30 Day Shred, aka Training For the Zombie Apocalypse

Another day at level 1.

Today we realized that one set of my weights is adjustable so I removed a weight off each end making the 4 lb weights, 2 lbs. I used the weights for each of the hand weight exercises. I felt it and feel the effects of it as I cool down now.

I just completed another level 1 workout. I used hand weights the entire time (for strength moves) again.

I'm starting to feel like muscles in my lower body are toning.

I've decided to use the myfitnesspal app that I've had on my phone for over a year. So far today I've tracked everything I've eaten and the workout. I do cook a lot so I'm not sure how I'll track all my meals. It seems like a lot of work to have to calculate & put in each meal. Does anyone else use the app?

How is everyone else doing?

I use the app...but not as consistently as I should in order for it to maximize the benefits.

Level 1 again.
I use my fitness pal. I put in 'homemade' with the description of what I ate, and it usually gives me some options.

At some point I want to start up Jillian again while I'm doing cardio. Tomorrows the 1st - I guess that'd be a good place to start.

Ugh.

Hey peeps!

Just checking in again. Jillian and I are still together, but we only see each other a couple of times a week. I've been alternating between Banish Fat Boost Metabolism and No More Trouble Zones. My other workouts are a mixture of circuit training DVDs, concentrating more on strength than cardio.

The good news is, that the weight is starting to drop again. I finally broke through the plateau I have been at for a couple of months and I'm confident that the rest of the weight will come off slowly but surely. Once I did a few tweaks to my routine, mainly eating MORE and exercising LESS the scale immediately began to move. I got tired of being hungry all the time and spending too much time working out or in sweaty gym clothes. Not something I'm interested in having to keep up with for the long haul.

I'm also on MFP.com a lot, logging food and exercise calories. It's a great tool to keep me accountable and on track.

Question for all: I would like ideas on what to rename this thread since a lot of us are doing other things besides Jillian Michaels workouts. I would like this thread to continue as a place for support, venting, and encouraging each other to reach our goals. So, throw out some ideas!

Working it out....?

Training for the zombie apocalypse ...?

Yesterday I ran a full 10 min on my first run set. Then I alternated walking, running and inclines.

It went:

5 min walk, increasing speed to 4.0
10 min run at 6.1 mph
3 min walk at 4.0
3 min walk at 4.0 MPH, 12.0 incline
3 min walk 4.0 MPH, no incline
5 min run at 6.1 MPH
5 walk at 4.0 mph
3 min walk at 4.0 MPH, 12.0 incline
5 min walk cool down.

I think that's about right. I totaled around 45 minutes.

Then, last night I ended up going for an interval walk/run for a mile with boyfriend

And TODAY

I ran a 12 minute mile!!

But then I didn't run again, Haha. After that I alternated walking and inclines.

I know I sound like an exercise monster. Sure I'm pretty proud of myself, but don't get too impressed yet. The trick is STICKING WITH IT.

I've been known to get into a routine and going full force, but clearly I end up stopping or else I wouldn't be in this position

I have no suggestions for a name

I'm impressed with your run iroc!

I just did another day at level 1. I'm definitely noticing a difference. My butt is no longer jiggling during jumping moves I am now able to follow Natalie for just about everything, but my upper body strength is still very weak, other than push-ups which don't seem to be a problem (Anita version). I'm staying on level 1 for now cause it's still pushing me.

LOL I kind of like Training For The Zombie Apocalypse! Keep the suggestions coming!

iroc - Great job on the running!

goldy - Great job on The Shred. The pushups weren't a problem for me either - I did a mixture of Anita and Natalie. It was those darn anterior raises which just killed my arms!

Today I did a circuit training workout - Strong Body Ageless Body by Erin O'Brien. It's a nice 45 minute workout with upper body, lower body, and mat/core work.

The scale dropped again this morning, another .6 pounds since Friday. New JCrew chino shorts that I bought only a couple of weeks ago are already too loose and I had to order a smaller size. Yay me!

Good gravy (yes, I just went there in an exercise thread!), y'all are all doing great!!

iroc, I almost passed out reading that, you are kicking treadmill ass. I ran for 2 minutes and 20 seconds last week. Of course it hasn't happened since, but I'll get there. I did the shred yesterday after not doing it at all last week (I did treadmill every day) and I was sore today, so that's good.

sc, I'm sooooo glad to hear you've found what works for you! Our bodies are so complex and it can certainly be a guessing game.

goldy, glad to hear you're noticing some improvements physically and endurance wise!

I'm not sure what's going on with me, but I've had problems with 'oomph' (as I like to call it) for several years now and after always thinking it was my thyroid medication not being quite right, I've realized it may not be. All my blood work has come back fine for the the last year, which is the first time in 10 years it's not fluctuated and I've come to realize maybe it's not why I feel so incredibly ishtty all. the. damn. time. So after years of denial and putting it off, I've made an appt. with a Dr. for tomorrow and I hope that puts me on the road to getting some answers with whatever is going on with me.

I definitely feel better than I did before I started exercising and lost 60 lbs, but I have such an intense lack of energy and have to push incredibly hard to even do the easiest of thing that there must be an answer out there somewhere. Surely I can't be destined to spend forever feeling like this. I have the 'want' to do things, but my energy always feels zapped no matter what I do. So y'all cross your fingers that I can find some answers after years of (stupidly) putting off seeing a Dr. and maybe I'll be running for a whole 3 minutes before we know it!

I'm kinda leaning toward the zombie apocalypse suggestion for a name because I really can't think of any other reason I'd EVER need to run.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
That's another vote for the Zombie Apocalypse idea! You guys better come up with some other ideas or I swear, I Will change it to that!!!

Springy - I hope you are able to get some answers. I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for you!

Haha,

Zombie apocalypse came when I was running my butt off, sweating and exhausted, thinking, wow, this will really pay off if I'm ever being chased by zombies!

I can't think of a better reason to need to get into shape, LOL

I need to stick w this BC I really feel like a sack of fat. And what's depressing is its mostly in my midsection, all upper body fat.

Spring, I've wondered if I have problems with my thyroid for some time now. The sad thing is, I haven't been to a doctor (other than my ob/gyn) in almost 9 years. I had a bad experience when I was pregnant for Bailey, and I've avoided going since.

iroc, aside from seeing an endocrinologist for my thyroid (and that was only because I had to so I could continue taking my daily medication so I don't keel over ) I haven't been to a family Dr. in over 10 years. I have no excuses. Well, I have lame excuses, but no good ones. I have insurance and know how lucky I am and I should have gone long ago. I know if we didn't move around and I was already established somewhere I would have gone, but figuring out where to start on finding a new Dr. each time we moved always overwhelmed me and I just put it off. Now I've got some annoying mess going on with my ears that has me a tad freaked out because it won't go away so I finally did it. Just did it and got it over with. And it wasn't nearly as painful to make a call and schedule that appt. as I thought.

It seems so many people have thyroid issues now, I often ponder what on earth we're ingesting now to make our endocrine system so out of whack. When I first got sick with mine (it was a severe case, I had no clue what was going on) I didn't know anyone with a thyroid problem. Now? Seems like I'm always coming across someone with it. So, it's definitely worth getting checked out! A lot of people do really well on medication for it and notice a marked improvement with how they feel.

So, go see a Dr.
Do as I say, not as I do and don't put it off! haha

I get so frustrated when I feel like something's wrong, but I get brushed off by doctors.

They all do it, I suppose.

That's 9.8 minutes per mile, right? Or am I calculating that incorrectly...if so, Opps that's embarrassing...lol

Maybe the new name can be some sort of "Curly Fitness Club" (we need a c-word for "fitness", I like alliteration) or "Training for the Zombie Apocalypse Club". Idk, some type of club/community/society/group

I did Level 1 of 30DS with my mommy today! She said I was trying to kill her! Lol. I know she was way proud of herself for sticking with it when it was over though.

It's funny how I don't even mind the push-ups in Level 1 anymore after suffering through the agony that is Level 2. Hehe. I know I need to just go through with Level 2 and move out of my comfort zone but I just don't think my motivation can take another hit right now and Level 2 was just sucking my spirit to get fit right out of me.
I started the 30DS on sat. I'm doing it every other day, because I'm totally out of shape and am quite sore the day after. When I feel up to it, I'll do level 1 everyday, then progress as I feel ready.

I have a 15 year old old knee injury that was actually caused by doing lunges incorrectly, and my knees are still weak, so I go easy on the squats and lunges. Be sure to stick your butt out, not bend your knees forward!!!

I'm game for any reference to zombies in the title

Now if only a zombie would come so I have some motivation to get up & workout right now.

Iroc & Springy, you both should look into maybe either a DO or naturopath. They both should approach the person in a more holistic way. A DO goes through formal residency like a MD if you prefer the credentials. I'm just throwing that out there if neither of you have visited either.

Ugh, I've been such a slacker after a reasonable start.

1. I hate exercising, so motivation is really hard for me. I don't get that "exercise high" and I don't ever remember having it when I danced. I just loved to dance, so it didn't feel like exercise.

2. My sleep schedule is all kinds of out of whack due to summer unemployment (I need to get back to school!)

3. I get so bored so easily!

Ok, so I have been going out a lot lately and I tend to only drink a beer or two (or none!) so I've been using the opportunity to dance my behind off at some great bands. Cardio right?! I can also feel it in my abs so that's a good thing. My BF and I went for a good walk the other day, and other than almost getting hit by a truck that hit the curb it was fun!

I'm going to start looking into some classes, because I think I stick with that better. There's a donations only yoga place near me that I'm gonna check out next week. I like it cuz I can put in what I can afford now, and put in more later when I have income.

I have been making slow, positive changes with my diet so that's been great and helping a lot.

You ladies keep me inspired! I'm now gonna go boogie around while I clean my kitchen and run to the post office!
