30 Day Shred, aka Training For the Zombie Apocalypse

Like Tree65Likes

I definitely sweat, and it was definitely a challenge, but I hated the moves of level 2.

I didn't set a goal. I've been having such a hard time trying to lose weight that I am just accepting that I need to do a daily routine of exercise. Regardless of whether my weight goes down or not.

.....although it would be nice!

You guys are so great!! It's encouraging to read about everyone's experience with the shred

I've been so out of it lately and finally popped the DVD in today, again. I was more motivated this time and took a lot less breaks. I have 31 days until my birthday and am contemplating whether I want to try to set a goal of completing 30 days straight before my birthday.

Lately I've been so tired, all day long. Today it dawned on me that it's likely my increased sugar intake and decreased exercise the past couple of months, that are contributing to me feeling this way. So I need to stick to a plan of more exercise and less refined sugar. I'm also going to try to throw in some naps (or quiet time) a few times a week to see if that helps.

Green jumper and iroc for the most part don't seem to be taking any rest days... Right? What about everyone else? It might be cool to make it a goal to complete 30 consecutive days before my birthday
Ah, it all makes sense now. Goldy is the puppet master!

I can see a slight bit of definition in my stomach area, which is nothing short of a miracle. I've always had a pudgy stomach, but I know there is muscle under there...somewhere. I modified a little bit today because my knee and leg are hurting from being on my feet on a concrete floor for so long last week while working on the garage. The only thing I changed was to run in place instead of the butt kicks.

My overall goal is to just do this a couple of times a week so I can have something quick yet challenging to help build up my endurance and switch up my exercise routine which was so stagnant.

goldy, I take every weekend as rest days because we're always doing something different and I guess it's a good excuse to put off exercise. Come Monday I'm right back at it though!

Do y'all take breaks for water at all? I have to pause it to sip a little bit, I just can't go that long without drinking something.

The amount of time from slipping on the peel and landing on the pavement is exactly one bananosecond.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
I was just thinking about the water thing today while shredding. I noticed that I didn't have any near by & that they (on the screen) didn't have any. So I figured I could go the 20 min without water. As long as I am hydrated before I begin & rehydrate once it's over

I do it straight through, no breaks. I don't want to lose momentum.

I finished the second day of Level 1. I'm feeling pretty good with it, so I might jump up to Level 2 early. My knees are bothering me a little on the lunges, but my strength and cardio feel all right.
Day 8 of Level 1 complete!!!

I've done the 30DS eight days in a row so far. My goal is to do 30 consecutive days and I plan on sticking with that if I can.

I try to be completely hydrated before I start the workout so that I don't need breaks in between for water. I always have some water on stand by for immediately after the workout though!

I don't take breaks but sometimes I have to stop and reset myself, especially during the lunges because I lose my balance a lot. I also do the push-ups a lot slower than the ladies in the video because my arms just can't handle it and I definitely would need to rest if I did them as quickly as they do.
I try so hard to keep my balance on the lunges and I always teeter totter. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

It does seem I am the only weenie who needs to pause for a second to get a sip of water.

Spring try drinking plenty of water the day before you exercise as well as early in the day before exercising and after exercising.

What size weights is everyone using?
The first few times I attempted the shred I didn't use any weight and felt results, but never did it long enough to really see results. This time I think I should use some weights. If I want to see real results in 30 days.

Heavens, I am sore today. Maybe I'm jumping the gun by talking about Level 2.

I use 5 lb weights for the shoulder press, bicep curls, and chest fly, but I absolutely cannot use those for the side lunge/shoulder raise exercise. I have a set of 3 lb that I use on that one.

I'm using 2lb weights, but like Sarah I could totally do the 5lb for everything BUT those side lunge/arm raise things. I'll have to get those out to switch it up.

goldy, I'm entirely too busy consuming coffee to be bothered drinking water before I workout.

Wow I feel silly thinking it's a workout without using any weight and you guys are talking about using 5 lb.

I have 5 lb weights but thought they were too heavy so I convinced myself it's plenty workout without any weights. I may be able to get my hands on some 2 lb weights to use. But maybe I'm just being a wuss and should go for it with the 5 lb weights.

I am happy to report that my back knee goes all the way down in lunges. I'd also like to report that they suck.

Jump lunges also suck.

My plan is to go through the whole set, and then start over again, doing high impact the next time. Cause I don't expect huge noticeable results in 30 days.

I started the shred on June 13.
I will hit 30 days on Friday. I'm not at all shredded. In fact, I only see a little bit of results. But I'm gonna keep at it.

I use 3 lb weights. I agree with everyone about being able to move to a heavier weight on all of the exercises except for the side lunges with shoulder raises. My arms are on fire by the end of that exercise!

One of my friends is starting 'Couch to 5K' next week and wants me to join her. It's a 3x per week program and would allow me to meet my goal of adding in extra cardio. I'm thinking about doing it. I'm not a runner by any means so it's kind of daunting but she assured me that the program is designed to work for people who are truly beginners.
