30 Day Shred, aka Training For the Zombie Apocalypse

I can't find the 2 lb weights and didn't even attempt to use the 5 lb weights. My arms burn without any weights

The only reason I know I can do the 5lb weights is because I already do exercises similar (the arms only) to some in the DVD. Today I did the lunge with the curl after my treadmill. We have mirrored closet doors in the workout room so I was trying to see if watching my form would help and I didn't teeter nearly as much!

I always see people mention using two canned goods in place of weights, but it seems they'd be hard to hold onto.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
Day 9 of Level 1 !!!

I'm let you know what I decide Spring1onu! I'm seriously considering it. It's just that once I start something I don't like to quit!
Oh Jillian, level 3 has brought me to such soreness that I'm cursing you again!

I really do want to stick it out and do it again today, but man my thighs are hurting.

I think I'll give it a shot but maybe leave out the jumps. I'll do some running or jumping jacks to replace them. We'll see how I handle it when it comes up.

Oh forget it. It was hot, I didn't have my AC on, I actually started it, got to circuit 2, and turned it off. First time I've done that. I just didn't have it in me.

Today I shall confess my sins to cleanse myself.

I didn't exercise at ALL today and I've been beating myself up over it. I never skip a day unless I've got something going on that keeps me from doing it and today I don't even have that excuse. I feel so horrible about it I'm pretty sure that will keep me from doing this again. I can't even explain why, but it's just such an off day for me all around, weird.

Last day of Level 1!!!!

Getting ready for Level 2 to kick my butt tomorrow!
Great job greenjumper!

I've got to get back in the saddle, here. I was looking at my stomach today and thought, hey, this really is improving!

I realized the other day I'm eating way too few calories, especially on workout days. But I still have Carb and sodium indulgences, not to mention the wine, so I'm not gonna focus on bringing those calories up.

In glad you're seeing results iroc!

Don't be so hard on yourself spring

Way to go green jumper - you're motivation

I missed yesterday. I'm not happy about it. I worked Wed night (all night) and only slept 2.5-3 hours Thurs morning and then drove 3.5 hours away. I didn't get my son to bed till after 9 and I didn't have it in me that late. My head was hurting & I was tired. But I'm so disappointed in myself I just put my son down to nap and I'm going to change for my 20 min of torture

Hi everyone! Glad to see some new folks joining us. Sorry for the absence, but life is weirdly busy lately.

I finished 30 Day Shred last Friday. I'm very glad I did it. I feel stronger and like I said earlier, definitely seeing changes to my body and the way my clothes are fitting. I'm still holding steady at a 2 lb. weight loss, though. Kind of a bummer.

I immediately started Ripped in 30 and just finished the first week today. It's a 30-day program divided into 4 1-week segments. I'm able to use 5 lb. weights for the entire workout, except for all of those damn anterior shoulder raises - those ones are still tough.

In other news, I am upping my calories even more and because of that will be avoiding the scale for an entire month. I really don't want to see the usual weight gain before my metabolism resets and I begin losing again. I have been spending more time on MyFitnessPal. If anyone reading this is also a member there, pm me and I'll give you my screenname. It's a great fitness resource and keeps me highly motivated.

As soon as some of you finish the Shred, I'll probably go ahead and change the title of this thread to include all Jillian Michaels workouts or something. Let me know what you all think.

Have a great weekend everybody!

My TV is broken I could only make it through about 2 minutes of Level 2 before it completely shut down. I hope I can get it fixed by tomorrow or else I'm going to get so far behind off my schedule!

There are actually other TVs in the house but there's not enough space to do any exercising in those rooms.

I was so excited to be moving on to Level 2....

I was really frustrated and bummed at first but then I decided to make the most of it by seeing what the 'Couch to 5K' was all about. I downloaded an App on my Ipod and it tells me when to walk and when to run. I can play my own music and a voice just pops on every couple of minutes. Pretty cool. I did Day 1 Week 1 at 3mph during the walking times and 6mph during the running times (just changing the numbers on the treadmill).

I choose 6mph because running at that speed for more than 1 minute was hard for me and the program is supposed to build you up from that one minute, so hopefully by the end I'll have enough ability to run that speed for 30 minutes.

I definitely need to work on my form, probably buy some running shoes, and just read up about running in general. I also kind of think that the treadmill is rough on my knees so I may try running outside...but it's so hot!

Not giving up on the 30DS though. I'm sticking it out with you guys until the end!
I find running on the treadmill to be easier than outside. No terrain, and the treadmill usually gives a little when you run. Pavement does not.

But I'm thinking about picking up a walk/run thing. Not full out running though. Intervals are good for speeding up the metabolism.

I havent done the shred in 2 days. I did some floor stuff yesterday. But those stupid jump things were too rough on my knees and my back.

Technically I've been on it for 30, but I do want to stay on level 3 longer.

Weird-- I was just coming here to start a thread about the 30 Day Shred / 30 Day Slimdown. Looks like someone beat me to it!

I started this one week ago and was pumped to get on the scale today. I worked my butt off this week and it really seems like I should have lost a ton of weight... Uh, no. Actually, I gained 0.2 pounds. Seriously? I'm incredibly disappointed. Did I not do this right? Jillian says you can lose up to 5 pounds in one week. I consistently ate well and even played tennis several days this week in addition to doing the workouts every day and working overtime this week (my job is fairly physically demanding).

Can someone help me explain this/make me feel better? I am so overweight right now and this totally bummed me out

First, 0.2 lbs is really nothing. It's a tiny fluctuation. That could be anything from have you had a "number 2" ? Did you drink something before you got on the scale? Did you have on a thicker set of clothes when you weighed? Does your scale have precision to the 0.2 lb? (For example, I work in a lab and our main scale has a precision to the 10mg...so if we weigh out something that reads 15mg...that part of the 5mg isn't actually precise and can't be counted as significant in a scientific study).

Second, since the 30DS has a ton of strength training you could have just built up muscle. 66% of the work out is strength. (Each circuit is 6 mins....3 minutes of arm and leg strength and 1 min of ab strength= 4 minutes. 4/6=66%) That's way more strength training than cardio so it's likely that you're building up muscle. No worries though, muscle burns more fat continuously throughout the day so it's better to have it in the long run. You'll also be really glad to have it in the your 60s and 70s

Third, are you paying attention to the calories you are taking in? I know whenever I work out, it gives me a greater appetite later on. Could you possibly be eating more to make up for your calories burned during the workout. Sometimes people don't realize how much they're really eating...(I know I sometimes don't)

Last, I'm a review junkie. Usually, I'll read a ton of reviews before I try something out. Most of the people who did the 30DS reported a loss of 3-5 lbs for the total month....not super impressive but still good. What was impressive were the amount of inches tha people lost and a significant increase in their fitness levels... Many people reported losing 10-25 inches in only 30 days ( from arms legs, waist, chest, etc). For example, Iroc just posted about progressing to touching her knees to the ground during the lunges, I don't think she started out doing that (I still don't, haha). Basically, I would make sure that the scale isn't the only way I'm evaluating my progress.

Stick with it, you will see results. Keep coming back and posting with us! Everyone here is really supportive and it's nice to go through the soreness and successes together.

I really want to get back to working out. I have the 30ds and I really want to get back at it. I'm just lazy. I can say though when I did use it I sweat a lot and felt a good burn. Maybe I'll start back doing it in combo with my Latin party pack dvds so I wont get bored

OMG, Level 2 is really hard! I was not prepared for this at all... Why didn't she make a level 1.5? Lol

I think Level 2 is exactly where I'm supposed to be though. Level one wasn't super easy but I was "comfortable" there (besides the push-ups). It was definitely a workout but it wasn't pushing me to the breaking point. I was really feeling the burn in Level 2 practically the whole time and I couldn't wait until it was over. I alternated between Natalie and Anita for intensity. I'm actually thinking about doing Level 2 for 20 days instead of moving onto Level 3 so quickly.

Sidenotes:
---Loved how Jillian caught Natalie cheating a couple of times!
---I was half afraid that Jillian's boobs were going to pop out of her sports bra during one of the cardio sections...geez she was jumping around so much!
--- I hated how Jillian was breathing all hard at some spots when she's mostly just standing around talking for half the DVD. If she's out of breath , how does she think I feel??? And if she was just acting (most likely, then that's kind of an insult)
---I still love Jillian though, she just kicked my butt today!
SilverCurls---- I forgot to answer your question earlier.

I think changing the title would be a great idea too. I bought another one of Jillian's videos ( Kickboxing Fast Fix) and I'd enjoy hearing how your "Ripped in 30" journey is going!
Level 2 day 2.
12th day of 30DS

Still alternating between Natalie and Anita.
Greenjumper, thank you for the encouragement. I'm in the healthcare field so I (should) know all this stuff, it's just hard when it's you! I did take measurements before I started, but it's so hard to get consistent measurements. Based on what I saw today, I lost a little on waist and hip measures, but I'm not convinced.

I guess I should have researched the video more thoroughly-- it would have made me feel better to know that the results are usually in inches lost, not weight lost.

I need to lose ~35 pounds total, so I guess I'm just being impatient with my progress.
