5k. . .

so, i just decided that i'm going to run a 5k. I'm not much of a runner, but there is chocolate at the end. :) It also happens to be on my birthday weekend. I've got 4 months to get ready for it. Any advice?

I'm currently not exercising at all, just decided to run it about 10 minutes ago. lol.

I'm doing "Couch to 5k" right now. It's a good program to get you started. I'd download the app for you ipod. You can listen to the app and music at the same time while you run.

Also you may want to get some good running shoes. :-)

any recommendations on the running shoes. I have fairly high arches.

I will definitely look into the couch to 5k thing. considering i had to get on the scale at the doctors office today. yikes.

Couch to 5k is a good place to start.

For running shoes, look for a local running store. Not a Dick's or Sports Authority type store, but a small store that specializes in running.

They will watch you run, analyze your gait, and get you in the right shoes. A store like this knows their stuff and actually cares that you are running comfortably. Some of them will even let you return shoes you have used and are unhappy with.

A good pair of shoes will likely run you $100, but will last 400-500 miles so they are a good investment.
