so, i just decided that i'm going to run a 5k. I'm not much of a runner, but there is chocolate at the end. It also happens to be on my birthday weekend. I've got 4 months to get ready for it. Any advice?
I'm currently not exercising at all, just decided to run it about 10 minutes ago. lol.

Poriosity is a mystery. I think its all over the place.
For running shoes, look for a local running store. Not a Dick's or Sports Authority type store, but a small store that specializes in running.
They will watch you run, analyze your gait, and get you in the right shoes. A store like this knows their stuff and actually cares that you are running comfortably. Some of them will even let you return shoes you have used and are unhappy with.
A good pair of shoes will likely run you $100, but will last 400-500 miles so they are a good investment.
