I want to get some Jillian Michael workout DVD's, but was wondering which would be the best to start with? I'm REALLY out of shape. I have practically no upper body strength. I can barely do 3 girl push ups. I don't need to lose weight, but I do need to get in shape, toned, and lose my tummy. I've never really worked out unless hour long walks every day, walking everywhere possible and occasional hiking/running count.

HELP!

Hmmm...ill do some research for you..I can tell you to pass on her 45mins dvds...they are like insanity type workouts...I consider myself in decent shape, and they kicked my butt. But her workouts are awesome!!! I'm currently using ripped in 30, and it was difficult at first. Then will advance to her 45mins dvds. Feeling great. Either way congrats to you for wanting to start. Thats the hardest part, JUST start doing something. Exercise can help dramatically improve 80% of depression; ) but remember 90% of you lifestyle is around what you eat. So just make sure you are feeding your mind and body great food

Thanks! I've got my diet under control, have for a while now due to health issues. I've been sticking to clean eating for the most part.

I just remembered I may have to wait a while to start it due to some knee/hip/back/neck pain. I've been having issues with knee/hip/lower back pain on my right side for a while and it's just gotten worse over the past few months. My Mom pointed out that I stand a bit crookedly and my right leg appears to be shorter than my left so even a lot of walking and I'm in pain. So I need to get that checked out and go from there. I still want to figure out what to start with and get what I need.

What about this one? It looks like a good one to start with, and then maybe progress to 30 Day Shred?

30 day shred! There are 3 levels: Beginner, Intermediate, & Expert. They are about 20-25 minutes. Each contain 3 intervals: Strength (3 m), Cardio (2 m), and Abs (1m). You repeat each set twice. She kicks butt, but you aren't working all day to achieve something that can be done with an expert like her!

**Also, if you don't want to buy it, YouTube has the beginner one for free! (Not too sure about Interm. and Exp.)

Yes that's the one I'd start with the beginner exercises. When I first started I had to do the beginner ones and I couldn't keep up with those even. But now I'm kicking butt. I keep wanting to continue so I can see how much more I can do this time around. So you push yourself. Maybe look into water aerobics or yoga at first

I'll start with the 30 Day Shred.
I've been wanting to do yoga, probably not a bad idea to start with that. I'm planning on joining a local gym that has a pool and tons of different classes, including yoga.

I absolutely love Jillian's 30 day shred! You really do get a little bit of everything with it and each level is a nice progression. I have some of her other ones and they're good too, but I always go back to the 30 day shred

I wish I hadn't put off starting working out for so long now. I'm extremely motivated to work out now and don't think I'll be making any excuses not to. I feel so much better afterwards.

I'm thin, but I've got a belly pooch (much like this girl has, but a bit more pronounced) and I have a feeling it's going to be tough to get rid of. I'm thin, but that belly pooch is so dang annoying and I feel like because I'm thin it sticks out even more and I'm really self conscious about it. I may be trying to cut out wheat because I think I may have a sensitivity to it.

Thanks for posting the link to that blog. So interesting about the fruit and bloat.

I already don't eat any wheat because I'm gluten free as I have celiac disease.

I do eat limited dairy, but even on the days I don't eat dairy I have a lower pooch and bloat.

I will try what she does and limit fruit. I eat a lot of fruit. This will force me to eat more veggies.

I've cut back on fruit, and try to only eat fruit in the morning on an empty stomach. I have to say that I do notice less bloat. It's so hard for me to resist fruit though. I love fruit.

Ah! Sorry for not posting anything for so long ya'll! This summer has been crazy for me and I was gone for over a month.

So I'm ashamed to admit that I started out great and was on a roll, but a week after I left to stay at my aunt and uncles I kinda let my workouts (and what I was eating) go. So I haven't really worked out in about 5 weeks. I've had plenty of activity (swimming, running, walking around ALL day etc.) but I haven't been working out at all.

I also haven't started trying to tweak my diet for various reasons, one of them partially because of money and probably can't for a while. I've been in a lot of pain due to TMJ problems and am pretty limited in what I can eat right now and I've just been completely exhausted emotionally, mentally and physically from stress.I have noticed that on days when I eat no or very little processed food (pasta etc.I still do consume dairy) I have a LOT less bloat/pooch so I KNOW that is something that will make a huge difference when I can stick with it.

I'm starting back tomorrow evening with Ripped in 30 starting back at Week 1! (I had already gone through week 3 when I stopped).
