Working Out in the Morning

Waking up and getting out of bed is a real struggle for me (due to Hypothyroidism). So, I've been thinking that if I set a schedule to workout in the morning it would help get me going.

I woke up this morning and did not want to workout. (My husband ordered Zumba Incredible Results for me and it came in this past weekend). I tried to get it going yesterday, but the DVD player wouldn't work. Well, the alarm goes off this morning. 15 minutes later and I'm still in bed.

Then, I hear some music coming from the living room. I run out there and my husband started my Zumba Cardio Dance DVD. That got me going! Really, Zumba in the morning is fun and energizing. I highly recommend it.
Im a morning person, so i am usually queueing up at the gym door when it opens at 6.30am! It really sets me up for the day, and the gym is alot quieter at 6.30am than pm too. I hate going in the evening, when im already knackered from work. The downside is i fall asleep on the sofa quite often and am in bed by 9pm!

I think it all depends on one's own rhythms, myself. There are those people who are all about the 7AM run, gym workout or yoga class, and there are those who can't face a workout until well into the afternoon. I'm in the latter group. Just that trying to work out at ALL in the morning is a REAL struggle for me. Even a 10-minute yoga sequence didn't feel right after getting up in the morning. Sure, people say that one can train oneself for AM workouts, but often they're the people who love them LOL! Just like the avid runners who say that "anyone" can run. For myself, I TRIED on any number of occasions to get something in in the morning, and I never acclimated whatsoever, even with keeping at it for several months. As for running, forget it for me - I'm NOT a runner. Lest anyone think I'm inactive or lazy, I'm not - it's ust that my sweet spot for feeling great working out is later in the afternoon - been like that for decades. I do the whole nine yards with weight training, cardio, Pilates mat classes, hoop dancing. Different strokes for different folks!
I like beginning my day with yoga but I get up at 430 during the work week just to make it work on time. I really can't see that becoming 330 to get in my Yoga in. Just can't do it.

I have a confession to make. I haven't done it again since the original post. I also get up at 4:30 am with my husband. I just can't get into it. Plus, I started doing CrossFit in the evenings. I sleep so sound after a class and really do not want to get up any earlier than I have to. Although, I felt really good after that one morning routine. Hmmm.
This thread could not have been more perfectly timed. I used to run/workout every morning but aftee I messed up my foot, I've been sedentary and I'm waiting for it to get to atleast mid August so I've had atleast six weeks of a break. I feel so gross and not like myself from being so lazy. I'm so tempted to just go for it right now because it's still cool outside. If you ladies don't mind, what time do you go to bed when you wake up so early? I've been sleeping at 8 or 9 to wake up at 5:30 but I've been messing up my sleep as well lol. I actually think working out tires me out so I sleep better.

My husband and I are in bed every evening by 9pm, as we both get up at 6am. He gets ready for work and leaves by 7, I go to the gym and to work afterwards. We are so used to this routine that we tend to keep to the same times over the weekend too (he works most Saturdays on overtime), certainly we never manage to stay up any later than 10pm on Saturday night!

I should add that I'm awful in the morning, it takes a long time for my brain to wake up, so I need the hour and a half so I can eat, drink coffee, shower and become nice before exposing myself to the world.

I try to go to bed by 830. I'm probably successful about getting there 1 night a week. I make it near every night before 9.

We try to be in bed by 9:00 pm. We haven't been too successful at it lately.
Wow - a lot of you go to bed REALLY early! An early night for me would be anytime before 11PM. But then again, I don't have to get up early to start a job early, or have a long commute before the job starts in the AM.
