Default Asparagus newbie here! Are they supposed to taste crunchy?

I have a diet plan that I'm on that requires me to eat asparagus. I microwaved it in the oven. It's tender, but sort of crunchy and it doesn't really taste good. Did I cook it right? Also, which is the best part to eat - tips, bottoms or the whole thing?

TIA!

overcooked asparagus is pretty gross and smells bad too. Tips and middle are best. Try to get smaller ones as it would be less woody. I like them stir fried with sesame oil, red pepper flakes & ginger or steamed with a tiny bit of fresh olive oil and fresh lemon zest.

and of course, there's asparagus soup. Very filling and very good. If you like broccoli soup, you should enjoy this.

Default Broiled Asparagus

I love asparagus. I cook a batch for dinner and and eat the leftovers for lunch. My favorite way to cook it is drizzled with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and add 1 crushed clove of garlic, and kosher salt and pepper to taste. Put in in a pan under the broiler for a couple of minutes, you'll need to stir them halfway through. Timing is tricky because it depends on how thick they are. I like mine on the crunchy side. They are good hot, or cold like this.
