The Edgar Cayce version of the diet is a little different because it allows fruit. Dr Robert O Young excludes them since most are so high in sugar. I just go by his book. It also has some recipes in it. I bought one of the recipe books too. Yes, you can do this for 2 weeks or even longer for a detox. I hope you are able to find the book and we can start this together. I agree we need to start another thread.

I think I'd be more interested in the Edgar Cayce version. I would modify it to use only low sugar fruits. I've done fruit detoxes in the past, and I found them very cleansing.

I'm ready to go on this. I can plan out my meals using the guidelines posted online, and I will read reviews of Cayce's book (I'm assuming he has one) on amazon and probably order it from there since I need to place an order soon anyway.

And, I see that eating ice cream is recommended over eating pastries and cakes? Wow! Why is that? That made my day--especially since I live in dairyland.

I'm going to be starting it on Monday

Interesting.

The Edgar Cayce diet looks like something I can handle and similar to what I eat (of course, when I'm not cheating with the pastry sweets).
Sorry, I missed this and was still posting to the Protein Powder thread.

I ordered my book thru Amazon.com. Dr Young's version is much more restrictive. He says to avoid any foods that are a product of fermentation which includes cheese and also that milk is mucoid-forming and it gums you up. The reason I'm doing his version is because fruit and dairy both upset my stomach. I bloat up. I want to get healthier, but I also want to lose weight. The big problem I have with it is breakfast. I don't have an appetite for vegetables in the morning. I can do the protein shake (I emailed him and he said it was allowed), but sometimes I don't have the time to make it. I have to leave my house by 5am each morning. I'm usually not hungry until around 7. I'll have to figure something out, because I really want to do this.

I've quit milk, switched to almond milk because it makes me bloat and my nose run. I do still have ice cream sometimes. I don't know if I can give that up totally. I stopped eating cheese around the same time I stopped having milk. I may stick with yogurt, but haven't had any in weeks. One option is to just buy acidophillus supps.

I will be avoiding all dairy during my detox.

I'm going to base my meals on oatmeal, fruits, veggies, shrimp, fish, chicken breast, rice, pistachios, almonds, almond miilk and whey.

I was reading some conflicting info at this site, and then happened to go to the foods lists. Interestingly, potato is listed as alkaline here:

I know. There is conflicting info on the food lists when you check online. I got frustrated so that is why I bought the book. I was reading last night and the 1st week, which is a detox, consists of juicing vegetables and drinking water with the powdered greens mixed in. There is also a "healing soup" recipe that can be used. That is really tough to follow when you are away from home and at work. I can't bring my juicer to work with me, so I'll have to have veg juice b4 I leave for work and then have it after I get home. I'll do the water and the soup while I'm at work. If you want to do the 7 day detox then here is the recipe for the healing soup. I don't think it's so important that we do the diet exactly alike. We can encourage each other and report our progress.

Healing Soup:
2-3 cloves garlic
1 large onion
1-2 Tbs fresh grated ginger
2 Tbs fresh cilantro
3 Tbs yeast-free vegetable broth
2-3 quarts water
1 cucumber
Real Salt to taste (I ordered this online)

Chop and crush garlic into small diced peices and lightlly steam-fry. Set aside. Put whole onion in water in a deep pan, simmer until onion is transparent (approx 1 hour). Add garlic and vegtable broth. Peel and slice cucumber and add to soup. Simmer 10-15 minutes. Add fresh ginger and cilantro and real salt to taste.

I'm leaving for my daughters house right now, so I'll check in when I get back this evening. Hopefully, there will be more people who will like to join in.

ETA: I'm going to juice together celery, spinach, and cabbage. I'm also taking a vitamin/mineral supplement, calcium/magnesium, and evening primrose.

I wasn't planning to do that type of detox, but I will look at doing a modified version of it for my week 1. Then do the other for week 2. Week 2 will be tough cos I just realized we have an employee appreciation day coming up that week!

I plan to take a multi, b-complex and calcium/magnesium since my period is coming.

Let me get back to you by tonight with more details.

Argh! Issues....

Well, a friend's family rented a place near pebble beach for a golfing vacation out here from monday. He wants me to drive down to play/hangout during the week or weekend. They're planning some BBQs.

I'm still with the detox plan, and will just have to get creative.

eta: I envy celebs with their less structured lifestyles that make these kinds of things easy to do.
I stayed at my daughter's house much later than I planned so I didn't have time to make the soup tonight. Instead of doing the soup, I'm just going to drink the vegetable broth. I bought cucumbers to snack on during the day also. I really hope I'll make the time to juice in the morning and juice when I get home tomorrow night.

I don't know how you're going to get thru a BBQ. That is tough. We need a month at a spa where they can serve all our meals and we can just relax with massages and herbal wraps.

I'll report in tomorrow night to let you know how I did.

I've finalized my daily plan for week 1:

I'm going to juice and/or eat raw for half of a day, then Edgar Cayce the rest of the day. I'm just not mentally prepared for a real juicing week.

Oh my! I could really use a massage right now

I will report in tomorrow night, too.
Day 1 out of the way. I did good. I juiced this morning before I left for work. I thought veggie juice at 5am would make me gag, but I did fine. When I got to work I had a cup of hot water with lemon then a cup of herbal decaf tea. I really wanted coffee! I had brought some sliced cucumbers to snack on, but they tasted lousy. I ate 2 and threw the rest away. This made my morning difficult. By 10am I wanted a hamburger and fries. I drank a lot of water with the greens powdered and munched on crushed ice. For lunch I had a salad with EVOO and lemon juice and a cup of veggie broth. More water throughout the day. I juiced when I came home. I decided since I can't juice while I'm at work, I will eat the raw veggies. When I got tempted to cheat, I thought of having to face you tonight and it kept me on the right track. How did your day go?

Day 1:

Well, I wasn't perfect

I drank a good amount of water, ate fruit (grapes and strawberries) and drank juiced fruit until noon.

At noon I had a vermicelli, veggies and shrimp combo (only light seasoning) that I took from home. And then later snacked on almonds and baby carrots. I did have dairy - a small yogurt

When I got home, I had a salad with EVOO + vinegar, then more fruit (apple and grapes).

The unexpected part is, I spent a lot of today in the bathroom. I didn't expect that because other than the amount of fruit I had, it's pretty similar to my typical diet. Was that the case with you, too?

I'm planning to do the same again tomorrow, but no yogurt.

Day 2:

Did better today.

I had the exact same foods (on sunday I made enough for 3 days), but instead of almonds, I had walnuts and pistachios. No yogurt. Not enough water.
Day 2:

Morning
Hot Raspberry Herbal Tea w/Stevia Plus
Edamame

Lunch
Salad w/EVOO & Lemon

Dinner
Veggetable Juice
Celery

I drank a lot of water with the powdered greens.

I was very stressed at work today due to my workload, etc and would have loved a brownie, but I was good.

Are your salads just mixed greens?
My salads consist of greens plus tomatoes, cucumbers, celery, green peppers, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower.

Day 3

Morning
I felt weak and dizzy when I got up. I juiced before I went to work
Drank my raspberry herbal tea with stevia plus and felt better. Started drinking my water with the greens powder mixed in.

Lunch
Totally screwed up. I had a lot of frustration with a coworker and I ate a hamburger and french fries and had 2 candy bars.

Dinner
Nothing. I've done enough damage for one day.

Tomorrow's another day and I hope to get back on the right track.

Just my five cents. This subject is fascinating, hope you like this link. http://www.euroamericanhealth.com/treat.html
