I did 3 one hour classes this week and my crunch challenge crunches every day.
I also need to brag about my last Fitness Challenge. The banquet was last night. I got a 1st prize and 3rd prize and my team got a 1st prize. I also got an award for being the most helpful to others doing the challenge. : )

Today I almost didn't go to the gym ... I went last night with my husband and had a good workout and this morning I just did not want to go ... but I forced myself. I did the bike today, which actually didn't feel as hard as the other machines I was doing so if I want a challenge I will have to do something else. I even tried upping the resistance too.

Going in the morning is hard for me because one of my medications makes it really hard for me to wake up. I might see if I can start to get off it ...

But anyway ... so far I'm plugging along!

I haven't worked out voluntarily since about 2008 and that only lasted a few weeks. This year I joined a gym because my weight gain has gotten out of control to the point that I'm embarrassed to even be seen in public :-/ and I avoid looking at myself in the mirror. I'm starting out slow. I started with half hour on the elliptical then i moved up to 45 minutes and upped the resistance and incline a little. Today I was able to go for 53 minutes and on the highest incline i've done so far (it's low in general but higher than what i started with lol). So I was proud of myself for that. I honestly don't expect to see much of a result in terms of weight loss but I hope it helps my mood (i've had depression since i was 12) and my sleep

Is anybody still doing this? New Year's resolution time ... I really need to start going to the gym. Step one will be signing up. Then I NEED to start being active.

I am not motivated. I hate exercise!!!! But i want to be healthy and I know my muscle pain is much better when I am active.

Anybody have similar new years resolutions and want to keep each other motivated?

I still don't like it but I'm forcing myself to go for the sake of my health. I am proud to see that I've already upped my tolerance a little after just one week though I had to sign up for a year so that in itself will force me to go lol

^ Good job starting and keep it up!
Given the choice, I would surely rather sit on the couch and watch tv but I think we all have to move. I love to walk but don't always have the time and the weather isn't always decent so I found classes at the gym that I enjoy so I go regularly. I think we all have to find something we at least like even if we don't love it.

it's not exactly finding something i like but one motivation i have for going is that they have tvs on the machines. I only have netflix now since I am living off of school loans so when I'm at the gym I love being able to watch tv again lol. I've missed it so much Today I was watching one of the Transformers movies and I think it's one reason I was able to work out for so long. I got really into it since I love those movies I would have kept going til the end of the movie but my body wasn't having it

^ Hey whatever it takes. I don't have cable either so I enjoy watching HGTV shows while I'm on the bike. : )

I'm soooo into lifting weights now! I truly love it! It's unbelievable the results I already feel. Even after only 2 weeks of (heavy) lifting I was able to feel these new muscles in my stomach that I've never ever had before. I don't even know what they're called! You can't see them but I can feel them and it's pretty awesome. My butt also does look a little lifted, it's super subtle but I'm impressed I can even see any change in my body considering I started not too long ago. I'm just really surprised the results are so fast.... had I known that I probably would have started years ago.

I'm squatting up to 90lb and benching up to 50lb, which is pretty good, I think, at least for a beginner.

A lot of women tend to avoid heavy lifting but I couldn't recommend it more.

This is SO HARD!!!

I had a really exhausting day at work today. I work on the psych floor of a hospital. It was very busy and we were short-staffed. I had a splitting headache and didn't sleep much last night and just wanted to go home and nap.

BUT!!! I didn't. I drove myself to the gym like it was just part of my schedule and wasn't an option.

Last week I did 4 days/week. So far this week I have gone 5 days (M-F). That was my goal, so if I do more than that that's just icing on the cake.

I am working tomorrow so we'll see how I feel after, but if I can I will go.

I want to start weight-training, but I don't know how. Any advice?

what i try to do on each day is work antagonistic muscle groups each time. so for example, if i do bicep curls, i will also work the triceps and do tricep extensions or something.

on upper body days i do: biceps, triceps, lat pulldowns or pullups, push ups (chest press is another alternative), and bent over rows, followed by core stuff. i also do some shoulder, rotator cuff, forearm, and grip strength type things.

for lower body, i do: lunges, squats, leg extensions, hamstring curls, deadlifts, and then i use the leg press to work my calves.

this website has some decent training schedule examples and were really helpful in getting me started!

and it's good for you to lift heavy weights. i mean, work up to it, of course, but you can definitely lift more than the little weights. and you should!

hope that helps!

My upper body is hopeless. I'm not flabby because my arms are naturally skinny but I have no muscle tone. I really should work on that.

On the plus side I'm continuing power walking and have been really good about that. Yea me! (and all of you - go curlies!)

I skipped the gym the last few days but finally made it today. I was able to do an hour on the elliptical and on a higher incline than last time with the help of the judge Mathis show to distract me

Ive been going to the gym five times a week, at least 30 mins cardio and starting weights. At the doctor today I had gained 5 lbs! She wasn't concerned bc my clothes fit the same and feel good, but I am a bit disappointed.

Maybe you gained muscle. That can cause the scale to go higher, but it's healthy weight.

I'm continuing to exercise after I read all the benefits including a reduced risk of breast cancer.

I'm really proud of myself for doing this - hugs to me and all of you!
