Ive been going to the gym five times a week, at least 30 mins cardio and starting weights. At the doctor today I had gained 5 lbs! She wasn't concerned bc my clothes fit the same and feel good, but I am a bit disappointed.

I think it was jeepcurlygurl that posted the link to that challenge page? I've been doing the plank challenge, and have gotten up to 2 minutes and 30 seconds, woohoo! That is hard! I have one more day there, then move up to 3 minutes.

My boyfriend's friend is a personal trainer and has given us a free lesson. We've been doing a lot of those exercises together at home and at the gym, and it's working well and getting me stronger. I don't think my core has ever been this strong in my life. Very good thing for my back. I've also been walking on the treadmill. I started the Couch to 5K program, but I don't feel like I'm physically able to do it consistently yet, it kills my shins. Maybe in the summer when I can get outside and don't have to put myself at a certain speed.

2b/2c wavy/whirley hair, usually out of control.
High porosity, fine texture.
Just started this journey to natural curly territory, so I have no "regular" routine yet.
I found out I was "gaining" weight because my scale was broken!!! I've actually lost 7 lbs since beginning of Jan... Woohoo! That was a nice surprise

Id' believe more that the weight gain is water retention within the muscles from the newfound stress put on them. Unless the gain happened over the span of months.

Oh man. I was doing really well making it to the gym 5 days a week. Then I got sick this week and missed four days in a row!

Today I finally felt up to going back and it kicked my a$$!!!! Geeze. Back again tomorrow.

If I only went to the gym 2 or 3 days a week, is it worth it to still go at all? When I go it's for an hour of cardio

You should try and do some weights or other resistance exercises when there as well but the thing is to start going.
I'm starting a 28 day challenge (daily yoga+6 day of pilates/wk) today. I've loved yoga's benefits, and pilates is something easy I can do at home during these cold months. Hoping after almost a year off fitness my knee will be in better condition, as I injured it Oct 2012 during soccer and therapy didn't really help. Maybe if this challenge goes well I can start running again as it warms up.

You can also gain muscle without losing fat, and in turn you'll gain weight and probably inches.

Thanks, that's a good way of putting it. I wasn't overweight before but wanted to be healthy. But being only 5'1" when I see the numbers go up on the scale I get nervous. It only takes a few pounds on a shorty like me to be visible. I think I am probably just gaining muscle faster than losing fat.

Today my legs hurt soooo badly from finally get back yesterday. I am off again, and I'll do my arms this time instead of my legs. I do enjoy weight training but there are always people who try to chat with me and I just want to do my thing and go. When I am sweating, I'm not in the mood.

Definitely possible. Additionally, a few pounds can just be water weight or hormonal fluctuations too. It could also be from fluid for your muscles. Myfitnesspal.com has some good information on this, most notably here.

I personally don't find weighing ones self to be an accurate reflection of the work done (my family doesn't even own a scale). When trying to lose/gain weight, progress pictures can be immensely helpful. Most of all, I find that how you feel is one of the best measuring tools. I'm always in more consistently better moods when I workout, or working out can lift me outta a bad mood - if I bother to get up and just do it.

I didn't do so hot myself. I actually, I did none at all. I quit my 2nd job of only a month and a half, so planning to get back on the workout wagon since I have my time back. I miss it.

Oh man I've definitely fell off the boat. During breaks it's SO EASY to work out regularly and cook and eat healthfully, once the chaos of school begins it all goes downhill.

But I signed up with this new gym (yay!) that opened up super close and I'm SUPER motivated to get back on track. I'm still lifting heavy, hoping to make it more than 3x a week this time, more like 4 or 5, and if I'm very motivated, go in the early AM to do a bit of cardio just to get the blood pumping before each day begins.

fine - normal porosity*?- medium density - normal elasticity. Hard water. SoCal.
*Used to be low-porosity, but I lightened my hair 1-2 shades, so I may be normal-porosity now.

Wavy, I can so relate. We have been in the deep freeze here and it was very hard for me to motivate myself. Without going into it, it was difficult for me to exercise either indoors or out. I wasn't hopeless, but I did much less than normally.

Happily, we are now at better temperatures and I have no excuse! Up and at 'em.
2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
For April I worked out 15 days for a total of 14 hours. I've also started to do at least one 10 minute ab video most every day.
