I'll be running with you in the am Wild, though dh just came in and said that he already sees frost outside (it's 9pm Friday). I'm so going to have to work hard at kicking my ass out the door tomorrow in the cold.
I'll be looking for your report Wild, I'm holding you accountable for my accountability too

lol Wile, that's about it.
it was 28 feels like 16 (16mph wind, 21mph gusts and boy where they cold as hell!) when I headed out for my run. I almost talked myself out of it, but kicked my butt out the door and did 8mi.

I'm sort of anti watch/garmin. though I've tried convincing myself on several occasions that I should get one. I prefer to just run however feels good for me than focusing on speed/pace led by a watch. kwim? For distance, I use either mapmyrun.com or gmapspedometer/ walkjogrun.net http://www.walkjogrun.net/
It works best for street runs or bike/walk paths that you are familiar with since it doesn't zoom in super close under hybrid or satellite image.
I'm so cracking a bottle of wine tonight!

blech! just opened up a bottle of vino and it was icky. bummer, looks like ice cream will have to do
I don't necessarily time my runs unless I have to or plan on working on speed. In that case, I'll do the treadmill or just carry a watch, cell phone or ipod with me or glance at the clock on the way out. I'm way informal about my running
So, whatchya drinkin? straight up?

Hey ladies — I made it out for my run today. Man, you weren't kidding, mamacurl, about the weather. I had forgotten that I needed to take my mom and aunt to the airport this morning, so my day got off to a weird start and I ended up running mid-afternoon. It felt ok, not great but ok. The part that sucked was when I was walking/cooling down and I was all sweaty and then it was c-o-l-d too. That part sucked.
I need to invest in some better cold weather running gear. I have really decent wicking pieces for my yoga/running/biking, but not many layering options for this truly cold weather.
Mamacurl, do you run in the winter and if so, any tips for a fellow Minnesotan? I was born and raised too, but you'd never know it. I'm such a wuss!
I too am having some wine! Gotta love the botabox.

mc...vodka w/ diet crush is what I have lately.
I do like my vodka w/ cranberry...that is my traditional X-mas drink
I have also used Fresca when I wanted to go back in time to Jamaica mon for my Ting-a-ling
w~h..what do you use to keep up w/ your time? I like to listen to music, but don't like to stress about keeping up w/ the time...does that make sense? The music helps to keep me distracted...

I use this app for my iPhone. It lets you play your own music and then overlays the cues [when to walk, when to run, "you're halfway done!"] over the music.

Ok, I was wondering if there was something else I could do since I was at 25 min straight at this point?! I dunno
I might just get a countdown timer..not sure
tia
btw...I had itunes, but lost all my stuff when my hard drive crashed last mo...urgh. I've since gotten back all my docs, bookmarks, etc off my hard drive & recreated a lot of stuff, but haven't gone into the itunes territory yet
I have everything on my ipod, though. Do you know what will happen when I install itunes again? ack!
Hubby says that I need to reinstall like new, that even tho we got a bunch of stuff off my old hard drive, he said something to the effect we couldn't use it?!
And some computer speak, which I have no clue! lol

ah snow!
Wild, I'm still trying to figure out the best kind of running wear in the winter. Last year was the first winter I ran outside, and I just piled on layers of what I had for workout wear. I think I'm going to invest in some good moisture wicking pants and shirts, some good light weight but warm gloves and thick warm socks. I always wear a winter hat to keep my ears warm, my hands to get warm fast though in the really cold stuff, even my big puffin down mittens don't keep my hands warm. I think that some water/wind proof gloves are better. Moisture wicking because you'll sweat, and like you experienced the other day, you get wet and wet soggy clothes get cold! Here's a link to a runners world article on what to wear, just plug in the temp and weather conditions to get some ideas http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/what...erence=2&x=&y=
other things I learned: watch your hands (esp with gloves that aren't keeping your hands warm), I tend to clench my fists more to keep my hands warm (thus wanting to get better, thinsulate perhaps, gloves). I've gone out on long runs and come home and wasn't able to feel my arms for an hour because I'd clenched my fists the whole time LOL)
a running buddy helps keep you motivated when it's so cold!
for some inspiration, think of the folks up on Alaska who run into under 0 weather, when we're hitting single digits and your motivation is shot!
I tend to run without music/books (audio) in the summer however I'm finding that my audio books are motivating me to get out there in the cold.
chapstick or vaseline for your lips!
slow your pace and watch your footing, some use yak trax (to put on the bottom of their running shoes for better grip) http://www.yaktrax.com/ I never did, just made sure to watch where I was running, watch for ice, slow my pace and run on the snow/grass when the path was icy.
Maybe we can keep each other motivated with our accountability thread I started up thyroid meds in April and my thyroid and meds make me SO cold I'm really dreading this winter so could use some accountability
Wile, have you ever had Jeremia Tweed Sweet Tea Vodka? Yum! Mixed with a little water and lemonade.

MIA has returned
I've been MIA again. You gals have been chatty. I was gone over the weekend. I did a fair amount of walking, but that was it. Now that I've finished my Insanity rotation, I feel like I've been a slug. Oh well, we'll call it a "recovery" week.
It's great to hear both our WileE and Wild are smashing the C25K and Mama is still running circles around us.
Trenell, Enjoy P90X. I did a rotation of that a couple years ago. It's a good program.

Wile, I'm happy to help if you do decide to go for a half. Or even start with a 10k (6.2mi), then work up to a half. Running in a race is so motivating and inspiring, so much fun! I'm really proud of you at how far you've come over the last few mos!
Hi FT, enjoy your "recovery" week. Recovery is important
nothing to report yet, starting a cold hoping it stays in my head. was up throughout the night with older dd's tummy ache and ultimately puking on my bed so that didn't help keep the cold away I'm sure. going to zumba tonight, can't wait!
