mc..do you think I'd be ready to do a 10k in March, 2010 or am I totally outta my mind here!?
Time is 24 min/mile...oy!
Code:
will post more later...
Uggg, Bad running day for me. I only got in 1.3 miles at a running pace. I decided to run this afternoon since I only worked a half day. My legs were still stiff from the plyometric moves I did yesterday. Note to self, don't do plyometrics the day before you try to run. Oh well, Friday's another day.

Mama, I crossing my fingers you can get in your workout.

Wild, I'll have to check out the podcast for the C25K. Do they have different types of music to pick from. I'm kinda picky.

runner, enjoy your 5K on Friday.

WileE, I'm sure you can be ready for a 10K in March. Just remember if you think you can't than you probably can't, and typically the opposite it also true.

Everyone have a terrific Tday.

The way I do it now, the music is from my own iTunes library, which is ideal, imo.

The podcasts I referred to earlier, the ones that don't work for me, are the ones from radio shows and the like. I need actual music to run well.

I do know there are other music-based C25K podcasts, though. And there are also ways, I believe, of taking a set of cues and combining them with your own playlist in a C25K podcast you sort of make yourself.

My plan is to run before Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, but I am going to play it by ear. I did the entire ashtanga practice for the first time in months today and sometimes you can feel quite sluggish the next day, with overall aches and very low energy. Right now I feel fine, though.

Keep it going everyone!

got my 5min in this afternoon, felt great! didn't even have to "bribe" dh LOL
hoping to get in a quick 3mi tomorrow am with the kids before heading to Nana's, zumba again Fri and the 12mi Gravy Train group run Sat morning since the kids will be staying at the ils. Though I'm feeling awfully nauseous this evening, hoping it's just the overload of movie theater popcorn from this afternoon and not my turn at h1n1.

Wile, you can TOTALLY do it woman! No problem, just work on distance..if you keep yourself paced, you'll be able to reach new mileage. So excited for you!
How far away is your 5k now? I've got a 5k on Jan 1, the Resolution Run. I've actually never run a 5k before, so it'll be my first

mc...that sounds like boot camp, not running a race lol TY! I hope so! Like FTFE said about this new one in March, if I think I can do it, I can!
lol @ bribing hubby!
Your 5k is before mine. Mine is 1/17...you'll finish that sucker fast!

FTFE...I won't be going down there before. It's all downtown & pretty flat areas from what I remember. I do have my tunes on when I run, tho they don't want you to when you run.

ms...I feel that way, too...I like to do my own thang & not into keeping up w/ others. We shall see how my first real run goes...

w~h...what worked for me was pushing myself a bit, but know my limits, ya know? You can do it!
Wile, I hope so. Who knows what the weather will do, I may have to snowshoe may way across the race...it is a race in Jan in MN afterall

Did my run today! Boy am I dedicated or what? Or nuts? lol
I was a bit sluggish...I def feasted yesterday

mc...I don't know how you live up North..yikes!
How do I improve if I can only run 3 days a week? I have been trying to figure this out from stuff from the Internet, but that stuff is all confusing to me! I have lotsa resources, but still don't get it...

Of course our Jan weather for the 5k is supposed to be in the 40s...
Wile, I too only run 3 days a week. I do two "shorter" runs to work on speed (usually around 5mi, though they range from 5-7mi during my training season) and one long run. That's where you are going to build your distance, take them slow and add about 10% of your mileage to your long run each week.
In your case, I'd try the same and maybe start with a long run of 3mi (since your runs are short of that). With the 30min runs you do, try to increase your speed via either intervals (I don't use gadgets like garmins, watches etc), I just run fast for a half a mile or so and then slower for a half a mile. Or you could use your music, run fast for a song, slow for a song, fast for a song, slow..etc. Alternating your speeds from fast to slow. Eventually, you'll stretch out your fast intervals and shorten your slows to maybe 2-3 fast, 1 slow..
You can do this for your two shorter days and just keep your comfortable pace for your long run and just add maybe .25 of a mile each week to get to a desired distance (10k).
That's my non expert advise Give it a shot and see how it feels, you can always modify it to suit your needs. I'd also try getting in an extra day of cross training if you can.

got my 1hr of booty shakin..er zumba today. good exercise. of course voided that one out with the slice of guinness cheesecake I had after work tonight.
hitting up the local track clubs 12mi gravy train run tomorrow am, looking forward to that...though not the cold. Burr!! Wile, you and me both. No clue how I survive up here, but I do each year. lol

Okay, I was running on a trail today and about 1/2 mile into it I am hearing a lot of noise just off the trail in the grass. I had a close encounter with a bear back in April so I got nervous, but then I thought it would be unlikely to see a bear this close to town at this time of year. So I thought it was either a rabbit, or some smaller animal just making a bunch of noise.

As I'm heading back to my car in the same area I heard the noise guess what is right in the middle of the trail? A LEG. A deer leg. A deer leg stump. Eeeeeew! No body, no drag marks, and no blood. I'm thinking it was a mountain lion and it just dropped the leg because it was startled or something. Kind of creepy!

Still, I got 4 miles in at tempo pace, and it was 55 degrees and sunny! Other than the amputated appendage it was a great run. I'm feeling sore, but the good kind of sore!

good gawd Chicki, you are runnin in a whole nuther world out there. I couldn't imagine dealing with mountain lions and bears and deer bits all over the trail on a run. Do you carry any special equipment with you to scare the lions and tigers and bears away? Yikes!
Nice job getting the run in though!

off to my 12mi gravy train run, it's going to be chchchilly.

g/l mc! Let us know how it goes
ty for the tips! I like the idea of running faster w/ a faster song & slower w/ a slower one

rc...reminds me of the epi I saw last nite on CSI: Miami. I would be breaking out my gun at that point! Or make sure I have it, at least...wow...
Good Morning All,
Had a pretty good run. I was .07 miles short of my 2.25 Miles in 28 minutes, so that wasn't too bad. Since I only got two GOOD runs (for me) this week and I know I'll only get two runs in next week, I'm going to repeat week 8. My goal for the end of the next week will be 2.4 miles in 28 minutes. I'd like to finish the program at 2.65 in 30 minutes if possible. I'm setting my goal just a touch over what I think I can do, so we'll see what happens. It's something to shoot for anyway.

I don't know how all you gals can run out in the cold, race or no race. It was 69 degrees in my basement this morning: all nice and comfy.

Anyone get snow this past weekend? We did. It stuck to the grass and trees but not the roads or driveways. The best kind of snow. It's all gone now, but it was pretty while it lasted. It was our first measurable snowfall.

runner, bears, severed deer legs, yikes. I hope you do have something to scare off animals when you run. I wouldn't even know what would work.

Wild, How's running in the dome working out for you?
I currently make my own playlist for music too. I just pick songs from my library that I like. I don't even know the BPM of them.

WileE, Do they discourage you from listening to music, or do they ban it for the race. I would see why they might ban it. Too many people listening to music and not being able to hear during a race could cause unnecessary injury.

Mama, Stay warm during your gravy train run.

Boy, I was chatty(er) today.

FT, it looks like you are doing really well with the program!! I think that your goals are definitely attainable! Go get 'em Running in the cold definitely takes getting used to, having a running buddy sure helps me get out the door and my audio books of course. I find it just as hard to adjust to running in the heat though too. However, as much as I dread running on the treadmill day in and day out, esp anything over 7miles, it's worth it to me to get my butt out in the cold to do my run. I always end up warming up out there anyway.

FTFE...it's just mostly for races...

So, do y'all think it's worse or better or either when running on a treadmill? I've gotten used to running in the a/c..otherwise, I end up running at nite, which isn't the best thing...don't tell my dear mother!
I think that better/worse in regards to tm running is relative. Obviously if it's your only chance to get a run in, then it's better than nothing and it's suggested that you put the incline at .5-1.0 to simulate outdoor running. I keep it at .5 at most, though sometimes forget to even set the incline.
I think that it's best to get a good mix of both tm running and outdoor running, you'll notice your footing is a little different outdoors...dependent on the terrain (pavement, trails, gravel, grass, track etc). I find that if I run a lot on the tm and not at all outside for a period of time..months, I am a little sore for the first week or so out outdoor running as my muscles get used to running on different ground.

It was a great run, it was a fun run though not a race. Great group of runners out there, I'd say probably 30 runners? It was cold out but it felt great once I warmed up a mile in or so. Thanks for asking FT

FTFE, I haven't done any Dome running yet. The weather has been cooperating so far. I will likely be doing it this week, though, because it's supposed to be cold.

It's tricky because one of the things I like about running [and yoga, and biking] is you can do it pretty much anytime. However Dome running is only Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-8 pm. We'll see how I do with a schedule.

I did W9D1 on Thanksgiving day, and the ashtanga primary series yesterday and today.

Good Morning,
I woke up late this morning. I wound up doing just a 20 minute 1.55 mile interval run. Not as much as I wanted, but better then nothing.

Wild, I'm glad to hear the weather has been good to you.

What kind of weather keeps you outdoor runners inside (besides the obvious icy conditions)? I'm sure it will vary from person to person, but I'm curious what your limits are. I'm sure I'll be a fair weather runner (50-68 when/if I decide to try outdoor running.

WileE, What time in the morning does your run start this January? Do you have a morning schedule planned or eating routine setup for the day before? What do those of you who race usually do?

FTFE - if I am not in training for a big race, bad icy conditions will keep me indoors. I tend to break bones if I fall. Cold temps are not an issue for me because I have the proper clothing to handle anything (of course, if it were ridiculously cold like below zero I'd probably stay inside because it starts to become a safety issue).

If I am in training and cannot miss the workout, the only thing that will keep me indoors is a snowstorm or really deep snow or dangerously low temps. Can't really do anything in those conditions no matter how hard you try! If it is just patches of ice here and there I have screw shoes that give me traction.

But if it is just cold outside all it takes is the right clothing. I prefer to run in cold weather over hot weather anyway. I don't have to carry water with me unless I'm going out for more than 90 minutes. Awesome!
