got in 30min on the stationary bike and 1hr belly dance today. felt good

FT, I'm with Chicki on this one. I run down into the single digits. I've been known to run through a few inches of freshly fallen snow, it's actually not that bed..adds some extra cushioning to your run. I'll run in snow, light sleet, drizzle, or rain so long as it isnt' storming.

Chicki, I'm looking to invest in some good cold weather running gear since I usually just layer up. Got any suggestions on good staples to have?

  2. Under Armour or Nike underwear (you have to have technical fabric on under tights IMO)
  3. Thorlo socks
  4. Fleece vest for colder days (wear over the mock-T). Keeps your core warm but you won't get as hot as if you had a full jacket.
  5. Wind/waterproof jacket for if it is snowing or very windy (I have one that adds no extra warmth...it just weatherproofs me...great if you are running long and the weather could be dicey).
  6. 180's convertible gloves
  7. 180's ear warmers
  8. DriFit headband that will cover my ears
  9. Beanie or skullcap for colder days
  10. Neck gaiter. I have one that I can pull up over my nose and mouth when needed (lifesaver). This really makes a difference in your comfort. If you don't have one...get one!
  11. I have a full-face ski type mask, but I hardly ever wear it because if it is that cold outside ...it can wait till another day. Still just knowing I have it makes me feel better.
  12. Aquaphor ointment. Slather it on before going out to keep my face and my lips from getting chapped or windburn.
The stuff in bold is what I really can't do without if it is really cold. You may have a lot of this stuff already, but if not it's all worth the investment. For winter gear I prefer Under Armour or Nike for clothing, and Thorlo socks are the best.

As far as a workout...today I did nothing! No reason...just didn't feel like it. I'm officially in training again starting next week so I figured what the heck, might as well be lazy while I can.

Brrr. You ladies are making me cold. I think I'd be willing to try down to the 30's, but I suppose it just takes getting used to. I do know the right gear would be critical. I do snowmobile in sub zero weather, but it's easy to wear warm cloths without the worry about sweating, getting wet and then freezing once your wet.

Nothing for me till Friday again , but you gals are doing great.

5mi run with dd in jogger, it was really cold running into the wind and it wasn't even that cold 30 degrees or so. I definitely need to get some better cold weather running gear.

I ran today too, mama, and it was cold. Colder than I thought it would be.

I need to get my butt to the Dome for running because I can't really drop the cha-ching on all that lovely running gear at this time, but I'm sure it's marvelous stuff.

Uhhh... I stayed in today. Again. Today I just didn't feel good though. Headache. Makes me feel pukey.

MC- I order some stuff online (in the summer I wear running skirts and online has the best deals). But I try to support my local running stores as much as possible. I'm a club member here so I get a discount and that helps. But the service and help I get is so good that I'd still shop there even if I didn't have a discount.

Hopefully I'll have a workout to report tomorrow. This is turning out to be a sucky week in my running log....

I need to start exercising again. I know I cannot do anything that involves moving my left arm much, but I feel so antsy just sitting around at home all day. I'd love to be able to go outside for a walk or something, but it is much below freezing these days and will stay that way until around April (or even some years into May) - I don't handle cold weather well at all. I thought about splurging and buying a treadmill or even a stationary bike, but the only place to put it is in the garage, which can at times be even colder than outside is. Maybe I need to buy myself a dvd for cardio, but then when I think of it most of those involve arm movements.

Maybe I should just hibernate over the winter and wait until spring-like weather comes.

Oh, and I cannot help but notice the advertisement for flexi8 clips on the left banner of the screen at this moment. I had one once. I loved it, wore it all the time, until it finally broke after years of wear. I wish they were sold locally. *sigh* I always want what I cannot have.

Must be something in the air. Today was my only morning available to run since Monday but I was just dead tired, and slept in. On top of that, I went out to quickly shovel and landed on my knee. It'll be fine (just bruised), but it smarted like H$!! at the time. It just wasn't my morning (or week as far as that goes).
I'm sure it'll just make me appreciate next week more. See there's always a silver lining.

runner, I hope you feel better soon.

aaa, Hang in there. Recovery time sucks, but you really need to make sure you take it.

FTFE...it starts at 7:30 AM..I was thinkin' 8:30..yikes! lol No, I don't have a plan for eating. I usually run on an empty stomach & eat afterwards. Love snowmobiling! lol at FTFE...Is is time to present w~h her diploma?

I cannot run in cold weather either. We've got frost today. Can't imagine running in that! I remember walking at nite in the winter, but I didn't care for it.

aaa...hang in there!

Been doing my schedule. It's been a bit challenging making the changes mc said, but well worth it! The only problem now is since the cold, my hips are back to killing me at night...ack. Interestingly, my hips don't hurt while running...

Keep up the great work, y'all!
How are your shoes Wile? I start to get achy in the hips and knees when I've racked up the mileage on my shoes and I'm due for a new pair. Nice job challenging yourself a bit

My hips really hurt at night in bed. I have a hard time sleeping on my side. Since the babe, my hips have always hurt. Another reason why I hate this time of year...the cold, I think attributes to it. We have a new great pillowtop mattress, so I know that isn't it, b/c my back never hurts...urgh

btw...I'll be sending you a new pic in the next few days

ooo, can't wait Is Wile Sprout getting anxious for Christmas?
Hmm, have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your knees when you lay on your side? I used to have a lot of troubles with my hips when I was pg and the pillow really did the trick to ease the discomfort. I'm drawing a blank, did you say you went to a specialty shop to be fitted for the right shoes? For some reason I'm vaguely remembering something regarding this, but my zoo of a brain likes to play tricks on me Since you are running more, not having proper fitting shoes might attribute to additional aches and pains associated with running.

haha, I'm surprised I even got this far with my post. My hands and forearms are numb from my run. Nt sure why I thought a long run after 2 plates of spaghetti and 2 rice crispy bars would be a good idea, alas I did manage 7mi out of my 10. Officially in training now for my upcoming half (Feb. 14) so I guess starting my long run off at 7mi is ok, can only build mileage from here

hope everyone has a great weekend! dh and I are off to a holiday party where I'm sure I'll indulge in way too much wine and chocolates, like I do every year. Che sera sera, no kids tonight..why the hell not?

Mama, I hope you enjoyed the wine and chocolate last night, and that the hangover gods were kind to you this morning. I'll go ahead and hand you a glass of gaterade in case they weren't. Let me know when you're ready for the chicken noodle soup and saltines.

WileE, Every once in a while my hips bother me at night when I'm trying to sleep too. I have not found a correlation with running or exercise or lack there of. I attribute it to being over 40 For me it'll come on for a few nights and then I'll be fine. Stretching seems to help, but I don't know if it would go away on it's own or not. It's a ***** because it always causes restless nights of sleep. The pillow trick never works for me when I have a "flare up".

yowza, I'll take that chicken soup please AND some extra gatorade. Finally feeling half human again, I just can't party like I used to apparently. It never stops me from thinking that I'm back in college pounding down beers until 4am
no workout today obviously, though did get some booty shakin in last night on the dance floor...so I'll count it as an hour of dancing

Wile bummer about the pillow, are there any stretches you can do for your hips to help them? Maybe Wild has some good yoga tricks up her sleeve to share with you on how to loosen up those hips. One hip/IT band stretch I really like is the Pigeon Pose

Mama, Not to worry, we all like to "try" and relive our glory days. LOL

Today was W9D1. I slowed down since I only got one short interval run in last week. I wanted to make sure I made the full 30 minutes. That wasn't a problem. I ended up at 33 minutes at a run rate (slow slow and more slow) for 2.5 miles total. I felt like I could have done more, but I was ran out of time (no pun intended).

Everyone have a fantastic day.

Wild, I hope I didn't scare you off from coming back t get your diploma with the acceptance speech words. I was really just kidding.
