Exercise accountability thread

Mama, I'm still working on 3 miles in less then 39 minutes. LOL Although I did get 3 miles in 39 minutes on Monday and that included 3 minutes of my warm-up walk and 1 minute of my cool down walk.

Today was Cathe's STS disk 4 (55 minute chest, shoulders and biceps endurance workout which means 15 reps of most exercises).

Everyone have a fabulous day.

I've been doing ashtanga yoga, but not running. So I never did the last day of the C25K.

I should point out that I did complete this program before, so I'm not that fussed about formally finishing it. I don't want to lose my running momentum, however.

Anyway, I was going to go to the Dome tonight, because my schedule is totally cooperating. But it's effing freezing outside today, hovering around zero, and quite frankly, I don't feel like leaving my house! So I'll probably just do yoga tonight. Maybe I'll make it to the Dome on Thursday.

The limited schedule at the Dome is killing me. I've never been too good with schedules and classes, it makes things too inflexible. However, I will be moving soon and I think I'll be able to run at an indoor track at a community center with far better hours and for very little $$$.

Here's the nitty gritty, for my own edification:
- ashtanga primary series last Wed
- ashtanga primary series on Sat
- 20 minutes of yoga last night
Tough workout today: short hill repeats (~.1 mile @ 8% incline). I wanted to do 10 repeats, but my legs were fried after 7. Still I am very happy with the workout because I was able to keep a fairly steady pace up through the 6th repeat. 1.5 w/u and 1.5 c/d. With my rest intervals included my Garmin has me down for a total of 4.5 miles.

I'm going to be SO sore tomorrow!

Sorry I have been posting so intermittently, but I have a crazy schedule through the weekend and I am not always able to get online. So I don't have time to go through everything I've missed until then. For now: good job y'all!!!

Wild, Ah I see, your C25K program was simply a refresher course for you. I wish I had your dedication to Yoga. I know I could use it, but....

runner, Way to conquer the hills. 8% grade, yikes!!!

Today was Cathe's Imax Extreme from her Terminator DVD. It was a great calories burner, but 75 minutes of step intervals was not the right way to reintroduce step into my routine again. LOL. My legs are going to feel that tomorrow. I forgot how different step and running (on a treadmill) are in how they work your muscles.

Everyone have a terrific day.

FTFE, we can be sore together! Right now I'm seriously feeling yesterday's hill workout. I figure it will peak tomorrow morning. Ugh...today's run is going to kill me!

Someone remind me why I would do this to myself?

how did today go Chicki? hopefully it wasn't too torturous of a run. and you do it because you're hardcore!

5.5mi today on treadmill. 5mi run in 39min, .5mi warmup/cooldown

Think I'll do the stationary tomorrow, light run on Friday and long run on Sat.

Mama-- I had a rest day today!! I was dressed and ready to go and looked at my schedule and saw a big fat zero... I was out of my running clothes and on the couch in about 90 seconds! Does that count as a speed workout?

The rest of my week is EASY! I love being my own coach...

runner, At least you bothered to put on your workout cloths. I slept in. If felt great and I don't feel guilty about it either.

Mama, Great run as always!!

WileE, 45 Minutes. That's great! I want to get to 43 minutes before the end of the year.

holy wowza Wile, where did that come from?! Nice job on the 45min, that's so awesome.

Chicki, don't blame you. HOpe you enjoyed your rest!

FT, you too are really knocking out your runs. You'll definitely be able to do 43min by the end of the year, just think it's just a few min more than where you've been.

no workout for me just yet, though been cleaning like a maniac this am, tidying, mopped kitchen floor, mopped foyer, cleaned a bathroom, gave 3 kids baths, send one kid off to school, did homework with 2 out of 3 kids, broke up about 5 fights between the younger two, folded a load of laundry and it's not even noon yet. Hope I have enough energy to hop on the bike during "quiet time"

I went running at the Dome tonight, it was good. I just did 25 min of running, trying to acclimate to the concrete and the fact that I haven't run in a bit.

There was this freaky part at the end where I knew I only had 5 minutes until they closed up, and while I was done running, I still needed to cool down. So I decided to walk one more lap around the concourse. [This thing takes place on the upper concourse, where people walk to get to their seats, in a big circle.]

After a bit there was no one around me and I started to wonder why, and I sort of panicked and started running again toward the starting point.

I had this scene unfolding in my head where I got locked in the Dome overnight because I got left behind. Then I saw some people getting their coats on and there was my stuff too.

And it was fine.

By the way, does anyone else suspect they might be sort of addicted to exercise?

I think I am. I mean I did a session of ashtanga yoga on Saturday, then 20 minutes on Monday night. Then nothing until today. So, really, not much exercise at all S-M-T-W. And man was I cranky. There were even tears and being totally snippy [well, with my cats, but still ].

I have SAD in the winter, and I'm doing stuff to combat it, exercise is definitely part of that plan. I guess I just really cannot go that long without vigorous exercise in the wintertime. I think in the summer I'd be OK though.
Okay I know I said I'd be happy with only a 15 to 30 second improvement on my 2.75 mile distance, but I was hoping that 15 second improvement wasn't going to feel so hard. I had to really push. I used self talk, visualation techniques, and every trick in the book that I knew of to get through my 35 minutes of running. You could say I was running from the voice that kept telling me to stop. LOL Good news is I did 2.78 miles in 35 minutes (I hit 2.75 miles at 34:45).

Mama, Wow you were just a cleaning machine yesterday. Want to come over to my house today??? Did you get in a bike ride?

Wild, Glad to hear you made it to the dome. Wise move limiting your run on the harder concrete. How are you feeling today? I joke about being addicted to exercise too, but I think for me it's more of a habitual craving. Like potato chips. Thankfully I exercise more often then I grab for the potato chips. It IS a great mood enhancer. Yes I was talking about exercise, but sadly that sometimes applies to potato chips.

FTFE...ty...I still would like to have more distance in, but know it will come in time. I don't wanna overdo it. You def can do it!

mc...I don't know! I think I've been psyching myself up for it for a bit now. The other day this dude was running next to me & kept going after I stopped. I was like, dang, I can do that! So, I gave it a shot & so far, so good...no walking/getting up outta bed probs...

w~h...I def know whatcha mean about being addicted! I'm worried how I'll do my schedule this week..ack! I'm very firm on not missing my workouts/runs. I've worked so hard to get here, I don't wanna blow it...
I'm impressed at how you are all continuing to run through the rough weather!

I was out of commission for 1.5 weeks due to illness and snow and freezing rain (they don't plow at all here and only occasionally salt/sand.... we are just supposed to wait for it to melt and try not to kill ourselves in the meantime). My first day back, I barely made it through a 3 km run. Running is very unforgiving I have learned!

Anyways, I got through the week and I ran a full 10k for the first time on Saturday!!! It took me 1 hr and 23 minutes doing 10/1's, which is probably the way I will be actually running my race in mid-January (but hopefully a tad faster that that!). I still found the hardest stretch to be between 4-5k for some reason, and between 7-9k felt super. This was a big psychological barrier for me, so I'm feeling good!

Thanks for listening, everyone. I love having this thread to post about this stuff (that no one else is interested in!)

Good Morning All,

Today was 41 minutes of running: 3.14 miles, so I officially did a full 5K plus an extra step or two. Since I don't know if I'll get more then two more runs in before the end of the year, I'm keeping my goal at 43 minutes to ring in the new one.

mad, great to see you stop by. Sorry to hear the weather is keeping you from running, but it sounds like you're still doing great. I find I often have a "sticking spot" I need to push through also. It's typically in the first 10 minutes or between 20 and 30 minutes, but it varies and can pop at at any time. This place really is great isn't it? WTG with your first 10K!!!

Have a terrific day everyone!!!

mad - woohoo! 10k is awesome!

FTFE - great job! I'm so stoked everyone is doing so well!

Today was just over 11 miles. Took it very slow because the holiday madness is interrupting my running schedule more than I anticipated. But it was a beautiful day and I really enjoyed the sunshine.

Just some snow shoveling for me today. Nice light fluffy stuff. It's still coming down, so I'll get the chance to get in a little bit more later on today.

runner, I am in awe: 11 miles. I can't even imagine that.

I don't know when I'll get to check in again so everyone have a great Holiday.

Hey everyone! Glad you all are keeping up with things, it's often challenging this time of year.

Since my last update, I've been trying to do something every day, no matter how small. I just find it helps me stay motivated, and it also does amazing things for my mood. We just rounded the corner with the solstice, so we are in the deepest, darkest part of winter right now, which is the toughest time for me, SAD-wise.

So here's what I did:

Friday just a couple sun salutations
Saturday 20 minutes of yoga [I just begin the ashtanga primary series and do what I can in 20 minutes]
Sunday 35 minute run [outside, it was nice!]
Monday 25 minutes yoga
Tuesday 30 minute run at the Dome

My next thing is to figure out how to improve my running. I want to research how to increase my endurance and speed. Right now at the Dome I can see how slow I am, since I'm running right next to everyone else. The only people slower than me are the walkers! Even this speed-walker passed me!

Actually, I guess I don't really care too much who's passing me, but it does help to have goals.

Keep it going!
4 miles at an unbelievably painful pace. I was trying to catch up to my husband who is so much faster than I am. He wasn't feeling great though and I thought I had a chance to catch him. I was scheduled for a tempo run anyway, so the workout was great. I'm pretty tired though. Yesterday's long run and today's speed workout have fried my legs.

Announcement:

My oldest son got engaged today!!!!!!!! I'm so excited because this girl is wonderful. I've got two boys, and now I will have a daughter-in-law!!!1
