I know this is way late, but I don't remember reading this post earlier. So I just wanted to tell you that what you did was a-maz-ing! 15-30 seconds over 2.75 miles is a LOT of time actually, and the effort level it takes to speed up that much is significant. I am very impressed! The techniques you used to get through the run are great mental training techniques so you really did great. Truly girlfriend, pat yourself on the back for being so tough.

just checking in, computer crashed for a few days. Yes FT, did get on the bike for 40min that day...man when was that?? Super awesome job on the increase in speed and distance too! It's taking you no time at all, I bet it feels great!!

Wild, I'm definitely addicted to working out. Or should I say, that my sanity needs me to. I get super crabby when I don't exercise too. you had me giggling on your dome post

Wile, keep on keepin on. Holy moly, you've got some rockstar motivation in you! Excited about your race? Few weeks away now isn't it? 17th?

Chicki, congrats on the engagement!! I'm in the bridal bus. if you need a semi-professional opinion on bridal attire

Ok, Sat and Sunday didn't workout. Monday I did 3mi on the tm in 23:03min then an hour of belly dance. Tuesday I did an hour of zumba then shoveled snow for almost 2hrs. Today I did a 10miler in the snow..definitely had to take it slow and figure out how to work my footing in the snow. This is my first outside run of the winter season.

Probably either take tomorrow off or do the bike. Not sure yet. If I do the bike tomorrow, then I'll rest Fri. Sat I'll do a 5miler or so at the gym. I'll probably be off for the rest of the week, so you all have a splendid holiday!! May you all enjoy all of the little things that bring smiles to your faces and warmth to your hearts

I did YOGA yesterday for the first time in my life. I thought it would be gentle and relaxing...today I am so sore!!

I will continue to incorporate it into my routine though because I was surprised at the core strength necessary to hold the poses. And the flexibility? Well, I have none and at my age it is no longer optional to stretch or not to stretch. SO, I've got a tough time ahead while I make up for about 20 years of a non-stretching lifestyle.

Hi everyone... not sure I belong here, but I'd like to get back in shape. Long story short, I moved this time last year - including buying a house, finding a new job, getting engaged, etcetcetc. I totally lost focus on health and fitness goals and have gained some weight in the process. :/ I am trying to lose 20lbs or so before next fall, when we are planning to get married. I started doing - don't laugh - The Firm videos on Saturday. I've done these before and although they're kind of old school and goofy, I've done well with them in the past.

Anyway - I don't want to be an athlete or beat any records or anything, just want to get back in shape.

Here's my progress so far:
-55 minute workout vid. on Saturday
-45 minute fast paced walk today

I plan to do the workout vid. or other similar ones in the mornings before work. I might start out with every other day at first, but would like to do every day after getting back into the swing of it.

Thanks! I got up and did another 55min exercise vid this morning before work. It was tough to get up an hour early, but I feel pretty good now. I'm SUPER hungry though, which always happens to me when I first start a new exercise program.

Good morning all, Today was a 43 minute run (3.27 miles). I reached my year end goal, so now I don't have to worry about my schedule screwing me up.

Aussie, Welcome aboard. You're a perfect candidate or this thread. So is anyone looking for motivation. We're at all different levels with different goals. I've done Firm workouts and while they're not my personal cup of tea, they are great workouts.

Wild, We can both start a "cloppers" club (that's sorta how I feel about my speed ). Honestly, I don't worry about my speed compared to anyone else, and you shouldn't either. I only compete with myself. Glad to hear you got a few runs in.

WileE, Woohoo! You are soooo ready for your race.

runner, I hear ya on the stretching/Yoga. I really need to incorporate it more. I felt great when I was stretching just for 15 minutes 3 days a week. It's just always my last priority. Too bad we can't all have Wild's dedication to Yoga. Congrats on your son's engagement to a future wonderful daughter in law.

Mama, Eat, drink, eat and drink some more that's what the holidays are for. I just wish they could stretch them out a bit more. Xmas and New Years being a week apart is always killer....

Thanks FTFE. Honestly, I feel kind of silly doing them. I feel less silly when I'm sweating and feeling muscles I forgot I had though! I used to be a runner, but pounding the pavement is too hard on my knees. Maybe one day I'll get an elliptical when I've got some extra $.

FT, I totally agree with the above statement too. I'm so not competitive, even with myself I'm more about enjoying what I'm doing and feeling good doing it, though the drive to go just a bit faster or farther is in me a little and it's fun to reach new personal records. Way to go on reaching your goal!!

Aussie, I'm always hungry too. Always burning calories too though, so I guess it makes sense

3mi speedwork, 23:05, and 50min light zumba this am...was expecting belly dance so I was pretty whooped by the end of it all.

12 miles yesterday; felt freakin' awesome!

I did a 3.5 mile powerwalk/run with my dog this afternoon. Beautiful day today. In the high 30's, but sunny and clear. My kind of weather! I plan to stretch this evening with my husband. We are the same age and he has decided to tackle stretching with me. Thank goodness I won't be alone or I might cop out!

Wile - you are rockin' the running clock! You're going to hit an hour straight pretty soon. Are you enjoying it?

Hey everybody! Glad to see everyone still here — and welcome to Australia!

Wile, you're blowing me away here. Very inspiring. Not that long ago you and I were neck and neck, and so I'm thinking, "Well if she can do it …"

runner, I'm glad you're doing the yoga — it's very rewarding, and complements running nicely, I think. It's sooooo good for you, and once you get into it, you'll find your body craving it to release tension and get things "reset."

I've been running outside on the lunar landscape that is the Minneapolis streets and sidewalks. We had slushy, heavy snow on Christmas Eve and Day, which then sort of got rained on, became even slushier, then froze into this bumpy, lumpy mess. It's not even snow anymore, it's just ice now.

But my mom got me these for Christmas:

and they work splendidly. No slipping whatsoever. And the cold doesn't bother me at all, I get so hot when I exercise anyway. I don't even have any of that fancy pants specialized gear yet, I just wear layers. It was around 15 out when I was out there and I was fine.

Thursday
20 minutes of yoga

Friday, Christmas Day
sledding with the kiddos [climbing a hillside with 2 feet of snow over and over again is a workout for sure]

Saturday
30 minute run

Sunday
25 minutes yoga

Monday/today
35 minute run

Keep it going!

Today was Cathe's MMA: Boxing with 1/2 lb gloves. Nice workout. Mostly upper body with a few lower body agility drills and then some tough core work at the end.

Mama, you are so adorable. In your case there's no need to compete with near perfection.

Wild, I've seen those at the grocery store for about $15. I wondered if they really worked. We have a steep driveway and I figured they might help from slipping down it when shoveling snow in icy conditions. I'll have to get some. Thanks!!

Aussie, I never felt silly doing the Firm workouts. They just never grabbed me and made me want to do them on a regular basis. They do have some newer workouts where the sets and outfits are up to date, if that's what makes you feel silly.

runner, How great that your DH is active with you.

I should mention it's not in the picture I posted, but the pair of Wintertrax that I have came with a velcro strap that goes across the top of your shoe. This is a new addition to those things, to prevent them from falling off, which was an issue with the older models.

So if anyone winds up picking up a pair, make sure to get a pair with that strap.

Mine are from just a few years ago, 2005 maybe? I just feel silly exercising in front of a video regardless of what's on it since I used to be a no nonsense runner type person. My SO is impressed with results (bigger feeling muscles) after the past few days though and says he wants to do it too. Hee! That will really make me laugh.

Did another hour-long exercise vid this morning. I felt really fatigued though and had a bit of trouble finishing some of the sets.

I think I will take a rest day tomorrow to let my body recoup a bit. Planning to walk a lot in DC though, so we'll call that my exercise for the day.

Thanks for the clarification Wild.

Aussie (or would you prefer Sydney? ), I decided to join you for a rest day today.

I feel a cold coming on and I'm heading out of town tonight for the holiday. I really really hate traveling when I'm sick so I'm sucking down liquids like crazy to fight this thing.

Everyone have a great new years and I'll see ya all next year
