I've missed you too, girl!

I know how life can be, especially since you have 3 kiddos! I can't even handle my one...lol

ty! It really has made a difference having your support. As crazy as it sounds, I do miss it when I get off my schedule. I love when I can run! Tho, don't think it'll be more than a 10K

Yep, a few more pounds until in the next decade...keep on, keepin' on!

Wow! You look fabu.

Had a pretty good run yesterday. I was worried w/ the break after the 5K, but things went well. I did better than I thought I'd do...now, if I could just stay away from the wine!
ah, have your wine and enjoy it...you deserve it Wile!
Glad you are enjoying yourself, happy running Mama!

I did 60 minutes cardio! *punches air* I did have to break it up into 15 minutes blocks but yay me!

I haven't started with any weights yet because my back was aching a bit. Maybe sunday.

mc...I forgot to tell you my time. I'll go ahead & post it here...
40 min, which includes 5 min of walking...not too bad, eh?
holy smokes Wile, you shaved off like 12min off your time didn't you? That rocks Nice job enduing the not so awesome feeling run, those are equally important as the feel great runs...just have to know how to handle them.
Did 4mi barefoot run with Nyla in jogger and Max (tough little guy) on his bike, it was 22mph winds gusting into our faces at 30mph on the way out..thank goodness it pushed us on the way back.
Going for another run solo today, looking forward to it 6-7mi hopefully. Supposed to be beautiful this afternoon.

So, how do you handle those kinda runs?
Usually, I just keep on, keepin' on. I can usually tell if I'm pushing myself too hard, tho...
Can I join for running support?

I used to be a serious runner (5k, 10k, half and full marathon). And then I got a stress fracture about 7.5 years ago two weeks before my second marathon.

After my injury, I ran on and off for several years, but wasn't consistent as I was afraid of getting injured and I wasn't healing well.

Now, I'm back to full force running. Although, I'm feeling the effects of age (33). :-/ I think 33 is still young, but I'm not that little gazelle I used to be at 25. LOL.

For those of you who have been running for a while, does your body feel different with time?

Anyway, I'm running my first race in seven years next Saturday. It's an 8k (~5 miles). I hyped, but a little nervous.

I've been training diligently and incorporating things like pilates and functional strength (resistance bands, balls, etc.). But, I think I'm frustrated that I'm not as fast as I used to be. I'd like to get fast again. Although, I've only started running seriously again since January. I'm up to 5-6 miles now. I run anywhere from 9-15 miles a week. But I realize how much I have to monitor my diet now to make sure I get the right nutrients and enough calories. If I don't eat well, I feel awful and can't run well. Again, I'm wondering if this is aging.

I'd like to do a half-marathon again by the end of summer.

Welcome, Costenya!
Yeah, aging sucks...
Keep on, keepin' on!
Awesome what you have accomplished! I don't think I'd get past 10K
Yay! I did weights today! I'm surprised my strength has remained pretty much the same as it was for my upper body. I can't do much with my legs at the moment but I'm OK with them. I feel great, I forgot how much I enjoyed weights and it shows progress.

Now to eat a baguette (I'm having a jacket potato later so I can )

They're cooked in the oven in their skins for about an hour.

lmbo at the jacket potato Laura Good to know, was it enjoyable? Nice job keeping up with your workouts!

Wile, while they aren't ideal for running or much of anything, windy, rainy, snowy, cold, hot etc are all good learning experiences not only because you never know what to expect on race day (conditions will not always be perfect and you have to be prepared for the elements), but are good humbling experiences too. They're good for teaching you how to listen to and work with your body, learn how to push hard when it feels right and overcome your obstacles, to let up and just enjoy your run for what it is in any situation and try to embrace change and difference. Gosh, why am I so sappy today. In a nutshell, while I sort of drag my feet out the door to get into a run like that, that pretty much sums up how I feel about them. That being said, kicked my ass out the door Saturday for another windy (again, gusting in my face at 30mph half of the route) for 6.75mi after practicing my zumba routines for 30min.

Welcome Costenya! Sorry to hear about your injuries, glad you are back on the running wagon. I've only been running for about 4yrs or so, though I feel better now (4 yrs older) than I did in the beginning or now more than last year for that matter. I've refocused my runs to run wisely, efficiently, responsibly, injury reducing, and overall more enjoying a run rather than focusing solely on just getting out there to put in my miles and try to plow over previous PR speeds. I'm running barefoot now and have to say that this spring has been some of the best running I've had ever, aside from a little bottom of the foot rawness after a long run as my feet get used to the conditioning, I haven't a single ache or pain or complaint about any of my runs. I read Born to Run and was deeply inspired, highly recommend it!
Glad to have you, good luck with your upcoming event! Run Happy

ty for your insight...
Now onto another ?
I was chatting w/ another chick at the fitness center today. She said she ran in the 5K that I did a couple of weeks ago! Small world, isn't it?!
Anyway, she mentioned if she runs too slow she gets the same symptoms I do...those hip aches & shin spints...
Do you think that is what is happening? I can't run faster b/c it doesn't work for me. Interestingly, she said the same thing, so she has to walk at times. I can't do that b/c it throws off my 'mojo'...lol

Thoughts?

Keep on, keepin' on curlies!
hey Wile, shin splints and hip aches are usually caused by overstriding (foot striking out side of your center of gravity) and heel striking (caused by overstriding). Try shortening your stride a bit and keeping your cadence up even while you are slowed down, aim for 175-180 steps per minute when slowed and 190-200 when faster running. Try landing midfoot and letting your heel kiss the ground, you'll find it's much more gentle on those joints

gl, lots of zumba to do today!

or old age, right?

hmmm...my stride is not long at all & I'm only 5'2"
I know what you are saying & try to be mindful of it...interesting, tho

Hopefully zumba went well for you!
haha Wile, I refuse to go there with the "o" word See if shortening your already small but mighty stride helps with the aches. I keep these feet (at the top of the site http://therunningbarefoot.com/?page_id=525) in mind when out on my runs (though mine are barefoot you could maybe try it with shoes

did 1.5hrs zumba yesterday, was able to lead a few songs in the class which was a ton of fun!! Hopefully a half a class by Friday!
Going for a long run today, shooting for 12-13mi. We'll see what I have for time, dh decided to go fishing all morning :
