11.5mi run in my barefeet! wooowee! Feet were a tad raw toward the end, but are good now. That's my farthest yet.

Where do you run barefoot [I'm assuming a treadmill..]?
Also, what's the purpose?

I actually run barefoot outside on all kinds of surfaces, mostly pavement, chipseal bike path, concrete sidewalks etc.
Barefoot running/natural running (which includes barefeet as well as minimal shoes...like Vibram 5 fingers, no cushion racing flats, lightweight flexible shoes etc) is a great way to get back to a way of running in a more gentle manner, reducing injury and strengthening the whole body (feet included). We are more prone to injury when we rely heavily on the cushioned training shoes to "absorb the shock" than our own feet. So far, 3 months in, I am feeling wonderful..no aches or pains whatsoever (aside from a little rawness on the soles of my feet...though I'm still building plantar toughness) after my runs. I used to get aches in my right hip after my long runs, and sometimes in my knees when my shoes were about spent. It's been an amazing, humbling, empowering and liberating experience so far and I'm really enjoying my runs much more than I ever have.

Interesting about the barefoot running. Do you think it would work for other cardio workouts as well?

When I get back to my usual fitness levels I may give it a go.

Definitely, depending on the workout. I enjoy zumba barefoot, though it's harder to do some of the pivoting without shoes so I've got these on the way http://www.dancewearsolutions.com/da...ical/D307.aspx. Though when teaching Zumba, I have to wear shoes because the vast majority of folks haven't developed foot and ankle strength to withstand being barefoot in a high impact workout. I bet kickboxing would be good barefoot, tae bo (I always did barefoot), walking, aerobics...

I might give barefoot walking on a treadmill a go. I usually go barefoot at home but I'm not sure what they'd think at the gym

I am still surprised my upper body is pretty much the same strength as it was before my operation. My right leg is still weaker than the left. But they're both weaker than before. Oh well, it'll return.

I ran my 8k race today, finishing in 45:19. I was happy and ecstatic at the end of the race. But when I checked my time on-line I was slightly disappointed (I ran a 9:11-minute pace). I will always remember the days when I was "faster".

It seems silly though to lose focus of the fact that I ran and finished. Although, I remind myself that it's been 7 years since I last raced and I've only started running seriously since late January.

I'm hoping to sign up for a 5k in May, another race in August and a half-marathon in September.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Mamacurl. I think I'm a much wiser runner. My goal in this "second phase" of running, so to speak, is to remain injury free. Gone are the days of pushing myself to overtrain my body with exceedingly long runs, which is what got me injured in the first place. I want to be able to run for the long-haul. You are right: it's definitely about enjoying the run and running strong!

Keep me posted Laura, I usually wear just socks on the treadmill at the gym. Not sure they'd want me totally barefoot there

Costenya! Awesome job on your first race back! Running strong mentality puts me in a much better place for running. Glad you are in a happier running place

On that note, I had an absolute fantastic barefoot run today. Not sure exactly how far, somewhere between 6.5-7mi. Ran with dh and the kids, dh did a walk run so I looped around him a few times with older kids on bikes. They headed home and I felt so good I decided to get in an extra 2-3mi. It was then that I hit a crazy state of running euphoria, I felt so strong, the road was all mine. I kicked it down and gave it all I had while the road felt good under my feet. Then through the woods on the way back, I embraced the apple blossoms and butterflies. Hard to find the right words, but it was just such a magical run. Good stuff!

2.5mi on treadmill before belly dance, will get another hour of belly dance in later tonight too. My feet are a bit sore from a weekend of running. Looking forward to tomorrow's day off of running.

After a great start to this year's new years resolution to get back in shape and start eating right, I got hit with some majorly stressful "life" situations and completely fell off the fitness wagon. Fast forward to last weekend: I went shopping for a few new items of clothing and felt totally fat. I stopped shopping for clothing and went elliptical shopping instead. I spent way more than I would have on clothing, but it's an investment that I feel really good about. I now have a (pricey) elliptical in our spare bedroom that I have used every day for the past 7 days. It feels good and I'm already seeing the positive effects. I have no excuse to not exercise when the equipment is 3 steps down the hall. I have a goal of being back to my "ideal" size for my wedding in September.

Side note: FH (future hubby) helped me put it together and has been using it every day since we got it too!

I was doing pretty good today.
Got off to a rough start, but in true wile e fashion, kept going...
I've never missed more than a few days & didn't want to miss any more days...so it all worked out...

Squats, lunges and plies (sorry can't put the accent on the e) yesterday. My butt aches a bit. But I need to increase the strength in my right leg and this helps.

Today: going up and down the stairs numerous times at work and balancing on one leg at a time. Seems easy now but not too long ago I couldn't do it. Also it helps the core.

I'm going to the gym tomorrow, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I get there. I usually decided on the day.

12.5mi, I'm spent! didn't realize there were 25mph gusts of wind pushing against me on the first 7mi of my run and a new route with a mile long hill! LOL Going to sleep good tonight.

32 minutes on the elliptical this morning. I'm slowly increasing time and intensity. I have to keep myself motivated and not make it so I am totally spent and can't imagine doing it the next day. I read somewhere that it takes 21 days to build a habit. This will be day 10 of waking up and exercising and eating not only more healthfully, but also mindfully. I think the habit is coming back again. It used to be such a pain in the butt to wake up an hour early to work out and make lunch before I go to work, but it's starting to feel "normal" like it did long, long ago.
