Default No cones no sulfates

Today I started my real hair care journey of NO SILICONES; Therefore, NO harsh-surfactant and nutrient-robbing SULFATE ingredient shampoo.

I will update this first post with my progress including PICS, products I got rid of, and products I believe are safe.

This is me, fresh out the shower, from my last sulfate shampoo wash and put a little conditioner back in and some gel.

DAY 2
###########################
These are the products I have to throw away 

This is 2nd day hair with new
NO CONE Regiment. It's not as thick as it normally is but I already see some benefits if I keep going long term:

I lose about 6-7 inches to shrinkage. I might choose the NO COMBING method too but one step at a time.

I'm not saying whether cones are bad because there is no conclusive evidence of that but there is evidence that the shampoos required to remove the coney buildup are harsh and very damaging to the hair.

I figure if I'm going to have hair then I might as well have naturally healthy hair and not just hair that looks good because it's coated with products that contain cones. I was watching some YouTube videos and when after people wash their hair it looks dry, thin, course, and not healthy until after they load products back in. I don't want that. I want healthy hair with and without products.

I understand lol because I was especially concerned that I just spent $30 for conditioner but...I have to seriously consider sticking to my experiment even though I do attribute my quick hair growth to constantly co-washing with those Organix conditioners.

But again I want to see the real results 5 months down the road and have to just toss that stuff out

DAY 2 - PROTECTIVE STYLING
###########################

This is my hair in protective style for playing sports:

I wore my hair today inside a bandana. Now that I don't use SILICONE based products I can't use my Morroccan Oil that had UV protection.

I researched today about the gel I am able to use is most products that are stored in clear containers already contain UV protective ingredients as not to discolor the product which is exposed to light.

So I packed on my NO CONE gel, that is supposed to be packed with proteins and other good stuff, on top of my conditioner I used a little of my rinse out (RI) conditioner as my leave-in (LI) conditioner and it is the Suave Naturals Tropical CocoNut:

This is the gel I use that is supposed to be very good for my new regiment. It's called "La Bella Gel" sold at Target:

Your hair rocks dude! I'll bet it feels a lot lighter without the cones.

That's a lot of product to trash. Maybe you could give it to someone on freecycle.

I need to figure out how to wear a bandana like that. I work as a machinist and that would be useful to keep the oil out of my hair.

@CHUCK

Hey man thanks!!

I put the bandana close on my eyebrows, tucked behind my ears on the side, and then tied way down low by my neck under all the hair. Then just fluff the hair that's sticking out.

DAY 3 and 4 and PICS
#######################

On Day 3 which [3rd day hair] I got a lot of compliments the next day on how the hair seemed more defined and looked like it just blew in the wind LMAO

I think I'm gonna try that Kinky Curling Custard but not sure if I want to pay $20 for that small container.

#######
DAY 4
#######

Last night I co-washed with 2
NO CONE conditioners. I learned that you use one conditioner to gently massage and scrub the scalp then your second conditioner to detangle and rinse.

I am finding out that my hair styles respond better when I apply styling products in steps, wait an hour, and then rewet and style with a gel to seal. I have about 4 different curl patterns and they have to be taken into account.

To attain great 2nd Day and even 3rd day hair I found it useful to seal with a hard hold gel and then immediately style for 1st day hair considering first day will include crunchy curls.

Then when 2nd an 3rd day arrive just finger comb and gently massage out the hair which is enclosed in the hard gel encasings. You might decide to keep some of the hard more shiny pieces and you can also separate the larger clumps to add more volume and depth.

This is my second day hair after waking up and fingering out some of the crunchy gel. I also scrunched. You can't tell in the pictures but there's a lot of depth.

Looks like I cut several inches of hair but it's just shrinks up a lot when it dries. Also, I used regular conditioner as my leave-in so it's kinda stringy but doable for now:

Back of my hair so you can see it is curly too.

#####
WAYS TO IMPROVE
#####

I need to get a hold on the frizz and estranged pieces. I hate the estranged pieces because they dry by themselves and don't appear to have any direction or purpose other than they are wavy or curly but very thin and lonely looking.

Also, I think I'm gonna try to not use any gel just creamy leave-in but I have no clue which leave-in is free of CONES.

I just started growing my hair last year from this so I have NO IDEA ABOUT HAIR PRODUCTS an just found out leave-in conditioner existed about 2 months ago:

Today I bought "Kinky Curly - Curling Custard"

I have no clue how to use it I just hope I don't end up eating it cause it smells like marshmallows.

I don't know what to do with it but I was told a curl enhancer can help promote curls. I think this goes on before I put regular gel on or something.

Anyone ever use this?? I know the guys area rarely gets views so might check back next month to see if there's any comments LOL

I heard people talk about it how great it works! The only thing about it is, it's pink and smells too girly. I wish they would make a line a products just for men who have curly hair. Something that smells masculine, and have a masculine name. So we won't be ashamed to say what we use lol.

I have seen several men on her website ask her to make a product, or at least packaging for men. You should add your name(s) to the numbers over there - it might work!

kinky-curly.com

@Princeton: use it like you would a gel - rake or shingle it through hair after your leave-in (and sealer, if you use), and think twice about using another gel over it. It gives pretty hard hold on its own. If anything over it, I use a serum to cut out the rest of the frizz (although the curling custard does well with that)

@SageHen

How many guys have requested already cause does it seem like they might listen??

And then there's not a single guy on their website. I actually like the product but won't buy anymore if there's not a more woodsy or pine smell or something natural but for guys.

Today's Hair [PIC]

I don't think I used the KINKY CURLY CURLING CUSTARD (KCCC) custard the right way but I did like how it left my hair light yet had a firm hold.

I only had 5 minutes after I got out the shower to do my hair so I just grabbed the KCCC and layered it on top. I did scrunch it in certain places.

My hair almost seemed to curl up instantly without effort. If I had taken my time like normal (45 minutes) then I bet my results would have been better. I didn't even get a chance to use any conditioner for moisture after the co-wash.

While I have relatively low porosity my hair does enjoy a large load of product at times. But the more product I use the more shrinkage occurs.

This is me about 13 hours later. I will post a pic tomorrow after I cowash and style using KCCC

At this point I don't think I would buy the Kinky-Curly product line again because I wanted to have more product than 8oz for the $20 that I paid on this small container.

This gel FLAKES

Although it has been 24 hours in my hair just an FYI Kinky Curly Curling Custard has tendency to flake.

It doesn't flake unless you have used too much, and make sure you don't have any other product buildup in your hair. Those are the only times I have see flakes. In the case of product buildup, I just washed (with shampoo, containing coco betaine to remove 'cones or buildup) and started over - HATED to waste the KCCC, because it's expensive. When I used too much, I just diffused it until dry, and the next day sprayed with water to re-set. Try shampooing and using less next time you style. And using a leave-in without silicones (I think you are already doing that).

Also, try Queen Helene's Royal Curl Curl Shamping Gel (or Creme - I can't remember the name). I understand from several women on the 4a board that it gives them similar results at a much lower price (about $8 for 15 oz).

I can actually vouch for Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel (about $7 for 8 oz) on vitacost.com or any health food store. It give nice, but not super hard, hold, is flax-seed based but I felt gave me more crunch than KCCC, but you can easily scrunch it out. It cut down on frizz a LOT, but not as much as KCCC.

@SageHEN Thanks. I only used KCCC since I washed out the gel from before and also after doing my last sulfate shampoo so there was only water in my hair. I didn't use the KCCC in conjunction with any product at all and I didn't use a lot of the KCCC cause I had a meeting and didn't want to wait for my hair to dry.

I don't know how to difuse.

I will try the other products you mention because If I spend that type of money it's gonna be for a big bottle of Rusk lol KCCC is such a small sample for $20

I usually don't let product stay in my hair for longer than 12 hours so that might be why it got flakey and also because it's all natural or something.
