^^ You see, here is an example of somebody that hasn't been exposed to all the hate either, I'm assuming??

I think it all just boils down to who you surround yourself with...
Yes, of course anecdotal cases exist, like you and the other person you've quoted. To your/their credit, it's refreshing to hear from two people who are the exception to the rule. It doesn't “just boil down to who you surround yourself with”. Ideally we are only exposed to people whose values align w/ours, but in reality that's not the case. Where you have a point is that it certainly helps to have such people around. But one still has to deal w/outside influences, usually on a daily basis.

As far as you “not knowing of” curly-haired celebrities: well, either someone will believe you on that or not. Seems far-fetched to me, but who knows. What's true is there aren't a bunch of males citing examples of fav curly women on this thread (or elsewhere in the forums), though they've repeatedly pointed out fav curly men over time.

I actually am kind of offended by your language here. Calling me ignorant and that I have a limited social circle isn't to nice. I don't understand why you are getting upset?

Speaking of world, I'm willing to bet that I've traveled more of it then you. Also, since I've seen more of it then you I can tell you that this anti-curl mentality ONLY exists in United States. Besides the Asian countries that have predominately straight hair (I've been to China, Hong Kong, and Korea)

This is why I have felt the need to write a book, because I want to enlighten people here in the United States (and yourself) that curly hair is a beautiful hairstyle and that the people in this country are narrow minded.

Why would I have any reason to lie about this? I sincerely do not know of any....

You know what the difference between you and me is? That I'm actually trying to do something by writing a book, making an album, launching a website and an apparel line all on January 14th. I'm not trying to brag and boast, but I just want you to know that I am not your enemy. It seems that all you are doing is complaining......

I heard her pregancy was fake

Sent from my SPH-M910 using CurlTalk App
SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!
Everyone is talking about it! It can't be fake!

I don't know why she would have to fake a pregnancy but it's whatever. I don't particularly care for the woman but I am disturbed that she's well known and a "rolemodel" but 6 months pregnant she's walking around and dancing in 5 in heels.

While your POV is as valid as anyone else's, you've admitted to a level of ignorance where it concerns exposure to more general, societal views on curly hair. You stated you've had limited exposure to (more general) sociological views on the issue, since you don't follow the news or watch pop culture media. That suggests you have a fairly large info gap re: peoples' general opinions about curly hair. You've said you're aware of the immediate views of yourself and your associates. That represents a bird's eye view when compared to a much larger pool of general opinions.

All of us are ignorant about something (meaning we simply lack general exposure to something; it's not stupidity).

I've inferred that one person's experience is anecdotal, whereas collective reports reveal more general trends.

Don't take it personal, there aren't a lot of guy members to the site. There is no indication that the male members of the site don't like curly hair...that's an assumption based on the lack of response. Or did I miss something?

Hi Maneman,

I'll assume you're addressing me, though others have echoed my sentiment. First, no worries: I'm not taking this personally I've made a couple of observations that seem to go hand in hand as it regards more general views about curly hair on women (as revealed in cultural and media messages/images). My observations were ...

#1. People in general (in this society) seem to embrace straight hair on women far more than they do curly.

#2. That seeming preference (#1) may be playing itself out in this thread, as there does appear to be a paucity of men coming forward to grant examples of females with curly hair they admire. Whereas there are several threads on this forum where men enthusiastically reference men with curly hair they admire.

... I said the lack of enthusiasm may be revealing itself here. That means it also may not be. I just found the lack of responses curious, is all.

Yes, I'm not aware about how much dislike their is surrounding curly hair and I thank you greatly for bringing it to my attention. Now you have re-inspired me to make my website better, my book more inspiring to other curlies, to release more designs for my apparel line and to invest more time in my music. All of this will be released January 14 and I hope you like it : ) If you would like to help me with the apparel line, book, album, or website pleaseee let me know, because I will be more then happy to work with you!!
