Hi, I'm alaron, and I have curly hair.
I'm 31. For most of my life I've kept my hair less than a finger-width long. Any longer and it gets curly. For about 2 years I grew my hair out. I wish my hair grew down, but so far I have not seen that happen.

Attached are 2 files: one at 2 years of growth and one after a regular haircut. The long hair went down to the base of my neck when wet.

Is there a way to help the hair to grow down? Any advise as to styling and stuff?

Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do to make your hair grown downwards instead of up. If may start to hang down as your hair gets longer so that may be what you're missing.

Otherwise, curly hair is awesome, including yours. I think the main points are to make sure you get a cut from someone who really knows how to work with curly hair. Even consider taking in a picture for inspiration and they can help guide you if you have a particular source of inspiration. As far as products go, you can try out many shampoos and conditioners but my personal favorites are Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo (which you have to get online unless a local store carries them) and Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing Conditioner which is available at most drug stores and chain pharmacies. Your hair looks around 3b/3c. It will grow down eventually. I have a similar texture and mine starts to grown down at ~3 inch length.
