Default Help a fella out, 3A-B I think?

I've been doing the CG stuff since about last October or so, still not really happy with it. I stopped using all the products I was using and now use just the TreSemme Naturals conditioner but my hair still doesn't look as good as it used to.

I used to use the TreSemme curly hair line of stuff (mostly the conditioner and sometimes mousse, gel/creme very rarely) but my favorite product was that Suave for Kids Awesome Apple detangler. Smelled spectacular and I could actually get a comb through my hair... I tried several, this was the best thing I had ever found. This finger combing and using a comb in the shower isn't cutting it I don't think. I once had a stylist tell me I need to brush the bottom inch or so of my hair and then comb it, I used to do that as well after spraying tons of that detangler on and it helped immensely. I've never been able to comb in the shower, always needed to get that detangler all over it before I could get in there.

Part of the problem I know is that it's SUPER humid here in College Station, and the other part is I have to have it tied back really often with my internship and when I'm working out or playing sports every day. I guess I'm just really not sure what to do with it. Is there a quality detangler I can get without silicones? Or what do people recommend I do? Some other products or anything? I tried putting more of the Naturals conditioner in as a leave-in like people have suggested and it was pretty disgusting. I could feel it on there all day, grossed me out.

Now 1 (This one was on an exceptionally bad day, not usually that bad)
Now 2 (today, still a bit wet)

You should try V05 Strawberries & Cream Moisture Milks as a leave-in and then use Kinky Curly Curling Custard as a styler. You don't need a lot of either of the products, and when you hair dries it will be crunchy but all you have to do is scrunch the crunch out only when your hair is completely air dried. To speed up the air drying process just squeeze extra moisture out of your hair with an old 100 % cotton t-shirt and then sit in front of a fan on high. Depending on your overall thickness it may or may not take a long time to dry. Otherwise, go about your day while it's almost dry and then when you finally feel it dry then scrunch out the crunch maybe with a little bit of oil/hair butter on your hands. At least give it a try, works for me and I mostly have 3b hair.

Default Try using a gel

Zack,

I don't think you should leave that much conditioner in your hair. From the pictures, it looks like it wouldn't hurt using a gel after you get out of the shower. This should help to seal in moisture and keep frizz away. Try an ECOstyler gel. They are silicone-free and rinse out with water. Make sure you cleanse your hair as well. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips!! I'll definitely look into the products really soon. Sounds like a gel is definitely the way to go. I've seen only a couple negative reviews of the ones mentioned, seems to be almost all positive. I'm gonna look into those and go from there. The SLIP detangler was also recommended to me, but seems pricey.

This is all still pretty new to me so any additional tips are definitely appreciated!

You have very beautiful hair. Looks like 3b/3c/4a to me and a lot of women would probably kill to have it, is my guess You may need to alternate a protein-based conditioner with one like Suave Naturals Coconut.

Speaking of coconut, you might try using coconut oil as a sealer. But if you do, you should use regular commercial shampoo once in a while to reduce build-up.

The fact that you're in such a humid environment means there's only so much you're going to be able to define your curls.
