Default will dying my hair change my hair?

sooo my hair is dark brown and i want to dye it black so black that it has blue undertones. Someone told me that going darker isnt as damaging as going lighter, is this true? If not will my hair change after dying it black. Heres my hair now

I'm not really sure about the answer to your question, but you'd probably get more of a response if you posted this in the main general discussion section. This section doesn't seem to get a lot of traffic.

Going darker doesn't require bleach to achieve but if you use permanent dye then there is a chemical in it meant to lift the cuticle so the dye can fully penetrate. Permanent dye can cause damage but not as much as bleaching and since you going darker you dnt have to worry about it coming out brassy.
