What type of product do you think Ayoade uses to manage his hair?

Hey guys/gals! I'm an 18 yo curly-fro'd geek dude from Miami. I don't use any product in my hair beside some Trader Joe's conditioner. Don't really know much about styling any kind of hair. I was recently watching some British comedy and noticed how wonderfully the funny talented geek Richard Ayoade rocked his curly-fro.

pictures of Richard Ayoade:

I'm fairly sure I have a similar hair type to him.

Obviously nothing too fancy there, but I'm really clueless about hair.

What type of product/etc do you think he uses to get his hair like that?

thanks

Ask for different parents?

There are lots of people who read blogs and watch vloggers, then swear their hair is "similar" to the blogger/vlogger. They then spend hours, days and weeks trying to get the same styles. It takes them a few months to realise "similar" is NOT the "same".

If your hair was similar enough it would do that with the styling products you use already.

Just because you have the same racial background as someone it doesn't mean your hair is the same.

Your hair is unique and there will be people who envy your hair already as it is.

Maybe it would've been better phrased as "what type of product do you think Ayoade uses to manage his hair"? You mentioned that my hair should look good enough with my current styling products, and that's just the thing. The only product I use on my hair is just some conditioner. No pomade/leave-in conditioner/whatever. Usually all my life I'd just get a boring buzzcut so I don't know much about properly managing and getting the most out of my curly-fro.

Edit: I've decided to actually change the title from "How can I get my hair to look somewhat like Ayoade's?" to "What type of product do you think Ayoade uses to manage his hair?". Maybe that will be less troublesome?

Use a gel without alcohol in it, a curl activator or a curl cream.

Everything depends on your hair properties of stand size, hair density, porosity and also environmental factors including water hardness, humidity.

If you want to work out your hair properties go to the front of the website and read the WHOLE page on texture typing. If you have do that come back, post them and we can make suggestions
Love Ayoade's hair (and his new movie The Double!). I would experiment with different gels. Curl Junkie makes great gels. See whether your hair does better with thick gels scrunched into sopping wet hair and air dried. Or maybe it does better with thinner gels scrunched into damp hair that you've gently scrunched the water out of with an an old t-shirt. Or some permutation of these techniques. Then when it's completely dry, scrunch out the crunch.
I agree with Blueblood - love your own hair!

Good luck!

I agree you may want to try different types of curl activators to see which works best for your hair. You apply these to very wet, conditioned hair.

For example, you can test a curl former more like Curly Hair Solutions Curl Keeper, which is more of a water based product. Or whether something like a bit heavier curling cream would work.
