What motivates you to keep your hair curly?

Like Tree2Likes

Not a teen anymore, but I learned to love my curls because they are my signature. In a world of girls all looking the same, my hair stands out (literally sometimes!)

Why yes, I do post from my phone. How could you tell?
I'm 28 now and straightened my hair daily from ages 14-27 because I thought my hair would "poof" otherwise (2c-3a). I just never knew how to control my curls. Finally last year I decided to try it out, I was shocked at how much better it looked than when I was curly at 14. I think I just know my hair better now and can make the curls soft and bouncy. Just started CG a few months ago and it's already way better!!!

I wish I embraced it earlier. I think curls are simply pretty! I love sliding my hands around the curls and I love how bouncy they are when I move. I've straightened it a couple times in the past year, more just as an experiment and I felt so boring, like my hair was sad just hanging there. I just love curls now!

^^ what she said. I look boring with straight hair, I have no idea how I thought I looked good like that! It's flat, lifeless, looks fried because it is! My curls are way healthier. It took a lot of time to get them back to a state of health, & it's still not done. I still have relaxed parts on the canopy I'm growing out. It may be years, & it saddens me that what was so easy & quick to do (relax it), will take years to undo & it still never made it as straight as I wanted it. I have a very resistant curl pattern. So why fight it? This is how God made me & he doesnt screw up. Curls fit my personality better, they make me stand out in a world of straighties & imposter straighties just following each other around like sheep. I had a hairstylist tell me once when I was a kid - "straight hair is boring." I wish I'd listened to her then! If you go curly, it may take you a while to get used to seeing your hair like that & to nurse it back to health & its full curly potential, but after a while you cant imagine it any other way!

fine, thin, normal/(low?) porosity. Mod-CG. Usually I can't co-wash more than 1x a week, & sometimes I have to use T-Gel in rotation due to scalp issues.

Co-wash: VO5 Volumizing
Poo: Giovanni 50:50
RO:TN, Nexxus Youth Renewal, Alba Coconut
PT: gelatin PT, ION EC
Stylers: Giovanni mousse, TIGI Curls Rock amplifier (a-cone), Curls Rock Strong Hold Mousse
Gels: SCC spray gel

I think about how much work it is to straighten my hair and I actually like taking care of my hair
How healthy it is

I'm really trying to get my hair healthy, and I've noticed lately it's been growing much faster (Which is awesome!) Plus, it's A LOT less work. It's such a pain to straighten my hair and just takes way too long. I can't tell you how nice it is to just hop out of the shower and not have to worry about messing with my hair.

And like the posts above, I do look so boring with straight hair. I feel like everyone wants straight, perfect hair- but I'm happy with who I am.

I just love curly hair! Don't get me wrong I still straighten it but only once a month or so. It really can be pretty once you learn how to control curls
Because I got sick of the Canadian weather. And my hair is healthier

2c/3a mix. Low Porosity, Coarse, Mid-back length when curly, Mod CG, Loreal Eversleek: Sulfate/ Silicone free Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep conditioner (Weekly), Leave in Conditioner, Frizz Serum,
Garnier Frutcus Pure Clean: Gel and Frizz control.Live clean Exotic Necter Argan oil spray regularly.

I alternate use of products and use both Shampoo and Conditioner daily. Have been mod- CG for approx. 5 months. Straighten aprox once every 2 weeks. Thinking of going full CG.
Oh yea I can't try new products on my straight hair
Once you find what works for you, and your taste, I feel curly hair is so attractive and compliments us. That's why our hair is naturally that way! It's so versatile, and when I wear my hair curly, weather and water and sweat and normal natural things don't affect it so much. Plus when I straighten my hair, no matter how healthy it looks and feels and is when it's curly, it always looks less healthy and drier and all that when it's straight. Plus, I'm not knocking straight hair...but it's personally very boring, and plain, and generic. Why I used to straighten my hair everyday, I have noooo idea. Curly hair is unique. And makes us stand out.
bobby likes this.
My motivation is that im different in school not the same boring straight hair (even though sometimes it can be easier to have).
Oh yea how big I can make my hair one day but have nice tamed controlled curls another
Personally, keeping my hair straightened is a pain. It takes about two hours.

But to keep me from straightening it recently was the 18 year old dancer from the olympics ceremony. Her hair was fantastic, and she was really pretty.

If she can rock it with WAY bigger hair than mine, then I can rock it too.
I became a mother last year and I needed something easier and faster to deal with--a newborn means no more 2 hour sessions with my straightening iron and I quickly got sick of a messy bun or ponytail. DD still has super short hair but the little bit of length in the back is starting to show some curling--which has only strength my desire to learn how to care for curls.

My mom's solution was a wet brush on wet hair yanking it through, while telling me to stop whining "it doesn't hurt that much"....IF my daughter's hair is wavy or curly I want her experiences to be much better and painless than my childhood hair experinces. I also hope if I know what to do, her hair will be beautiful and perhaps she will escape frizz-poof teasing and maybe she will love curly hair at a younger age.
Becca7, thais makes me so happy to hear! Can't wait for my own curly babies so I can do the same!

Well, I love my hair now that it's getting longer (SL even when I face severe shrinkage), and frankly, I have way too much hair. Straightening all my hair takes me about 3 hours if I'm lucky, and I'd rather not suffer the heat damage and/or buy heat protection products. Plus, relaxing it is way too damaging, and the last woman who did it completely screwed up my hair.
Hair Type: 3c/4a, Coarse, Med-High Density, Med-Low Porosity
Curly since '09
