What motivates you to keep your hair curly?
I never wear my hair curly because I don't like it and I always feel as though it's a mess. Family& Girls at my school tell me they like it but the boys agree with me and think it's a mess (no, I am not saying I think it's a mess just because the boys told me it, I thought it before their comments). I want to start wearing my hair curly again just so I can get it healthy but every time I try after a day I have a very strong urge to straighten it, like it's all I think about. Call me weird but It's like my dream to have voluminous, wavy/straight, beautiful hair. Is it just me or is there anyone out there who felt the same? If so how did you get past the urges?
Thanks for any replies

Hey I had that happen for awhile last summer I straightened EVERY day and after awhile my hair got really damaged but what motivates me now is that I'm growing my hair out to waist length to donate to locks of love or wigs for kids. Maybe try to find something to work towards involving your hair.

What motivates me to wear my hair curly is overall health of my hair & trying to grow my hair as long as it can grow.
As well, I have always loved naturally curly hair & now that I know my hair naturally curls... I'm excited. I have fallen on love with the volume in my curly state as well as my hair not looking so polished but instead fun & unorthodox! It's freeing to me. I don't have to worry so much about rain, getting it wet, or sweating after my workout. No hard work with appliances to straighten. It's just easier!!

It's like fighting nature for me to try to control my wave pattern; it's always there, ready to break out of the prison of straightness at any moment (I'm recalling this from long ago, when I used to straighten). Wind, rain --- anything could set it off, bendingm and twirling away where it always has and always will. It just feels better to let what's going to happen naturally emerge without a battle. I don't feel like me with straight hair.
Now, if you asked me the same thing about hiding my greys, you'd get a totally different answer, but then again, covering grey hair is a lot easier than fighting a wave or curl pattern, imo.

I love curly hair. Period. Plus with my huge head I look funny with flat hair.

Hmm, my motivation is that.. Well... At least over where I am, and what I see on television and such, EVERYONE seems to have that "nice, straight or wavy" hair, and not nearly as often, only a few people seem bold enough to rock their curly or even kinky locks!
So, me personally, I like to stand out and I want to be one who someone can look up to and have confidence in themselves to own their curls just like me.
Also.. That urge to straighten is quite strong sometimes but hey, go for it - just in moderation. The good thing about being a curly is such versatility(:

I used to heat style my hair every single day and wash my hair every day from 6th-8th grade. When I started high school I decided to just leave it curly and go CG because I was too lazy to spend 2 hours flat ironing my hair. When I started to wear it curly it was a frizzy wavy mess, but i nursed it back to health and I started to see big beautiful blonde ringlets form. Now everyone gives me compliments on my hair, and I'm known as "the girl with the blonde curly hair." I feel like my hair fits my personality better now, and I can stand out from all those girls with boring flat hair. Sometimes I straighten but mostly I'm motivated by the fact that my mass of curls is a part of me and my identity.

I'm motivated by the fact that I love my curly hair! I no longer feel the NEED to straighten my hair. If I ever do (which is maybe three times a year), it's because I want to.
My best friend was the catalyst in getting me to grow out my damaged hair and embrace my natural hair...he still tells me all the time about how much he loves my hair. I think that's also another big motivation: being surrounded by positive people who will help you love your hair!

my friends and family (except my brother) always told me that they liked my curly hair.
for me, it takes around 2 hours to straighten my hair, and i just don't have enough patience to take that much time to do my hair. my hair is also so thick that, without layers, it looks slightly off being straight.
overall, i just like the softness and texture of my natural hair. c:

For me its the fierce feeling i get when i walk around school. I can feel my curls bounce and in control. Also straightening takes 2 hours for me and it gets very tiring.

Yes, I used to straighten my hair every day but I wanted my natural hair again because of the damage. I give myself mini goals and spend a lot of time looking at pictures of females with the same type of hair I'm striving for (3b/3c curls that reach midback).

Honestly, I hated the whole process of relaxing and I never looked good. It wasn't until after I went curly that I realized that I'm not completely hideous and might possibly be appealing XD
Of course, guys have as of yet to notice this, but they are the slower sex and it's only expected XD
that and I love my curls XD everyone else does to XD I guess I was just made for them XD
And to think that if it wasn't for my laziness and intense aversion to pain I never would have found this out XD

I have the same problem XD My face is sort of more masculine than feminine so I feel like a man with flat hair XD

Keeping my hair curly is alot better than relaxing it and having to deal with the whole transitioning process which is a turture for me and flat ironing damaged my hair in the past so remembering these thing motivates me to stay curly

I straightened my hair for years. Finally I'm learning to accept my curly hair. I have 3a type hair. I found that I have to leave it in a towel for 20 minutes when I get out of the shower, then I use an afro pick (yes... lol) to pick through my hair. Then I put in some curl defining moouse and spray some Aussie Sprunch Spray in it. I have found that it's a lot let time consuming rather than straightening my hair so often and it's much healthier for your hair! Many of my friends and family admit that they like my hair better curly when it's short. Embrace the curls girly!

I keep mine curly because I can't wait to see it get longer!!! I'm starting to think that the more you wear it curly, the better your hair will look over all. And I've grown to LOVE my curls! I'm 3c ish, I have some looser sections and tighter ones, but the tightest curls fit around a pen, soo I would say 3b-3c, and an very tight 3c. 3's are complex :/
