Hmm.. I'm more of a 3c, but i have some 4a in there!
I tend to just stick with fluff and go's

but when it comes to new hairstyles, i usually turn to youtube! a really great curly girl is Naptural85 or mahoganycurls! check them out!
I have 3a so i don't exactly have tips on how to do various styles for you, but try some basic braids and buns the. Experiment from there. Master the basics first!

Curlformers give healthy, bouncy, shiny, prom worthy curls without the damage of curling irons. The narrower the curlformer, the longer the style lasts. The actual curl diameter is much larger than the curlformer so don't worry about looking like Shirley Temple.
I'm not a teen, but maybe this would help a little. Since my hair is still short and I like to wear buns and stuff I like playing around by adding braiding hair in with my hair for thickness or to make buns and usually come out with some cute styles. I'll attach some pics of some of mine and also others that I've found on the net that are pretty easy to do. With faux buns you can pretty much go crazy and get really creative because all you have to do is pull your hair back then pin the fake hair in whatever style you like then you can add cute accessories like flowers, peals or chopsticks and tadaaaa!!
