damaged hair.

i have 2a hair that is almost at apl. i am 18 and have straightened my hair ever since i was 12, off on on. then 10 months ago i got a perm, and 6 months ago i got the perm taken out. so my hair isnt very curly right now, and is pretty damaged. i trim the split ends off every month, and am trying to get it healthy so i can grow it out long. i was wondering if anyone had any advice to help with all the damage.
Welcome! What do you mean you had the perm taken out, you had a relaxer?

Unfortunately hair is dead so cannot be repaired, the best you can do is stop the heat styling and chemicals and cut off the worst of the damage. If it's splitting again within a month you are not cutting nearly enough off: hair that is badly damaged will snag on and tangle with healthier hair higher up damaging that too.

Some ingredients will help 'patch repair' (temporary) hair that is damaged but not bad enough to break or split, or reduce porosity so that hair doesn't get more damaged when washing. Beneficial ingredients include coconut oil, hydrolysed protein, ceramides and panthenol. Ingredients to avoid include sulphate surfactants (in most commercial shampoos), baking soda, alkaline soaps.

yes i had a relaxer. and i haven't touched a flat iron or blow dryer for about 3 months now.i try not to cut too much because my hair grows very slow, and im trying to grow it out. but i have almost gotten rid of all the split ends, and when i do see some i cut them off. im also starting to co wash because the length of my hair is very dry. im going to try coconut oil. thanks!
Avoid heat and chemicals, moisturise regularly, try protein deep treatment, and eat healthily for healthy future hair growth.
