Default Pixie cut?

I've lived my entire life tying my hair up into a pony tail and hair spraying it down because I hate my hair. I have 2b hair and its so thick and annoying in the morning. I really want a new look for senior year but I'm scared that if I get a pixie I might develop a fro. Is a pixie cut good for 2b hair?

I feel your pain, but trust me on this, with the right products you can turn the hair you hate right now into the hair you'll love. I promise you, just do a little more research, search on here, you will find so much information. A simple leave in and mousse can turn your hair around. I don't know anyone with wavy/curly hair that tried a pixie cut but I don't see it working out for the fact that short + curly/wavy hair usually equals POOF. Embrace your waves and curls! You won't regret it. I'm a teen as well and I was exactly like you, spent majority of my life with my hair in a tight bun and headband, but now I absolutely adore my curls and get endless compliments. There are definitely days I hate it and get sick of it, but trust me, it's worth learning how to love your hair. Good luck!

Well. I am sure that 2b hair is not going to turn like afro. But I think that if you don't like your hair now you will hate it much more as a pixie . You just have to learn to treat your hair. Do you follow cg?

Wow. Ok, I might not have "afro" hair, but come on: It's 2013 and you are publicly proclaiming a fear of afros on a website focused on all sorts of hair from various ethnic groups, including people who naturally have afro (African) hair .

That kind of audacity, and the fact that the seemingly adult posters above didn't point that out to a child OP is both bizarre and sad.

I think you're taking that a bit too personally...that user never said anything negative about afros...they just said that it is an unlikely result. You have to have a certain hairtype to achieve an afro anyway and imho i think the women who are blessed with that hair type are so lucky, its gorgeous. I'm sorry but thats a definite over reaction..they never said "omg no youll have an afro!" Or anything of the sort..like you said, this site is to celebrate all and every hair type and style.

There's nothing to be taken personally since I do not have that particular hair type. I'm simply speaking from principle here.

OK, let's take some time to review the OPs remark ...

My apologies, I thought you were talking about the person who replied after me. You're right. But I still dont think she was trying to offend anyone or put down the hairstyle/hair type. An afro doesnt work on everyone, only the lucky ones with the right coils can rock it. I doubt the comment was meant to be a rude remark, but again I see why you might think so. Sorry for the mix up

I agree that afro hair is beautiful . But I still think that 'Im scared that if get a pixie I might develop a fro" is not a bad comment about afro hair. She is just afraid of having completely different results than what she wants.. And maybe she just dont like afro hair.. thats not racistic.. Many people of my school dont like my hair because its curly and other people love it . its just different tastes . Relax.

No problem Sarxh. Also, IMO it's obvious you have made an effort to be accepting and open-minded when it comes to others' hair

Whatever the OP's motivation for casting a negative light on a particular ethnic group's type of hair (afro), I thought it was important someone speak to how her comment might be received by many African people here at the curly hair forum where she made that statement.

Many of us NC posters have witnessed all sorts of people making negative comments about our less than straight hair, even if just via the media. And so I personally place a lot of value in supporting all members of my curly family, especially here at NC.

That said, I'm in no way implying the OP is a horrible person or that I don't say insensitive things too (I certainly do). But it's important to speak up about it IMO.

PS: This post is also for David (for his edification).

I'm sorry if I offended you Korkscrew. I was just asking for any advice on getting a pixie cut. I didn't mean to diss "Afro" hair in any way. I was just asking that if I cut my hair, would it be possible for my hair to sponge due to the short length

As I said, this is mostly about others (those with "afro" hair) being offended by what you said. Those people - not me - are actually the ones who deserve an apology IMO - a genuine apology without the qualifier "if". That said, I've said my piece and wish no ill will toward you or anyone else on this thread. We all say insensitive things at times. Hopefully the hair advice you got will prove helpful to you.
