I tried braiding for the first time last night. (I had 2 side braids). When I took the braids out the next morning, my hair looked like I had a bad crimping job. I'm considering bunning it on top of my head tonight, but I already know what will happen: I'll lose my curl and end up with weird looking waves + 1 dent on the back of my head. Anyone else have these problems? Maybe it's because I'm a 3A and not anything higher?
I'll try pineappling with a satin cap on sometime this week.

braiding
I;m a 3A also. I out one braid on the top of my head. YOu have to WET your hair the next day to bring the curl back. Otherwise, it won't curl. Spray it with water in a spray bottle.

I have long(somewhere between bra strap and waist length), thick 2C hair with a little 2B and 3A depending on the day with side swept bangs, or was until a few days ago when it was over thinned and razored.. but that's a whole other story.
I take my showers at night, once my hair's damp I mix a little bit of defining gel, curling milk, and leave in condtioner in my hand and run it through the length of my hair(I like my roots smoothed out) and gently cup my curls/waves to get them to clump. I diffuse it and shape curls with my fingers until its about 95% dry, then straighten my bangs.
Once all this is said and done I seal it with coconut oil, braid the length of my hair in on big braid, pin my bangs to the side, and hit the pillow. I don't french braid my hair because my hair is layered, and it's a pain, but the number and sizes of braids varies with the size of your curls and the length of your hair(can't quite tell from you picture).
I get up in the morning take out the braid, spritz it with some leave-in(currently just watered down condtioner, but hey what ever works), and run a comb or brush through it(be weary of brushing your hair, my hair can handle it, most people's can't). You don't have to but I occasion have to touch up the curls by my face with a 1/2" curling iron.
Sorry, my responce was so long. XD I just wanted to be thorough.

I always wet my hair the next day. This is a must for me. Rewetting my hair didn't help my overnight braid-out. I'm confident it's because I have Botticelli curls, and my hair is thin, so when my curls are braided they loose the loopy, roundness that a Botticelli naturally creates, and instead take on a raggy and poorly crimped appearance. The crimped look looks great on some girls, but I am not one of those girls! LOL.

You might try doing two strand twists instead of braids. It helps shape/hold a rounder curl when you sleep, instead of getting the flat crimpy waves a lot of braids get you.

I sleep with my hair down. It's too short to put up or braid anyways. I just make sure my head's not laying on it, by fanning it above my head on the pillow.

I've heard of braiding it, I tried it and it worked, if it would actually stay.

I wash or at least wet my hair every night, flip my head over, scrunch some gel into it, then scrunch it up into a semi-messy bun.
The reason I do this is because I have really long (half-way down my back) thin hair that frizzes really bad when it dries. Plus, if I try to let it dry down, it doesn't curl as much (i think it is partly due to gravity or something).
So sleeping with my hair in a bun lets it dry in curls, and helps cut down on frizz.
In the morning I let it down and crunch a little more gel into it

I just braid my hair when I get out of the shower and wear a bandana on my head.

The pineapple
So I'm sure someone already suggested this but I'm going to tell you what I do anyway.
I used to just shower at night and then sleep with my hair down and it would be okay in the morning but sometimes it wouldn't. Then I tried putting my hair in a braid at night and sometimes it worked but over all I wasn't really satisfied with it. Then I found out about the pineapple, which is meant for second-day hair. But I just recently started using it for the night I showered and in the morning my hair would look really nice and curly and I got so many complements on it!
If you don't know how to do the pineapple here's what you do:
I typically let my hair air dry for half an hour to an hour after showering at night before I put it in a pineapple. Basically bend your neck forward so all of your hair falls on top of your head. Then gather all of your hair and put it in a loose but firm ponytail using a fabric-covered hair band. then loosen it a bit to the side and it will look kind of like a pineapple. Go to sleep like that and when you take it out in the morning (after getting dressed) you will really like how your hair looks! Just add some leave-in conditioner and you're set

Out (almost) Every Night
So, I've done this a few times before.
I shower, only using conditioner. I brush my hair in the shower. I dry my hair with a towel so that it is still damp. Then I put leave in conditioner in my hair, gel specifically for curly hair, and hair spay and I scrunch my hair with my back bent so my hair is hanging forward.
I let it dry like that and I go to sleep with it out.
When I wake up most of the curls are intact, but there is some frizz, so I put more of the leave in conditioner on the ends.
The leave in conditioner I use is sort of light and slightly oily.

Well, first I wash my hair around 5pm, so it is dry by around 9pm. then i bend over upside down and put a scrunchie loosely in at the top of my head and once im lying down i just have it going away from my head and sleep. In the morning I put some conditioner in, shake it about abit and its perfecto! Hope this helps!

I leave my hair down and it just turns into some big frizzy mess! It's the same after i shower. If i don't put moose in it it's just a ball of frizz. I have to at least get it wet every morning...

My hair never turns out good after sleeping as some people have mentioned. I have to wet it completely or "condition-wash" after sleeping and place product in my hair. Plopping makes my curls oddly flat and unappealing. The pineapple makes my hair have a weird bump in it and the extra volume at my roots is definitely unwanted. My hair is also extremely long (I recently cut off six inches and it is still about where my hips begin) so I have no idea if this makes a difference. I know this wasn't much of advice but maybe someone out there has the same length hair with 3B curls!!

I tried braid-outs,twist-outs,buns,even satin pillowcases and scarfs to bonnets. My hair always turns out puffy in the back yet glued to the top of my head or very frizzy.

@ Those who asked pineapple questions.
I do a very, very loose pony tail on the very top. I use a satin scrunchy to do this (and my hair is barely long enough). When the ponytail is piled safely on top of my hair, I don't usually get bumps (and since I have tight curls, the bumps are veeerrry noticeable).
Smoothing the bumps over with a mixture of conditioner and water seems to help. As does a light oil (for me).
Errm.. I don't get second hair that looks good. Decent, maybe, but never good. I lose major root curl over night, but retain the volume because of the thickness/density of my curls, which basically means a flat, puffy-looking mess, if you get what I mean. And once I lose the root curl, I can't get it back (it takes a miracle to get it there in the first place). Which is why I go for a curly ponytail, half-up half down the second day.
I sleep in a pineapple, or a loose high bun underneath a satin sleep cap on a satin pillowcase.
