I just finished the first one yesterday and thought it was ok, so I started the second one today, but, ugh I gave it up. I just did not see her as a very believable character and I feel like the author was just kind of making things up as she went.

It is YA though, so I should know not to expect too much

But I do love adult dystopian novels like 1984 and The Handmaid's Tale.

^ I don't think Hunger Games is as great as it was made out to be - no disagreements with you there.

But I've actually found YA to be some of the most creative, imaginative and well written fiction out there - you just have to hunt down the great ones!

By contrast, I've often found a lot of adult fiction dull and repetitive.

Im always on the hunt for great YA - do share some if you have any to recommend!

Have you read The Edge Chronicles/Bartimaeus Trilogy/Philip Pullman's Northern Lights/Cassandra Clare/Garth Nix/Percy Jackson?

Sorry to guano thread!

That's why I was hesitant to read Hunger Games to begin with, because I thought it would be poorly written and dumbed down. I disliked "Twilight" for these reasons and stopped reading the series after the first book. I still can't fathom why grown women would find those books so fascinating. Whereas, I couldn't put Hunger Games down.

The website Forever Young Adult is awesome!

I feel like I've talked about it on here before, but maybe not. They're always giving great suggestions... And they're hilarious, too!

I'm actually fairly happy with the casting choices so far...

But I swear, if Gale isn't straight up gorgeous... I'm going to be angry.

Do not want.

Hmmm I'll have to wait and see but just going off the photos they aren't how I imagined. Especially Peeta. I've never seen them in anything though so they may be very good.

Okay, I've read all three books now.

While the timeline of the last one did feel a little rushed to me, I still thought it was good. I'm putting the rest of my post in white type because it's spoilers.

I don't feel it's fair to say that Katniss was whiny or weak in the last book. After surviving two Hunger Games and then being used as a pawn for the war, how can anyone expect her to be assertive and strong under those circumstances? It took her until the last book to break down. I'm sure most of us would have broken down way sooner than she did because most of us have grown up with advantages that she didn't. Also, I respect Suzanne Collins for killing off the people she did in the last book because the whole point of it is that war is hard and that innocent and not so innocent people die. Also, I don't see Gale as an evil character. In the long run, his ends didn't justify his means but his intentions came from a good place-in that he wanted freedom for himself and his people.

LadyV69 - you definitely have some good points!

Have you guys seen the recent cast picks for Rue and Prim? I'm definitely happy with them! Perhaps they can help ease the pain of some of the less desirable cast members.

I sure have. I'm pleased since Hollywood has a long history of casting white actors in roles intended for non-whites.

I really can't say anything about the other actors cast so far because I've never heard of them and I'm not familiar with their work, so I really don't care. I'm really interested about who they'll get to play Effie and Haymitch because those characters are older and they'll likely get bankable names.

I don't thin Gale was evil at all. He was very strong-willed and lived by the rule an eye for eye. I think his passion and dedication to Katniss was great. It was depressing when katniss realized they didn't have eachothers back and even more depressing when he indirectly killed Prim. I felt like all his chances at his love just crashed down. Think about it....he was the one that watched over katniss's family when she was in the games. While I understand that she needed peeta to calm her down because Katniss and Gale were like two fires, I don't like how the author just said "He chose to stay in district 2". So I guess I kinda liked Gale, but not all his beliefs. Plus Liam is yummy lol. What other actors would guys have in mind. There aren't that many kid actors to choose from. And the guy who is playing Peeta is from Little Manhatten and Bridge to Teribithia. I think they made good choices

I'm reading the trilogy on my reader. I'm not too far into the second book but it seems to be a little slower than the first. But I think it's an interesting premise and the movie sneak peek they showed during the VMAs looks good. I wonder if the movie will only cover book 1.
