I thought this was adorable! From The Leaky Cauldron.

Quote:
In an interview with The Independent, Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler, who writes the A Series of Unfortunate Events books, the first movie of which is in theaters tomorrow) was asked what he thought of Harry Potter:

Harry Potter seems like a very nice young fictional man. If I were in the habit of befriending fictional people, I'd be happy to make his acquaintance, but the trouble with fictional friendships is that you tend to find yourself sitting in a cafe, talking excitedly to an empty chair. After several hours, the staff will probably force you to leave, even if there are still uneaten madeleines sitting on your plate, all ready to be covered in strawberry jam. Normally, if you were being treated unfairly, you could count on a friend to help you, but a fictional friend - even one with fictional magic powers - will probably just stand there with a confused and fictional look on his or her face.

Okay, I'm sure y'all are much smarter than I am and thought of this ages ago, but I was reading a fan fic the other day and a big went on in my head.

Do you think Harry was in the prophecy because he's the last of the Gryffindors? As in last descendent of Godric Gryffindor? Fighting against Voldy, the last descendent of Salazar Slytherin?

Now that the next book is just around the corner (finger crossed!) I'm really interested in theories!

I don't know.

I do think Nagini is going to end up being the snake he freed from the zoo, though!

Why would the prophecy have possibly been Neville if Harry were the last of the Gryffindors? It does make sense given his family was wealthy and lived in Godric's Hollow, I just think there's some connection to Neville, too. I was *sure* he was Gryffindor's heir before, now I'm not as positive. It'd make sense, though, otherwise why would we keep hearing as much as we do about the founders?

But Harry being the last descendent of Godric Gryffindor seems too typical. It might be true, but there has to be more to it. I'm not sure what though.
NetG what makes you say Nagini is the snake harry freed in book 1? It sounds kind of cool. Sort of goes with the idea of everything happening for a reason. If harry hadn't freed the snake, Voldemort wouldn't have Nagini. But then how come Harry could speak with the snake if the snake was Nagini. I thought Voldemort could only control him. Maybe if you give me your reason then I will understand. I really, really hope the 6th book comes out soon.

We haven't seen Harry try to control or even speak with Nagini yet, have we? There are all kinds of encounters in fan fiction, but I'm thinking I've only seen it in fan fiction-please correct me if I'm wrong!

Voldemort didn't possess Nagini, because the creatures he possessed died. So how did he control the snake? By speaking parseltongue, I would assume. But why did this snake let him close enough? Had it already been around people? I just have a hunch, no good proof. Somehow, I just think it's going to turn out to be the same snake.

Rats. You're right, of course you're right. And Neville can't be anyone else's relation, can he, or he'd be in their house?

Sigh. I'm starting to get excited for the next book. Reading fanfics again, tossing around what are apparently lame ( ) ideas... Obviously you have other theories, I would love to hear them!

Neville could be in Gryffindor even if he were the heir to Hufflepuff or something-just because he's an heir doesn't have to mean he's the personality for that house only..... I'd just like to know why those two are the possibilities!

I think I've shared my theories I have, mostly-that Ernie's going to turn on Harry, that Nagini may be the zoo snake, etc. I do think Dumbledore's probably going to have to die. I don't want him to, but sometimes I question whether he's totally good or not.

Oh, and I still question if we can believe in Snape or not!

I like your Nagini theory, I just don't know if it will come into play in the book. Maybe when Harry confronts Voldemort & Nagini is there. Although, in the movie, the snake has a male voice, and Nagini is clearly female. Not that I think the movies hold any credence whatsoever!

Harry's instinct about Snape has to be right, but that would mean Dumbledore is wrong, and that just can't happen. Can it? Or has his fallibility in #5 opened the door for more mistakes?

Anyone read any good fanfics they can recommend? I started one (that of the Gryffindor heir), but there were too many characters intruding inside Harry's head, drove me crazy. Too unrealistic.
