Dreamthorp. It was by Dean Koontz I think. When a book begins with a person's intestines getting wrapped around a tree... You don't forget said book! *shudders*

Northwoods Deep by Joel Arnold.
Scary, creepy, disturbing, uncomfortable content....
I couldn't stop reading it but some parts were just so disturbing.

I've been reading about serial killers for many decades so most of what I've read is disturbing/scary/gory/haunting in one way or another. But one of my favorite most haunting and unforgettable books isn't of that sort at all. It's called Meeting Rozzy Halfway and it's rather sad but riveting. I re-read it every few years and always think about it for a long time after.

Slightly guano:
I'm re-thinking whether I should read any of these extremely scary books! I saw a movie about the Green River Killer and it gave me nightmares.
I think I'll stick to Scandinavian murder mysteries which for some reason seem relatively bloodless so far.

I will warn you, there are some 'adult' parts that I had to read a couple of times cause I was like, I did not just read that! It stuck in my head long after reading it, but it was scary and I like horror books. I remember starting in 7th and 8th grade reading RL Stine (not goosebumps) and Christopher Pike. I would occasionally come across some pretty scary books in the YA Horror section.
I can recommend some more if you'd like, I would just have to get my Kindle. Theyre the cheap ones too, but I always go off of good ratings.

Some other cheap horror ebooks
The Grind Show by Phil Tucker - this one is a little sci fi but very good.
The Dark by Jason Brant
Coffin Cam by Phil Tucker - I was disappointed how short this was, but it was good.
None of the books I read are overly deep or involved. They're pretty easy to read. Life is complicated enough.

Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. Nothing about it is overtly scary or gory, but it's chilling.

Gosh ladies look at all these comments. I have some reading to catch up on.
I also read this book called Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker. I couldn't put the book down! And what's funny is the author warned to put the book down or else..... !! And that didn't stop me. LOL

The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold. Not scary but haunting in an unforgettable way. I've read it many times over the past 9 years or so and always come back to it.

My Sweet Audrina by VC Andrews. I know right? But it isn't a series. Its one novel and so creepy. A family who lies about a daughter that was killed under bad circumstances just to find out that they lied to the daughter it happened to. UPSETTING!
And The Perfume by German writer Patrick Suskind. So freaky.

Any book by VC Andrews was creepy!
I just read 'Princess' by Jeff Menapace. It was a 0.99 ebook and it was eerie. Super. Its really short. About 700 Kindle pages, so around 125 if it were a book.
