Just finished Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer. It's loosely based and a modern day take on the Count of Monte Cristo, which is one of my favorite books.

I'm reading The Scarlet Letter. I'd read The House of the Seven Gables ages ago and really liked it, but somehow missed this one. I'm trying to read more classics lately with my usualy fantasy and mystery books.

I'm reading Water for Elephants. I am really enjoying it. Can't believe how quickly the pages fly by.

Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld

I've always enjoyed movies and stories that took place in boarding schools...this book was about one girl's 4 year experience at a boarding school. This book brought back a lot of high school memories...a very enjoyable read!

My boss has been out of the office for the past couple of weeks, so I've been catching up on my reading.

"Life of Pi" by Yann Martel.
I struggled thru the 1st few chapters. Too much description of everything. It ended up being a very good book.

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini.
I cried several times while reading this.

"The Glass Castle" by Jeannette Walls.
This is a true story and a great book.

I just finished reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It was probably one of the best books I've read in a long time! I didn't want it to end.

Hi. I'm new here. Anyone else enjoy science fiction? I just reread Kindred--my favorite book. Any science fiction suggestions?

Just finished 'The Book Thief' by Markus Zusack which was really good, and have started 'Q & A' by Vikas Swarup which is what the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' was based on and is also very good.

Good to hear! I heard about it being a great book somewhere else (actually, maybe on nc.com...) so I got on the waiting list for it at the library, and I just got a notification that it's being held for me...yay!

Oh my gosh I'm excited about this thread! I work at a call center so I read a lootttt this summer!

The Shack was amazing.
I also read 90 Minutes in Heaven --I love spiritual books like those

Also read The Art of Racing in the Rain... INCREDIBLE book my boyfriend bought me. I read it in a day, it was amazing.

The last but certainly not least
"Same kind of different as me" --had me crying for about the last half of the book, it was soo good.

If anyone knows of an inspirational/religious books.. I love reading about journeys with faith, etc. I always appreciate a good recommendation

I do reviews for amazon so have had the chance over the past several months to get some great books..different genre's.

My favorite new series is "The Hunger Games" series by Suzanne Collins. This series is amazing. I got an advanced reader copy a while ago of the new book out tomorrow and it was outstanding -- it seems science fiction type I guess. Kind of Survivor meets 1984...I don't know another way to describe it. I was mesmerized and read it straight through! Not my normal genre at all (mostly read detective/mystery/suspense)

I liked another author (although the book isn't out yet the earlier ones are..so I want to read them) named James Swain...the series is suspense. The one I finished is The Night Monster and it looks like it will be out September 15. I can really recommend it...It kept me up all night just to finish it!

If you like funny stories Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series cannot be missed. I'm re-reading those. You know that saying I laughed so hard I peed my pants..well, turns out, that can really happen. Who knew? HaHa

If you like mythology mixed with Harry Potter type stories I recommend The Olympians by Riordan (I think)..excellent series. My daughter and I just finished it and we loved all 5 of them!

The Book Thief is on my list..as soon as I get through the ones I still owe reviews on for amazon. I review for another website too but am caught up there...mostly e-books from that one though (of the more romance type)

Great topic!

OOh reviving a great thread!

I just read all three of the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger (the books are called Soulless, Changeless, Blameless) and I loved them.

And I literally just started The Secret History of the Pink Carnation and I don't want to stop. Good stuff.
