I miss NC.com

^ Right.

Maybe I worded that confusingly?

I meant she could create a FB alias to join the FB group. (Since for this person totally anonymity was important, I was trying to demonstrate how she could still do the FB thing.)

As the mods are not a part of the administration of NC.com, we will have to defer to them regarding your concerns about their direction and/or opinion of the message board. I have alerted them however.
I think the mods are just doing their job from keeping non "trolls" from violating the rules. A lot of members here push them and then are upset when their behavior is corrected. (; There are rules everywhere, including NC.com, it's just like people getting upset when they get a parking ticket. They violated traffic laws, therefore they are penalized. Makes sense to me.

And there are a number of reasons the boards are dying so don't just denounce my reason because you don't agree. It's just as valid.

My opinion may not be a popular one, but it is my opinion.

Except that's not at all the way it's gone done, but ok.

For example, the knee-jerk closing of a thread that was about sex, then the subsequent back-tracking. The knee-jerk banning of golden curly and others, as well. The sudden, "no etsy links in signatures!" even though there are plenty of etsy links that are still alive and well in the knitting thread.

No one is trying to say that the mods shouldn't enforce the rules. People are trying to say that the inconsistent moderation, coupled with knee-jerk bannings and thread-closings, is a problem that has killed the community.

But since you've been here for 4 months, you probably know better than the rest of us.

I've been lurking or have multiple accounts, so take that cattiness somewhere else.

I'm just looking at the situation from a different angle and looking at all possibilities. I'd appreciate it if we could all act like the adults we are and not 15 year olds please?

Anyways, the point you made about the sex topic being locked was a good one. And yes the banning of GoldenCurly was sad, but life is unfair things happen and people move on. Just like how people move on from nc.com.

I love nc.com and don't plan on leaving it anytime soon. Why don't we all make the best of each other's company and keep the boards as alive as we can?

This is really sad. I don't go on the non-hair board all of the time but when I have it was always great to jump into any variety of discussion. I miss some of the folks who have gone away either temporarily or permanently. One thing I have learned is that when you want action on something, you have to ask for it. So whatever it takes to get the TextureMedia folks to take notice of this downward spiral, those who love this board should try to do. I will see what I can do also.

^ Standard board etiquette (not just here, but all Internet discussion boards) suggests not posting on heated topics until one has had a chance to establish oneself in the boards in less dramatic ways.

In going against this common sense approach, one risks the strong likelihood of being labeled a troll. It may seem unfair, but that's just how boards work.

I wasn't pushing any rules

and... I was banned.

Since it didn't happen to you, it's easy to say that what happened to GoldenCurly was merely "unfortunate". I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to post here, but please know that there is more to the story than what you know.

If I had been pushing the rules and behaving badly, ok. But that's not what happened and that is not what we are talking about at. No one is suggesting that the mods let us run wild. We just want rules that are clear and enforced consistently.

For me, things took a turn with the "Thug" comment. With this latest turn of events, well the board will never be the same again. I appreciate those who left when GC and I were banned. That fact that so many took a stand is part of the reason why I come here. I've made friends here. Real friends. In person and online. And I'm sure that there are people here who could care less or don't have an opinion about me who have also left or are a part of the other board(s). This isn't about cliques or drama. As the title suggests, this is about missing the way things used to be.

Since I am posting this in feedback, I am posting this complaint within the allowances of the rules.

Yes, it was exactly what I said unfortunate and unfair just like how a lot of things are unfair and unjust. It didn't happen to me, but I deeply sympathetize with you.

Never said it was about cliques or drama, but simply suggested it could be a contributing factor to the inactivity along with many other things.

Again, I'm looking at it from different angles, so there's no need to attack or gang up on me just because of a thought I put out there. (Not pointing any fingers or making accusations)

I don't think we are trying to gang up on you. This thread was started because of a particular incident. So if we all know the incident, were a part of the incident, talked about the incident, are the ones who left after the incident, talked about why we left after the incident, know why we formed another board after this last incident, I think we all just think it odd for someone to tell us that that's not what happened.

To your original point: Are there issues with the board and could a newcomer find it difficult to join heated conversation, sure, but that's not what this topic is about. That's a different topic
