I miss NC.com

Like Tree151Likes

I've been here since 2004 and I post fairly often, but I don't know of an incident, or that different boards were formed because of an incident. I don't think I even saw a thread that involved an incident. So no, I guess everyone doesn't know that an incident occurred or why other boards were formed.

Which is why I personally assumed they just formed due to evolution of the forum and not because of something.
Hmm, okay. How do I approach this?

What's that point of moping about how things have changed? The one things that never changes is change. Instead of mourning over users who have moved on from nc.com and past incidents, why not try to make the best of what's right infront of you? Moping won't make people come back or convince the administration to change things back, or stop the mods "reign of terror". A little encouragement of newcomers would be nice and people wonder why users log on once and never log on again.

I don't understand why older users feel so entitled on this website, it amuses me. I don't underatand what they're getting out of it, nobody is getting paid or promoted. It would be nice if some women could be more accepting and open to other people's opinons, reasoning, etc and gently provide a counterargument. I've encounter several women who took things so personally on different topics and they all pulled the "I've been here longer than you card". Lol, I'm so over it. No one cares how long you've been here, nc.com whole motive is to attact new people.

In response to you : I wasn't denouncing what happened nor saying that it didn't happen. I don't understand why you insist that's what my post was about. My post had nothing to do with that, what happened is the last thing I'm worried about. Good lord.

I've been here a few years, and I won't participate in the non-hair boards anymore. I've been involved in too many bloodbaths. It really did scar me. The unbelievable amount of nastiness in some of the more controversial threads was just too much for me. Apparently, I don't have the stomach for it. I do miss the MIA members who were kind and/or civil to me even if they disagreed with me.

I also suspect that the new management doesn't want potential new customers scared off by the war-zone like atmosphere around here, and that may be, in part, why moderation is tighter now.

I'll be honest and say that I'm glad that they are more tightly moderating this forum (although I'm not saying I agree with every banning/thread lock. I don't), but it wouldn't have come to that if members had moderated themselves better. Anyway, it seems more civilized around here lately, which is good in my book.
2C/3A, fine, higher porosity.
I think the mods are just doing their job from keeping non "trolls" from violating the rules. A lot of members here push them and then are upset when their behavior is corrected. (; There are rules everywhere, including NC.com, it's just like people getting upset when they get a parking ticket. They violated traffic laws, therefore they are penalized. Makes sense to me.

And there are a number of reasons the boards are dying so don't just denounce my reason because you don't agree. It's just as valid.

My opinion may not be a popular one, but it is my opinion.

You're correct that it wasn't *purely* the two recent bannings, but the overall stifled atmosphere, and the bannings were the last straw.

No proof that I have or haven't violated this. I was just making a point.

This used to be a strong community. Some of us bickered like brothers and sisters and didn't get along. But many of us mourn the loss of a long time poster who hadn't posted since you joined, because she was one of us, someone we cared about. New folks are welcome into the community, of course, and some legit posters have been accused of being trolls at first but stuck around. Much more often someone wasn't accused of being a troll and turned out to be one, though. Trolls make it pretty unpleasant, and for a while there many of us felt unsafe posting because of some trolls who kept popping up. We are upset and doing our best to shout from the rooftops why we are upset because the mods and powers that be WILL NOT LISTEN. We miss our community, and hate that this has become corporate. We keep stating our opinions and coming back in hopes this site can rebuild into a community again. I'm pretty sure the other forum which anyone is welcome to join would disappear if the moderators stopped the random rule changes and unannounced bannings, disallowing us to link to etsy but letting us link to sales ads all over the place as long as it wasn't someone from the community who we wanted to support, disappearing threads, etc. Those of us who come back here at all want to see changes back toward the community this used to be, and see a direct correlation between the changes in moderation and our feeling alienated. I'm rarely here, and mostly just check this thread in case there is a post indicating someone is listening and actually cares. Instead Guide22 posted and basically punted - refusing to take any responsibility for knee-jerk reactions on his/her part which have been the largest contributing factor to tearing apart this community that I have seen. Now I don't know who Guide22 is - it could be a poster who I really enjoy when that individual posts under his/her username, but as a mod, I have major objections to the direction the moderation has gone.

Thank you Net G. It has been explained to me and I think I'm caught up. I really was not in the loop at all. I had no idea about most of this. Due to personal situations, I'm either active on the board or gone completely. I haven't kept up with lurking. Apparently some things happened while I was 'off' and I wasn't aware of most of them. I think its assumed by most people that I was aware of this, but I was not.

I'm offended that you would say I came in here attacking people, I gave my opinion and people didn't like it, that's it and that's all. Perhaps some rereading would be nice.

These comprise a good percentage of the interaction you've had on non-hair. The African Queen thread is actually the first thread you posted on in non-hair outside of a cute, fluffy thread about Valentine's Day. Please show me where people were came after you or were being rude/catty/mean/bullies/etc.. Please tell me where you've experienced this vast negativity because try as I might, I'm really not seeing anything.

Bolded Two - I don't feel entitled, I feel attached. The men and women here have been with me for a lot, and hopefully I for them. I can think of a couple occassions when I was in the hospital with sick/dying family and getting a call from a curly. When my mom died. When my friend commited suicide. When my dad fell off the roof. When I started my business. Break-ups, make-ups. When I'm travelling and we've hung out. From the little everyday things in life to some of the most major events. I've shared things with people here that I haven't been able to share with people in my everyday life. So yeah, it did get serious for me.

But let's take a look and you can maybe illuminate me on where the bullying and cattiness you speak of occurred:

African Queen editorial

why do some people just want to argue?

Wanna discuss this Kim K photo?

why do some people just want to argue?

These comprise a good percentage of the interaction you've had on non-hair. The African Queen thread is actually the first thread you posted on in non-hair outside of a cute, fluffy thread about Valentine's Day. Please show me where people were came after you or were being rude/catty/mean/bullies/etc.. Please tell me where you've experienced this vast negativity because try as I might, I'm really not seeing anything.

Because some of you actually are, the whole sarcasm thing was annoying. I mostly post on the hair boards where I am civil with everyone and have made good friends. Some of you don't even touch the hair boards or offer help to other there, you just come to the non hair disscussion like this is MSN or something.

You don't like what I post? Too bad. I'm not going anywhere. So giiiiirl, BYE. (;

Whaaaaaat? I totally didn't realize sarcasm was a form of bullying. Shoot now I'm rethinking a lifetime of behavior.

Also the MSN reference made me giggle. And then sad.

RIP MSN.
