Coming Soon -- CurlTalk Redesign :)

Like Tree390Likes

Something else I noticed: the search function has changed and not for the better, I haven't yet found anything I was looking for even on the 2nd try after rewording my search, so frustrating! Before the change, I got better and more accurate results from any of the different search bars, and I believe that only with the exception of the "search this forum" option, if I entered a product's name I would get both the Curlmart entry and posts about it so I could choose what I needed, but now if I also want a result from Curlmart I have to go directly there, not very convenient... I really, REALLY want everything the way it was before!

i know i used to be reading something in curl talk, see a product and try and do a search on it. what comes up if you are in curl talk is only threads in curl talk about that product. the product might be in curl mart, probably has reviews, and maybe even in an article, but those things will not come up. and i really like to have ALL the info -- reviews, articles and threads. but apparently not anymore. altho, i THINK if you go to the home page and do a search it MIGHT all come up.
so now you have to be searching the website first before you can search whatever you wanted to search.
again, if any new person tries to do a search they will think there is no info or only limited info. i kept at it because i knew in the past there was more info, but if i were new to the site....... surely not a good marketing technique.

I'm one who usually did a search and was looking specifically for CurlTalk threads, not articles or CurlMart or whatever, and definitely not photos or user blogs or Q&A. The search change is an attempt to address users' wants, but I think better execution would have been to include a dropdown box within the search box where someone could choose whether they wanted to "search all", "search articles", "search reviews", etc. I disliked having to drill down previously, but I hate being locked into having to go to the homepage in order to "search nc.com" or the articles section to "search articles". Default should probably be to search everything, but I'd still like the ability to narrow the scope of the search from the search box itself.

I'm still hoping there are plans to improve the sorting function on search results. The first result in any given search is often from years past instead of whatever is most current. It would be nice to be able to sort results by date, relevance, and title at least.

i agree the sorting could be better, certainly should be by DATE automatically. i hate searching a product and having threads from 5, 6 years ago come up first......

Have not visited in two weeks so I was hoping to see some improvements when I came on today - NOT! It's hopeless trying to read threads where posts jump around all over the place for literally years. I was just trying to catch up on one where I went back one page from the end - since you can no longer click on that little icon to take you back to where you last visited! - only to find that on the same page there were posts from 2009, 2011, 2012 and for the past couple of weeks!

I agree with all the complaints here, but this is the worst of all!

I've just about had it, and if I were new to the site? FUGEDDABOUTIT! What on earth would appeal to them?!

Oh, and is it just me or does everyone get a Fatal Error message now everytime you try to go to RCC's pet thread?? That's unforgiveable!

It's been a month and not one thing has changed so I'll be surprised if it ever does.

I think what bugs me the most (beside all the white giving me a headache) is that every time I visit this thread I have to click on it before clicking on 'next new thread' so I continually see the first post that says "THIS IS NOT A CHANGE IN FUNCTIONALITY, simply a change in design so that CurlTalk matches the rest of the website's look & feel. All the icons will remain and do the same things. I repeat -- the WAY curltalk works is not changing! Just makin' her look a little bit cute." Well that's just not true.

RIght now I see that the bug being worked on is blocked people's signatures showing up.

THanks for specifying RCC Pet Thread, WurlyLox. I'll give that to dev team.

It doesn't work. It hurts the eyes. And clearly no one has any intention of fixing it or listening to the board members.

This is the most messy forum upgrade of any forum I've been a member of and they aren't all tech forums.

I'm no genius but don't they test this stuff before they throw it out there live? It's been a month and there are still all the same 'changes in functionality' that supposedly weren't supposed to happen.

May not be just me, but it's apparently not everyone as I frequently see updates to the pet thread in New Posts. Still, everytime I try to go to it I get:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 57889 bytes) in /mnt/data/codebase/nc40/frontend/www/curltalk/showthread.php on line 1275

Maybe not exactly the same sizes, etc., but essentially the same type of message each time.

Seriously? Not one thing done to fix any of these problems over a month later? Or even a hint that it might be fixed one day? Communication, people!

1. Too much white! Too much open space. No distinctions or borders around things. It's all a blur!
2. Too many steps to get to and from New Posts.
3. No dates and times of posts. The whole 4 hours ago or 2 days ago thing is of no help.

Seems so. Again...what are the options? Any other curly type hair forums/discussion groups. Options are good.
I can't answer any of the questions you are asking, but I can tell you what do know. The techs works on both Naturally Curly and Curly Nikki. Technical issues for the sites come first, then projects that are prioritized by management, after that is everything else. All I can ask is that you (general) please be patient. You( general) have been heard. It may very well take a few months to address some of your requests, some may not be able to be done. This post is based on the limited knowledge that I have.

Guide63
Thanks for the update G63. Is it possible for a tech to chime in though and update?

I've worked on enough sites that some if these issues are pretty simple fixes. I understand getting the major issues dealt with first, but colour and layout are not month long projects. If those issues are driving people away, and maybe worse, deterring new ones, those things should maybe get bumped up a bit.
