It seems to be happening again. Tons of threads showing up in my User CP as unread but they've been read, some older ones too.

I don't think the "new posts" button is working either.

Used to be if I posted something, afterwards I could hit "new posts" to get the running list of currents posts up again. And always the thread I had commented on would be right up there, because it had a new post [mine].

That doesn't happen anymore. Weird.

Maybe the database needs a goose?

We had this problem before, and it was fixed for a while.

The 500 posts showing up is happening again, too, even though there are only somewhere around 80 new posts since my last login yesterday. That keeps me from reading the boards on my phone, and makes me log in less often. It *was* fixed, so somewhere in the 5 weeks I've been away it was broken again.

Ok. I'll try something else. Tried one thing last week; that didn't work! Shoot!

Nope. I still get 500 posts, and still don't see my own posts unless someone else replies after me.

Still seeing both of these things...

Any fixes in sight?

Me too. It's been about two months. Started in mid February.

Bump.

Can we just go back to how it was prior to last August?

(Kidding. Mostly.)

It seems like it's trying to keep track of what we have and haven't read, instead of what is new since our last login. And so even if it's a new thread, if we read it, it goes away on us once we open it, causing disappearing posts. Yet we still get 500 new posts and can't just start with new posts since last visit by going to the end of the list. If I didn't read it the 10 other times I saw a thread when I came to this site, chances are I don't need it pointed out to me yet again.

I'm not sure what do to here. I keep changing it to please some folks, yet others are displeased. If someone can parse out a consensus, I will adjust accordingingly. I'm sorry this has been such a pain.

I'm not seeing the read/unread issue. [Or if I am seeing it, it's not bothering me all that much.]

I am still seeing the updated post issue, but I'm starting to just live with the fact that if I post to a thread, it will disappear until someone else posts in it. Which isn't a bad thing why do I need to see a thread bumped because I just posted to it? It's not like I need to read what I just wrote!

At first it was disconcerting, because the old way reassured me that my post had "registered." But I've sort of gotten over psychologically needing that confirmation.

Interesting. I know I posted a response to this thread, yet it's gone.

I don't think anyone has ever requested that we see 500 threads every time.... and it's really just a big pain in the rear that it's what we get. That's the biggie that I wish you would fix, because trying to deal with figuring out what the posts are since my last visit is the #1 reason I rarely come here anymore. It shouldn't be hard to use a message board, yet that's what this format does.

The disappearing threads thing is another one I'm pretty sure no one has ever asked for. I speak only for myself when I say I regularly post, then realize I didn't put my full thought and want to go back and edit. Since any thread we've viewed disappears, it means I can't go back and do that. Same with if I realize I want to comment on a thread I've looked at - it's invisible and I can't find it once I've navigated away from the thread. I just don't see the possible benefits of either of those things.

I'm not having read/unread issues right now, either. Those just come and go, whatever tweaks you make.

I agree. It was much nicer when you clicked on new posts and you only saw the new posts. It let you know how many there would be to possibly go through. It frequently tells me that there are threads that don't have new posts, but there are posts that I haven't read. It's often inaccurate, because I've read the posts. Or, I didn't read the posts because I didn't care about the thread. IMO, the old way was less confusing.

My every-two-month check-in to see if the board will be more usable, and any thread I post in still disappears, and I still get 200 threads.

Every other board I go to gives me posts since last visit, not just posts I haven't read at some point in history. I'm pretty sure that would take up a whole lot less server space, too, rather than merely being convenient enough that it wasn't a total pain for me to attempt to visit these boards. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'm sorry it's still not working for you, Net. I'll have another look.

Are you saying when you're here: http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/ and you click on, say, Non-hair discussion, you see 200 threads listed?

Nope. I have the "new posts" link bookmarked. But I don't get posts updated since last visit (which is how every other board I go to works), instead I get the 499 most recent posts I haven't read yet. (I typo-ed when I said 200)

With no clue where the recent history starts, it's just a chore to try to visit the boards now. The other boards I visit, I can drop in, do a quick "recently updated threads" search, and see the 3 or 4 pages of new threads, rather than 20 pages of threads, some of which are new, some of which aren't.
