*bump* i had the same idea so i searched on here lol
the wikihow is definitely informative (that was one of the first things i looked at when i went cg)
but i think we can develop a whole 'wikicurl' as a division of naturallycurly and it will have everything related to CG. ingredient lists, good/bad ingredients, explanations on the pros/cons of -cones etc, methods (icequeening, sotc etc.)
alot of the information can be found by using the handy google box above and on different member sites. but it would be nice to have it in one package that everyone can contribute to. this can eliminate repetitive threads (and newb questions by me)

This would be so cool!!!!! I wrote the wikiHow page, and would definitely help out with this. Maybe I'll look into starting it. But yeah anyone who wants to help with my page is welcome. Or if you have any feedback just PM me.

It would be nice if they'd would either put a wiki on THIS SITE or link to one from the links across the top.

I agree. But even if they don't link to it we're pretty good about spreading the news, if not through the forums then through blogs.

Anyways, I was thinking about this and I realized we might just be able to use a preestablished wiki. I've already made two curly hair wikiHows:
http://www.wikihow.com/Follow-the-Cu...for-Curly-Hair
http://www.wikihow.com/Plop-Your-Hair

I'm sort of tacking these along with youtube videos. (I plan to do a pineapple article next.) The only problem with wikiHow is everything has to be freely licensed and in a how to format. So how to do a deep treatment would work, but a list of product ingredients and their purposes would be deleted from the site. It is very easy to source relevant websites however. I tried to do that in my CG article. Another pro for wikiHow is that there is a well established community and it is very popular.

It's difficult setting up a wiki and getting it running, so for now I'm just going to keep using wikiHow. Not that I wouldn't LOVE a curlywiki!

Just wanted to chime in that this is how easy it is to get one going:

http://curlyhairwiki.wetpaint.com/

That site is free, and anyone can join and add to it. You can make as many pages as you want, etc. I played around with it for one afternoon, but imagine how good one could be with a collaboration. Anyhow, I know there is someone here who is designing a more professional site, but this is another option in case it doesn't get off the ground.

Heehee I've also been experimenting:
http://curlyhair.wikia.com/

The great thing about wikis is that you can import freely licensed photos (GFDL) and text without worrying too much about copyrights. They don't exist--the pages just need to be attributed!

I think any curlies interested in contributing out a wiki should sort a few things out first. I edit full time on wikiHow as an admin, so I have some experience, and these things are best done as a community. So please answer these questions. pretty please

1. Which free site would be best to use? Loewin has created a wiki on wetpaint, morrighu has as well on a different site, and mine is on wikia of course.

Any other sites besides these three?

2. What should the topic be? General CG or just curly hair?

For #1: I am a fan of wikia, because of the credibility and such. The wiki formatting is great once you get used to it, but it has newbie formatting as well.

For #2: I was thinking the broader the better all curly hair.

Those are just my ideas! Anyone else? I think if a few dedicated authors build a database of at least 20 articles we'll get lots more contributors and will create a lasting resource.

WOW! OK, big update. I also posted a question asking about how to start a wiki on wikihow's forums and someone has emailed me. He says he will host an ad free site if we have enough members and planned content. I guess he has a domain or something.

I actually bought a domain name to use on my own server. It's up now and I'm working on a pretty splash page for it. It runs on an enterprise level portal server. http://www.curltalk.net:8080

We're actually working on a wiki for right here at NaturallyCurly!

We'll look to all of you for help in populating it when we get it up and running!

Yay!

Feel free to move any content over from this one:
http://curlyhair.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

I stopped working on it awhile ago, but there are some good pages.
