I don't really know why, but I don't care for hair beyond waistlength (no matter what age the person is). Maybe in the back of my mind I'm just thinking "Holy crap that would take a long time to wash and dry!"

Lol, that's usually my first thought.

I think mid thigh is a bit "spooky." I like hip length though. That's cool with me.

I accidentally voted for shoulder length because I misread the question. I thought it was asking how long MY hair was instead of asking what length was too long. My hair is shoulder length and that's why I picked it. Whoops.
OMG!!! Me too.

I dunno. Somewhere along the line really long hair just gets icky to me. It turns from hair into just "growth".

That's what I figure.

Awhile before my hair went curly-- aka, when I was in middle school-- I had hip-length hair. I could sit on it if I tilted my head backwards.

It was a bit inconvenient (yes, I did have to be a tiny bit careful when I went to the bathroom ), but it was in good condition and I used to get lots of compliments. Everyone always either told me I should cut it, or that I shouldn't ever cut it.

To me, waist length hair is too long. Anything past mid-back is too long to me unless you're a 4 year old.

I guess it depends on the hair.

I've not gotten mine much past BSL. It just sort of stops there, or else I get tired of getting it caught in the car door and I cut it.

I have seen some pics of nice long hair on the Long Hair Community. But, in real life, all of the waist length and longer hair that I have seen is no longer attractive. It either has six inches of bad ends, or it just overpowers the wearer.

I recall a woman on WNTW that had long, long blonde hair. She refused to have it cut. It irked me as she was a self referral, but did not want to change much of anything. I think that there were plenty of others who would have been better served in that episode. Anyway, the first couple of feet of her hair looked great, but the last part just didn't look good. It was so long that it had no shape and no style.

As one whose curl gets less and less with length, I don't see how waist length and longer would flatter me, although it works for others.

I voted for hip length being too long, but it really depends on the person, their age, their body type, and their hair type. If that makes sense. I really want to get my hair to somewhere between bsl and hip length, but it's so short right now, I think it's going to take a few more years. (At this rate, by "a few more years" I REALLY mean like a million years .)

I voted for hip length. Anything past waist length would be more "shocking" than "appealing" to me.

I went for waist, I don't think it's flattering on anyone, regardless of the type/state of the hair, or the age of the person, to be any longer. Anything past bra strap is too long once you've hit your 20's I reckon.

For me, I'd never want to have hair that I had to move so I didn't sit on it. :P
Same, although for me, mine gets to be too much at BSL, as I discovered a couple months ago. Now mine's collarbone length; it was right at my bra strap and although my *hair* was really pretty, it made me look very unpretty. It depends on the person, certainly, but I think very few people can pull off hip length and beyond hair...

hip i think--i am trying to get my hair long and if i get it to hip it will be waist length. my hair is quite thin and will not get heavy but we'll see. who knows, i did like it shoulder length when carlos cut it...

There are exceptions, of course, but as a rule, I think anything longer than waist-length is too long. I have seen hip-length hair that looks beautiful, but that's the exception--usually it looks overgrown and ratty. Up to waist-length can look good, but really . . . if your hair is proportionately more than half your height, there's a visual balance problem (grin).

That's just my opinion, though! And naturally, age, hair texture, style . . . all these things make a difference....

Ugh--she was awful. She seemed to feel like she had won some sort of victory by refusing to get it cut (though any "victory" would have been over, as you say, the show that she self-nominated for--huh?) but she was the one who lost out IMO. She still had a negative, snotty attitude and she still had shapeless, blah hair. A perfect example of long hair that does NOT look good.

I do think curly hair looks better than straight when very long, but I still voted for hip length being too long. Waist length can and often does look good. Anything longer and as many have pointed out, I feel the hair looks dated and is wearing you, plus it often starts to represent a sort of lifestyle or fetish moreso than just an expression of style. Which is fine, and many men and women do love and appreciate super-long hair, but I personally don't see the appeal.

Currently using: Whole Foods 365 Herbal Mint Conditioner (co-wash), MOP Mixed Greens Conditioner, Paul Mitchell Lite Detangler, CK, ISO Bouncy Creme. Gave up on plopping due to tangles/"stickiness" and now I just comb through products and diffuse. It looks basically as good and dries a lot faster (I wasn't getting good clumps from plopping anyway). Still wish I were a lot curlier!

Me, too. When I go home to the parents' house in a couple weeks, I'll have to find one and post it here.

Just curious as to what others think.
I think anything past the bra is too long. It's hard to have hair that long with a style so it tends to be blah.... it's also really age-ing.

i agree that every individual can pull off different lengths. i had hair down to my waist when i was a wee girly, but now i think anything below BSL on me looks too heavy and starts to make my hair just look messy rather than appealing. altho i'm thinkign of gettingn long layers eventually when my hair grows long enough so i might have the longest layer below my BSL then the rest gradually coming up.
