My routine is mod bc I use low-poo.
In my mind there are 4 types of curlies.
1.) those who poo and condish with "regular" products (SLS and cones), with no knowledge of this whole CG world.
2.) mod CGers who use cones, perhaps SLS poos in moderation
3.) mod CGers that typically don't use cones, but do low-poo, and may use some non-CG ingredients on occasion.
4.) your full CGers - co-washers, no-pooers, BS/ACVers, water washers. No cones, no sulphates. May clarify once in a great while. Some may use an ingredient or two that are borderline mod, but most stay pretty strict.
Of those categories, I've been more of a 3. I do tread into the 2 zone from time to time, and am considering doing it even more right now! Lol!
Anyhow, hopefully that answers your question - the long way. Lol!
As for clips crimping hair - again I'm brand new to jaw clips, but I don't think they would cause crimping unless left in too long. "Too long" will differ from person to person, but I doubt using them for a little while when you are air drying or diffusing will cause much problem!

A low-poo is a sulfate free shampoo, right?
Today will be my first co-wash/no shampoo shower day so I will see how that goes. I feel like my hair would be really greasy with no shampoo. But I do want to at least try the full CG way.

Back to the drawing board...
So while in the shower just now I realized that my sulfate free conditioner I have been using has silicone as the SECOND ingredient after water! I just ASSumed since it was a very expensive salon sulfate free shampoo it would be silicone free. OMG.
Anyway, I clarified again and am having to start CG all over again. I am trying the clip method using the clips that I have laying around as we speak:

Oh, salon products are some of the "worst" about having cones!
It will be interesting to see how the clips turn out for you!! KUP!

Well...haha I certainly don't have better root lift, but I do have better root curl! Oh, and today was the first time using gel. I was freaking out because it was so dang crunchy (just like the 80s) but then I researched SOTC and did that and my hair hasn't ever been this curly. i was shocked that this can be done! Why are there people still rocking the crunchy hair look?!
I just wish it was more clumped and less little ramen noodle like curls. I think next time I will try the super soaker method for clumps!
p.s. sorry for the ghost face but I don't have makeup on!

Idk... You have some clumps in there!
What I do is comb out in the shower, then I comb again with a fine tooth comb. (With condish in it, of course)
Then I finger comb and let the water run down it. I scrunch in the curls (without the water running over it), adding more condish if needed, then supersoak that where needed (just by cupping my hands with water.)
I scrunch/wring it until it just stops dripping, then seal (tiny bit of LI mixed with oil), SM curling soufflé (small amount), then a cheap gel (LA Looks). Then gently scrunch with an MF towel to get the excess moisture out. A pee size of soufflé and hard hold gel gets scrunched into the ends and then plop.
Then the clips, etc!
Sounds long and involved, but it's really not. Lol! I'm just being detailed!

Today I did my usual Type 4 CG, all Deva stuff cause when I started CG I didn't even know you could use any other brands.
After I rinsed upside down I towel tried a little bit and the put in some b,lieve in it and then waited a short time, putti some Deva styling cream, scrunching all the while, and then some ultra defining gel. I almost forgot to say I did put a teeny dime size or smaller bit of CK
I scrunched with my Deva towel and then clipped the crown and the sides with my usual jaw clips and instead of plop (which I sometimes plasters the top to my head) I just let it air dry for a change.
My hair came out great. It was curly but not too tight.
It framed my face well,. It had root lift and curl balance.
After I SOTC it looked and felt like hair and I mean human hair, not poodle hair. I will go have another look at the CHS clamps but I only need a few and not spend too much.
I mentioned the jaw clips originally because I already had a few and thy
I started dedicated CG after a surgery so I haven't had a real CG haircut. I ordered my Deva products in the mail, all a stab in the dark.
Some stuff works Better than others but I'm pretty happy with today's combo so i think i will stick with that. I've had a four month convalescence so my hair shape is weird and I need color really badly but I am pleased with the potential. When it gets longer and shaped rights I think the best of the 2c will emerge. I love when it feels like hair. So I think it takes awhile to get results so don't give up.
It's taken me almost 6 months but its worth it and I'm use to it now.
Just a Deva cut for shape not length as its still short to medium and ill Be set.
Thanks to all for sharing the details you do.
That's how we all will have our own best hair possible.

But, but, but low-poo is CG, and BS/ACV (except as a rare, clarification process) is not. Really, it's in the book. If you think you're "only" mod CG because you're using low-poo, a sulfate-free cleanser, you're full CG by Lorraine Massey's standards.

Octopus clips are the pits.
You can't get them out without pulling out the curl its supposed to be holding up.
Plain old jaw clips probably don't even say jaw clips.
They just look like clips which grab your hair.
I can't get the CHS site to load clips into a cart for me, but I am pretty sure my plain old jaw clips will be fine.

Okay, so I broke down and ordered some CHS hair clips.
The video shows the stylist putting some whole curls in the, as well as just lifting the roots.
Results TBA.

Ok, jaw-clippers. Yesterday I used jaw clips and ended up with frizzy roots. :/
Now, it is entirely possible my hair is a little OC'd right now, or possibly not liking the cone I'm experimenting with (for the first time in 2 years), but does anyone have issues with this? I have used them a few times now and not had any real frizz issues until yesterday, but then again I haven't been using them for very long, either. (Was using duckbill clips)
Any advice would be great! Thanks!!

Just the smallish jaw clips. The type you'd use to pull your sides back. Got them at the drugstore, they are either Goody or Scrunchie brand.
I want to get some roller jaw clips. Hoping to at my next trip to Sally's.

I don't like the Sally's clips as they don't have teeth.
They have a bar on the bottom and I don't like that.
No teeth, no jaw.
It's really frustrating.
I have as many bad hair days as good ones, maybe 2-1
I am running out of steam.
I have an overload of CHS clips.
I'm willing to off some.
You really only need a few.
Good luck whatever you decide.

LOL at "willing to off some". I'm afraid NOT to try these so I can be satisfied that I tried "the best" thing for root lift. Maybe we can work something out in PM. I have no idea how many to use?

Wow your hair is gorgeous! The curl pattern is just very slightly tighter than mine... it cascades beautifully!

I use all 12 and I have 23 of them. I clip all over my head to encourage the curl pattern.
