Do I have the ovaries to pull this off?

Tomorrow night there's a screening for the film production club I'm in. We're having a costume contest and I was thinking about doing a curly mohawk. I tested it out tonight and I'm not sure if I can pull it off. (I realized that I have a lot of hair.) Here are three links to photos: one two three. There are no styling products in my hair, since I wasn't planning on washing my hair before class tomorrow morning. If I were to do this tomorrow night, I would definitely use hairspray to get it to stand up more.

What do you all think? Please be honest! I'd rather have you guys tell me I look stupid than to actually wear it and wonder if I look totally ridiculous. I can take criticism! I know this hairstyle looks kind of dumb, and I'm fine with kind of dumb--I just don't want to look megadumb.

Also, if any of you have tips to get it more mohawk-y and less Flock of Seagulls, I'd love to hear them!

That is hilarious! I thought the first picture was the best because it looked more 'narrow' in that pic. As long as you can make sure the hair all stays together instead of falling out, then I think it's a winner. What about some molding paste? That might work better than hairspray? But then again I haven't made mine into a mohawk before.

i think it looks great but the costume'll have to really accentuate it or it might look just a lil' bit bizarre. but definately go for it! dont forget photos of the finished product

I say as long as it's fitting to the costume, go for it! It looks pretty awesome! Like someone said if you can get it up there and have it be a little thinner than what it looks like in the 3rd pic, that would look even cooler. I have no assistance to offer though. Have fun, show us pics!!!

Black leather biker jacket, chains?

Hey maybe you could use some of that spray in hair color - make your hair multi color. It's like colored hairspray ~ washes it right out. they also make colored gels.

Unfortunately, I don't really have any punk-type clothes. Most of my clothes fit under either of the two descriptions "generic college girl" or "disheveled 1940s academic." I was definitely going to do my makeup to match the mohawk, but I was just going to wear normal clothes. I can't explain the appeal this combo has to me, but for some reason I like it better than all punk. I dunno--I'm still torn.

If you know anyone that can braid hair I would have them braid the sides up for you and then you can wear the top free and curly with lots of product in it to stiffen it up some

I voted "Maybe with some improvements" but really the only "improvement" I think it needs is to get it up and out of your face a little. I love the side shots--very punk and stylish. Maybe wear something like a plain black t-shirt, or some sort of film club-related t-shirt (actually the tank top looks good but it's probably a little cold for that) and jeans. If you have something that resembles a wallet chain (I mean, I don't and probably you don't either, but I'm just brainstorming here

), or a few pieces of heavy silver jewelry, that might be a nice accent without going too far into a caricature of punk. Definitely some small silver hoop earrings or something if you have some. Any sort of plain, not too baggy or "busy" outfit should look good though. JMO, but I like the style!

I used to mix looks, catholic school girl with punk was my fav. It's shocking and makes people look twice.
Dippity do and aquanet hairspray would help get that hawk up

I think it looks awesome... makeup is a must, and maybe wear it with the 'disheveled 40's academic' clothes. But with punk makeup, and an angsty, I-hate-the-world look on your face.

I love it. As a former "freak" in my town, (I really wasn't punk, but in their redneckedness they thought I was) there actually is quite alot you can wear. Layered tank tops would work as long as the top one is black and the unders are bold colors like red. You can wear just about everything as long as it doesn't really match the traditional style that that piece would normally be worn with. Like wearing a plaid pleated school girl skirt with boots and tore up fishnets. You could easily get away with a republican t-shirt as long as the rest of the outfit/look totally was the opposite of everything rebublicans stood for. Punk is all about rebelling, the outfit should reflect that. it's purpose is to make people uncomfortable, angry, anything that perverts (not in the sexual way) traditional society. My rebellion was against the football/cheerleader/popular kids. I would frequently wear a school spirit t-shirt which I had several, some tore up, some I wrote rude anti-school pride one (got many detentions for those, the school revised many dress codes because of the things my grp of friends would wear) while wear goth make-up, leather jewelery, shredded panty hose, combat boots (or my chucky high tops) and a skirt that didn't really match.

when punk styles became mainstream many of us laughed (tore up/baggy jeans) because all of us dressed that way because we couldnt afford new clothes. And our parents attempt to get us to look normal. "well Im wearing the clothes you bought me, Im just now wearing them the way YOU want me to."
