dry but soft - please help me troubleshoot

I've been at this over a year and my hair has never felt like this before. Please help me figure out what is wrong.

My hair felt very nice after conditioning and when wet with stylers this morning. Now that it's dry though it feels rough on the surface but is also soft (not brittle and there is no crunch). My curls have held but I have absolutely no shine. I also have a lot of little hairs still growing in after my last pregnancy and they're sticking up all over.

I'm thinking I either need more product or I may have glycerin overload. My dews have been in the mid-40s and I didn't have any problems with glycerin last year. I used products with lots of glycerin this week so I'm thinking I may have used too much too early.

Has anyone experienced something similar? I really hope I can fix this before Easter.

Overconditioning, maybe? Or perhaps a lack of protein - none of your products seem to have protein in them, to the best of my knowledge.

With the poofiness I initially thought overconditioning also. When I rub my hand along my hair it squeaks though so I'm thinking I need more moisture. And since it feels dry wouldn't that rule out overconditioning and need for protein?

Maybe I should clarify what I've done the last few days: I've been experimenting with the new Curls for Target line. I used the low-poo on Wednesday night, followed by the condish, curl cream & gel. Yesterday I tried the curl refresher (silk amino acids listed in the ingredients) and my hair immediately felt dry. I wet my hair more then added the curl cream & gel. Today I cleansed and conditioned with Curl Junkie stuff (DF, CR & BCLI) then used the Curls curl cream & gel again. My hair started to get a little surface frizz so I smoothed in a little CIAB, but my hair felt even dryer.

I just looked at the ingredients on the Curls stylers again and they both have aloe in them. CIAB has agave nectar.

I'm thinking now I could have protein overload from the Curls refresher or possibly aloe sensitivity? My hair could also still need more moisture after the low-poo.

I knew I shouldn't have tried everything at once and now I'm paying the price. I'm thinking right now of doing an ACV rinse and DT my next wash. Does that sound like I'm on the right track?

I doubt it's protein sensitivity - you don't normally notice that with the bits in normal conditioners, and your hair would be dry *and* hard, not soft. I'd either suspect need for more protein (I find that extra protein helps me retain moisture - meaning I need more than normal), or more likely, that the aloe is a problem. I don't know what the dewpoint is like where you are, but mine is currently making it impossible to use anything aloe-based. I tried to use some KCCC a few days ago and my hair instantaneously dried. It was *really* weird, especially as I can use it year-round normally. Sounds almost like what happened to you.

Thanks for the help. I think it's probably the aloe also. I went with my first instinct and did an ACV rinse last night and a DT this morning. Today I'm giving my hair a break and tomorrow I'll use my older favorite products.
