Whose hair grew considerably after they REALLY CUT BACK on the flat ironing?+++

As some of you may now, I have the kinda freakish curly hair (relaxed but curly). Anyway, I like the curly look but would love it more if my hair was longer.

I am wondering if I might see more growth if I don't straighten for a while? (I've been at least straightening once or so a week)

My hair grows kinda long, but then I always have to get the ends cut, and I wonder if that is from flat iron damage (yes I use heat protectant, but we all know how that goes, ends are ends!)

I also do my best to put the right foods in my diet, but am busy with work/grad school (thank God the second is almost done) that it doesn't always happen

Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this.

Am going to be testing CCC Lite when I go straight however (CCC Lite on wet hair, let hair dry, put on heat protectant serum, then flat iron), so if I like it, maybe this whole experiment will go out the window! LOL
It won't grow any faster since growth is fairly consistent a properly nourished person.

What you probably *will* see is more length retention. The less abuse your hair takes, the better off your ends will be.

Ends on long hair can be quite old. Shoulder length hair on the average person has ends that are two years old. Longer hair has even older ends, up to about 5 or 6 years because that is the average life cycle of an individual hair. Think of flat ironing once a week for two years, and you can imagine the cumulative damage. Unfortunately, hair isn't reparable. Once it is split, you cannot fix it.

If one wants to grow and keep long hair, one has to decide whether she is willing to limit things that will damage and break your hair, and those things vary from person to person.
Kiva! Microfinance works.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
i agree with rcc but i just want to add that i have seen a major improvement in my hair since i stopped flat ironing(last time i did it was in Nov) there was a spot in the front of my head that wouldn't curl for anything before but after not flat ironing for months it now curls about the same as the rest of my hair. and here i thought it was damaged.

I've also noticed that my hair is way more manageable now too. I have a rather loose version of 3b hair and it use to be really easy for the curl to become straight-ish and blah looking. I can sleep on my hair loose and everything now and though it normally doesn't look good enough to wear down (flat and out of place) i can still pull it up into an awesome up-do which wasn't the case before i stopped flat ironing because the curls would have fallen out over night.

point is that cutting down on flat ironing or stopping completely (my goal) definitely has major advantages
hair properties: low porosity, coarse, dense and predominantly 3b I guess

current products:
conditioner - suave professionals
leave in - suave naturals
stylers - shea moisture smoothie and xtreme gel

Since I went CG and stopped straightening (I still use heat to dry sometimes but I diffuse) it seems like my hair has grown a lot. It must have been breaking off like crazy before, I can't believe I didn't notice. It has gained more length in the two months I've been CG than in the 6 months prior to that. Also, I had some thinning near my temples that seems to be going away. All in all taking better care of my hair and doing away with the heat worked wonders!
CG since 2/23/10!

2B 3A mix, fine texture and high porosity at crown/bangs, normal elsewhere. I like protein!

Trying to grow out a short haircut.

WASH: Jessicurl Cleansing Cream (once every week or so)
CONDITION: Jessicurl Too Shea! or Aloeba Conditioner
STYLE: Jessicurl Gelebration Spray/Awe Inspiraling Spray

See that is what I think happens to my hair, it grows, but then I end up damaging the ends, so I have to cut them and thus lose the length.

Now that summer is coming this is a good time to experiment. My hope is to find styling techniques to elongate my curls without totally losing them (I can't touch or manipulate my hair in certain parts because I'll lose the curl)
