I figured out why I am getting ramen noodles and how to avoid - I think!

The answer is I need to use a curl creme rather than a gel or mousse. The gels/mousses leave my hair too hard and stringlety. I'm going to try using CJ CCCC tomorrow and after diffusing 50%, Ill scrunch in a little gel or KCCC for hold and continue diffusing. My hair needs softer products. There, there, pretty curls - I'll use gentler products on you.

Currently using the following 2 - 3 x/week:
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day suphate-free Poo, cone-free CO and styling treatment, plus KCCC

I hate feeling crunchy. I have found that going a little heavier on the leave in conditioner and a little lighter on the mousse gives me the defined curls I want without the crunchy. Some days I can get away with the leave in conditioner alone.
CG since 2/23/10!

Even though Dew Points and humidity are encroaching into danger zone, I'm using fewer and fewer products this month. I just want simpler hair, for one (and using more than two styling products strikes me as getting overloaded). I also find my hair stays cleaner and fresher longer the simpler I keep it, even if it means I may need to tolerate some curl loosening and some frizz.

When it's full-out summer, I will likely run screaming for product, hah, but for now, I just wanna stay away from anything that might possibly crunch me. I want my hair to feel LIKE HAIR, not like product.

I've never used a whole lotta gel, but I can see how that might cause the stringies.

I find since trying spirial solutions firm hold gel I dont need very many products to get great hair. On days I need hold brhg over it and I am good to go.

I honestly dont know why she calls this a gel. I use 3 big globs every time I do my hair. My hair is never producty from it. It gives me great clumps that dont break up even when I diffuse. It does dry crunchy but scrunches out easily without breaking up my curls.

Out of pure laziness one day...I tried emulsifying curl creme and a tiny bit of gel together before scrunching in soaking wet hair. It works great and really cuts down on the crunchiness! Although, some gels don't emulsify with Biotera Curl Creme...like LALSG, but HESMU works great.

I thought I might try this next: curlylew66 wrote: I mix mousse and conditioner together to create my own cream.

Please keep us posted on what's working for you and what's not!

Thanks everyone. I feel like I'm on the search for the holy hair grail and everyone's input is giving me clues.

kasden, very good idea! Maybe I need to MIX either mousse & conditioner or gel & curl creme to get what I want, instead of layering the harder stuff on top, if you see what I'm saying.

I was so disgusted with the ramen noodles that I threw out the Joico Joiwhip - now I'm sorry! I'm an idjut. You can see how mad I was at the hideous ramen noodles that I threw it out instead of stashing it. Oh well, first I'll try mixing the curl creme with gel tomorrow and see what happens.

Well curl cremes aren't enough for me and gels dry hard and can also leave me stringy.

So.......I love moisturizing lotiony types leave-in/moisturizers that add to my hair under my favourite gel. It dries practically crunch free and soft. No ramen noodles either. Just to make sure that I get my curls as percfect and clumped up as can be I'll use a denman or paddle brush and run that through in sections to smooth and give me nice clumps.

When hairdressers are asking me if it's a perm or a my natural curls and telling me my hair is gorgeous, I know I have succeeded in having a great hair day.

To avoid the dry noodle look, I mix curl cream and gel together in the palms of my hands and then apply. I usually use Biotera creme and gel from Sallys for this.
