protein and fine hair/low porosity

Hello dear curlies,

I'm about to make up a routine for my curls. I suppose my hair to be 3b, quite fine and having mostly low, maybe little medium porosity.
The probably biggest problem is my fine hair frizz. That's why I thought of a deep protein treatment once or twice a week, after a wash with baking soda, BUT: Is this protein load matchable with my low porosity hair? Or would it be too much? What would help my fine hair instead?

Still very confused on that. Since I'm living in germany, I try to deal with natural products which are easy available.

Added a bad webcam pic which still shows my little frizzy issue. Maybe 4 hours after washing.
Thanks for reading!

I by no means an expert, but I'd probably go with a moisture conditioner and slowly add in the protein conditioner....I have never had luck with any sort of DT. I usually end up overdoing the moisture or protein. I currently use the AOHSR and GPB (they are natural products) and I found those to work well.

My hair can take the protein heavy conditioners and I found this out by gradually adding them in.

Hopefully someone will chime in who knows more!

My hair is fine/low porosity. It LOVES protein. Never met one it didn't like. I do at least one protein treatment a week and sometimes two. Originally, I used the Nexus Emergencee/Emergency. I found they left my hair "hard" (as they should) and I needed to DT. Now, I alternate the SS PT and CJ Curl Fix as my main treatments (like the SS smell MUCH better.) I just use a moisturizing rinse out and it's fine. If I do a second treatment, I use the Elucence Moisture Repair. I also use a lot of products with protein. Just started using the SS Protein Spray and my hair LOVES that, too. (in addition to treatments) When I keep the protein up, I'm fairly frizz free. (of course, the product and technique have to be there) I don't use gel from Oct-March. I added it for a bit, the last few weeks, but now that the weather is back to normal (for this time of year) I stopped.

I NEVER "wash" with baking soda. I know that others do--it makes my hair "hard" and dry. Even if I add 1/2 t to a conditioner, etc. I get the best results from natural soap bars every 3-5 days and use CJ Daily Fix twice a month to remove any mineral build up.

I'm with Kathy on this one. My hair LOVES protien but even tho I do protein treatments I also have to use heavier conditioners to keep my moisture because I'm such high porosity. I find that hard water makes my hair frizzy but after I do my PT and DTs I still put a leave in and add a curling gel and then I'm frizz free.

Also I use natural soap bars for my low-poo and my frizz has dropped dramatically since I've been using them.

I agree with mogirl; add protein gradually, until you know how your hair reacts. It's alot easier to do that, than to have to deal with the damage protein can cause if you are one of us who are sensitive to it. After reading about everyone's success with honey, I tried a drop in my leave-in for two days. I'm still in the process if nursing my hair back to health. I've found it's better to err on the side of caution with protein products.

Protein tends to make hair "hard," that's why the DT after you do a treatment. Most of us don't need the really powerful ones because our hair just likes protein, it's not all that damaged.

Thanks a lot for all the helpful responses.
I tried adding some (gradually, since a few) extra protein and my hair responsed quite well to it, too. Immediatly had more volume.
Now ordered GPB and looking out for some natural soap bars.

I also think, that my hair may be overconditioned. Since I just recently found out about my hair beeing low porosity and still have that stereotype "MORE moisture" thinking.

And thank you, kathymack, for sharing that interesting link

I wish Spiral Solutions made trial sizes! I have bought and bought the last couple of weeks and hate having things that do not work. With trial and error have landed on what works best for me, but my fine hair and lazy curls might LOVE protein! They really do not like conditioner-it just makes them lazier!

Guess I am off to order the protein from SS. I can add to swap list here if my hair does not like protein as much as I guess it will!

I'm loving Marie Dean Vanilla and Coconut Liquid conditioner right now. If I think of more, I'll PM you.

I just read in another thread that you indicated your hair gets weighed down easily. I should mention that my hair does not get weighed down easily, so you may have a different experience with products that work well for me. It takes some experimenting.
