I don't even know what to do anymore.

My hair is always frizzy and nasty. When I have good hair days it seems accidental, they are so rare.

Every time I switch conditioners my hair looks great but then after a little bit it goes back to the way it was before: unbearably frizzy....

I just wish I could control my good hair days instead of buying and wasting all this product just to throw my hair in a bun every day.

grr... what to do???
Hair Type: 3b /3a?.... medium texture, normal porosity

Conditioner:
Aussie Moist

Shampoo: Organix Shampoo

Other products: Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam Mousse, LA looks Sport gel, & whatever is cheapest for a frizz serum.

That's why a lot of us rotate products. My hair satiates on product, so I seldom use any one product more then twice a week. I also change up depending on the season/weather.

HGs: Anything Sevi; Curly Kinks Satin Roots, Curlycue ReNew and Coil Jam; homemade FSG and okra gel; soap bars; UFD Curly Magic (now Hello Curly Curl Stimulater); Botanical Spirits Jellies, CJ Repair Me, Marie Dean Leave Ins and Curl Creams

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
I've found that I definitely don't need to rotate products, it's just a matter of finding the right routine. This may be just me though. (I'm all for saving money!)

A couple things to try...
- It looks like you're still using sulfate shampoos (if i'm not mistaken the organix shampoos have SLS/SLES derivatives), how about switching to low-poos only? Sulfate shampoos now virtually guarantee me bad hair days.
- Try using your conditioner as a leave-in, this really did the trick for me and turned occasional good hair days into frequent great hair days.

Good luck

ITA with CurlieTop. It's likely not that your products quit working for you - it may be that you're doing things that your hair doesn't like. Try out different techniques instead of products. I've found that the only way that I can consistently not get frizz is if I plop for 1-2 hours. If I scrunch dry - I get frizz. If I diffuse - I get frizz. It took a while to figure that out. But what works for me may cause frizz for you - you need to try different techniques on your hair type (and there are SO many threads on this board - super soaker, ice queen, pixie curl - all methods to try), see what works for you. That's all free - just requires a little bit of time, and what do you have to lose at this point?

Also, weather plays such a HUGE role. I can't get away with just conditioner and gel - I will get frizz. I usually need at least a serum (like Curl Keeper) and a curl cream. It took a while to figure that out too. I write down the weather conditions and the combos that work. So in the future - if I wake up to fog, I know what products to grab in the shower that morning. Once I find something that works, I don't need to rotate products - my hair doesn't get tired of them.

I always rant about the frizz, but i cant do anything with the weather of where i live, right now we have:
Temp: 100F feels like 115F humidity 44% dew point 75 F

so wiht a dew point that high, my hair just frizzes no matter what!
FayShirley likes this.
Very high dews (70F or more) and lots of humidity (above 80%)
3a/3b mostly, normal porosity, medium texture (I think)

Sometimes I use: TRESemme flawless curls shampoo
Co-wash: Suave Green Apple
Conditioner: Garnier Fructis Oil Repair
Styling: Flaxseed gel, shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie

Still experimenting...

ETA: Correction. Puebla. My sister-in-law is from Puebla, Mexico. And it's interested she says that it felt like a sauna because according to wikipedia, the temperatures are pretty similar all year round and no where near the 100 degrees you're experiencing right now. And it's further west from you, not north. I pretty much suck at geography, in case you didn't notice that already.

happycurls24, I'm soooooo glad you started this discussion. Today, my hair seemed to only be tamed by Aveeno Nourish + Condition Leave-in, without the glycern. The normal products made my hair tangled and dry-I've been using these product for years! But, the weather has changed so I'm sure that's a factor.

What everyone has said is true: now I have to find a routine for my "hair's attitude." There's always something about hair!
Mod CG-Naturally Highly Porous and Dry
This list is not exhaustive...
Pre-treat:various oils

Shampoo/
Clarifier:Malibu Hard Water Wellness Shampoo
PT: Gold Medal's Herbal Tame
DT:
Smooth Sexy Hair Sulfate-Free Smoothing Conditioner
LI/Detangler: various
Stylers: Lush Zeste Hair Gel

*experimenting and loving it!

I have to rotate product too. My hair needs different things from day to day. Some days it's light conditioning with protein (Robert Craig day), other days it's moisture (DevaCurl), and still other days it's both (Mop Top). The weather changes, I think, are why this is so. This is why I don't have a Holy Grail conditioner.

My styling products usually stay the same.
4a/b Texlaxed hair w/ highlights. Medium texture & high porosity.

HG's: CJ Daily Fix, Bobeam Cheris Hibiscus shampoo bar, KC Spiral Spritz, Knot Today, CJ Rehab, KBB LL Hair Mask, Cassia, KCCC, oil blend of Avocado, Camellia, Jojoba, & Meadowfoam oils

SL APL BSL MBL
Not sure if this would be any help, but my hair gets easily overconditioned now that I'm not using flat irons and lots of heat.

My hair started to get extremely frizzy and fluffy, that's the only way I can describe it, so I kept adding more conditioner because I thought "if it's frizzy, it needs moisture". Well, I was wrong.

I use an SLS shampoo and really cut back on conditioners. I maybe condition my hair 2x a week. My products give me all the moisture I need.

Don't know if that's what you're running into, but I thought I'd share.....I remember what it feels like to be doing everything right and nothing is working.
FayShirley likes this.
2c/3a/3b Fine/med texture, normal porosity, normal elasticity
