Default Eiiiikkkkkk! Bad DH messing with PCs!

My DH had his PC Magazine out next to his PC this morning...a bad sign. Suddenly, as I was doing some final touches to my Conditioner Chronicles, my hair products database corrupted and was attempting to repair itself. Baddddd DH! Don't mess with stuff on Conditioner Chronicles Day!

Anyway, I scolded him appropriately, got a backup copy, and imported in my new stuff from the corrupted copy into the backup (yeah, I'm a geek). I reminded my DH he isn't a PC person, has no formal training in PC upgrades and repairs, and should do nothing to his PC that he sees in a magazine, online, or otherwise without my permission. Ironically, he lost MS Word when he did what he did.

I had him roll back to a checkpoint (love anti-virus/anti-spyware/system maintanance tool we have soooo much more than norton's), and all is well again with him too.

Anyway, I just wanted to vent my panic and frustration. Anyone else have a DH who just can't leave well enough alone with the PCs?

Ahem. Sorry. I just could picture it sooo clearly. My exes, as well as my current SO have all been geeks -- dunno why, since I'm not one. Unlike your DH I am so overjoyed to have built-in, at-home tech support that not only do I have zero desire to perform any maintenance tasks myself, I am so lazy I don't even de-frag my own hard drive. And AVG is set run automatically every night b'coz left to me...it'd be done about once a month. So what maintenance tool do you use that you're loving so much....? And just a thought, but have you considered not giving DH administrator -- or even power user-- privileges...? Esp if you're networked? Jus sayin.

MY SO doesn't do it but will come home saying, so and so said to do this, or a geek I talk to says go do this and whammo nothing works right anymore. Oh why do I listen?
I've avoided all attempts to help me on this new pc, I'll just keep the quirks so my HD doesn't crash.

Man I'm glad the chronicles wasn't lost, I'd be hyperventillating and doing that high shrill voice

Oh man, does he realize what serious trouble he could be in?!? In our house I'm the computer genius (which isn't saying much!!). My husband rarely touches it.

He did however, touch my DIFFUSER last week! He took it off to use my dryer and didn't put it back on. I un-plopped and reached for my dryer...then went in panic mode. I called him at work almost in tears. He told me to look in the hamper...??? I found it in his sink drawer, stuck in the back. That man should know better!

The man is trained. He knows what he's allowed to do on the computer and what he's NOT allowed to do. He knows not to touch the hair product. He knows not to touch the skin product. He knows not to take my chocolate. He IS having a hard time remembering that the yellow & beige washcloths are for my face only & not to be used to wipe up spills etc.

The dogs on the other hand ... at least they can't use the keyboard, but it would not be beyond them to attempt to eat the mouse.

I was just re-reading this thread & LMAO here on the cube farm. Castella & Medusa, I just love you guys! Nothing like mad cackling while I'm sinking fast under a mountain of files in this huge, very serious fraud audit.

Well, this is certainly a timely bump! My once orderly household is in upheaval!!!

Not only did the man help himself to an conditioner from my hoard...apparently completely at random without checking ingredients or consulting!...but now he's hiding HIS chocolate from me. OK, so the conditioner was a Suave and he got off with a warning (and I slipped some other conditioners that I need used up in the shower "hint hint"). But the chocolate thing is unacceptable!

AND he bought a Mac. Which is faster, smaller & quieter than my pc. So now I'm frumpy PC Guy. Bitter and babbling about spreadsheets.

As for the dogs, one of them did partially consume the TV remote including batteries ( ), the other specializes in dismembering things with leather. So I find the fabric uppers to my slippers...but the leather soles are MIA.

Mmm. Maybe I should spray the intruding Mac with bacon grease, HA!

There is no place to hide in my house! I can smell chocolate at 100 feet! Oh the nerve though!
I hope both he and the dog are properly sorry now!

The funny thing is....I'm the one conducting the fraud audits. Imagine how stressed I'd be if I was being audited.

My collie is a socky bandit. She doesn't destroy them though, just takes great delight in utilizing that little snapper-snout (basically, built-in needle-nose pliers) to fish them from the hamper and then bring them to you triumphantly.

I've never lived with anyone who could say "Mac" w/out sneering, so I've never had one. I'm lazy. I want the built-in tech support. That means it's a PC world for me.

Ah well at least it isn't anyone auditing you, whew!

I've only used Mac at the college I used to go to. I prefer a PC that tons of stuff will work on. Besides if I call my father for help and I say I bought a Mac he'd hang up on me

Tell the dog to be useful and obsess on lost remotes
