I'm at a loss what to do with my hair this summer. Last summer was absolutely horrible. Summers in the mid-west with the heat and high humidity make for a hair disaster. My hair has already started to respond in a very ugly way to the summer heat and humidity. And, I'm tired of experimenting with products only to be very disappointed.

I know there have been some discussions about CG adding some silicones into their routine this summer. I'm thinking about going this route for 3 months or so. Any recs on products? My hair type, texture, etc. is in my sig. Thanks!
3B Fine (lots of it), Normal to High Porosity
Low Poo: Elucence Moisture Poo, Renpure Organics
Co-Wash: Tresseme Naturals, Giovanni TT
Rinse Out: Biologe Cond Balm, SS Deeply Decadent Moisturizing Treatment
Leave-In: Oyin Hair Dew, CJ Beautiful Curls,
Stylers: SS Curl Enhancing Jelly, SS Firm Holding Styling Gel, Jessicurl RR and CC, BRHG, Biolage Gelee
Extras: ACV rinses every couple of months
It's extremely hot and humid here in Kentucky, but I've had a lot of success with Biolage Gelee keeping the frizz and poofiness at bay. That's my suggestion as far as summer gels go. It is silicone free and does a good job for me in the summer. I use CIAB in the less humid weather. I limit my silicone usage because it makes my hair greasy looking.
3a/3b, Fine, low porosity.
SicilyCurl: I do have a bottle of this in my stash. In the past I haven't had any luck using it. But, I'm willing to pull it out again and give it a try. I'm located in Southern Illinois so I'm sure we are experiencing the same weather-wise. I just don't want to go through another summer like last year. I couldn't wear my hair down at all due to the major frizz and lack of curl definition. I've been experimenting like crazy with no success; that's why I'm contemplating adding "cones" into my summer routine. Thanks!

I started using Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In with a dime size amount of Biolage Gelee and that combo has helped cut down on the frizz and helped with curl definition. I know you're looking for silicone products, but I'm just throwing out a silicone-free suggestion that's working me in this southern humidity.

One non-CG silicone product that I can recommend is Redken Ringlet 07. That gives really great frizz control and curl definition. You could rotate that with a CG product.

I don't know if I'm ever of any help to people here, but I try.

I love the Redken Fresh Curls line-- the shampoo (with SLES, but it's gentle IMO), the rinse out conditioner, and the leave-in conditioner ("Curl Refiner" is part of the title of the leave-in).
The condish and leave-in have amodimethicone, which I find is very helpful in the humidity.
That's right, I said it! I wear scrunchies!!

I am a sulfate washing, cone slabbing, curly lovin' s.o.b. The CG police haven't caught me yet.

I don't know if this is considered CG or non-CG (there seem to be different opinions on this), but so far the best frizz control I have found is the Living Proof wave shaping/curl defining spray or cream. I prefer the spray because after a few days the cream leaves me feeling a bit producty. Plus I find the spray easier to distribute. Silicones never worked for me for frizz control, so I don't even bother anymore.

I'm all for CG products but am willing to try non-CG right now due to this frizzy mess I have now.

I can't tell you what a difference Sallly's Hair One cleanser for Dry Hair has made for me. It smooths and defrizzes it's amazing. There's a thread in the Product Reviews, if you don't like it then Sally's will take it back. No risk

I am loving my results with Aura Pure Daily Conditioner! You get it at Sally's and it's not very expensive. It has given me the hair I've been trying to get by following the CG method (which I've now semi-abandoned, due to my use of this conditioner). My hair is shinier, looks thicker, and has the least amount of frizz that it ever has. I highly recommend this conditioner!

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and recommendations.

I shop quite a bit at Sally's so plan to check out the Hair One that Del2C recommended (thanks) and the Aura Pure Daily Conditioner (thanks cfry). I've seen the Hair One line and was always curious about it. I do use the Aura Hypoallergenic Gel and really like it when the weather cooperates (which isn't much lately).

Boomy, I did use the Redken Curls Fresh line before I went CG and liked them back then. I may have to give them a second look also.

I'm also going to look into the Living Proof line. I've heard of it but that's about it.

Thanks again for all your recs!

Hello!

I see that this is a very old thread, but I'm also very interested in what will work with my hair this summer. I work inside a small little ticket booth so I'm pretty much in the elements (even the rain can blow in somedays) in humid northern MI, lol, and I didn't have any luck with my CG routine last summer.

Most days I ended up wearing a company baseball hat and wearing my hair in 2 long braids. The frizz would be horrendous even if I wore it in a pony tail instead putting it in braids. That was a "cute" look, but I'm kind of getting tired of it! I'm jealous of anyone who could wear their hair down in the summer time!

I have been looking into sealing my hair with a bit of oil so hopefully that will work and not weigh down my super fine, porous hair.

Good luck to all of us for this summer!

Yes, good luck to all of us! I'm wavering between CG, modified CG and using cones. I'm hoping the Deva Lo Poo will be sufficient to remove whatever cones I use, and I'll try not to use a lot of them, but the humidity and dewpoints in NYC in summer are hellish.

Please chime in with more suggestions: I wonder still about Living Proof No Frizz.

2/c and some 3A. Modified CG.
Protein sensitive
Highly porous. Color over grey.
Best 1st day method: Super Soaker
Conditioners: Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Conditioner,
Deep condish: Curl Junkie Curl Rehab
Stylers: Mix Curls in a Bottle into everything for shine. Terrible pj
Sometimes try roller sets - classic glamor but I prefer my curls.
Every day is a gift
I'm thinking that if everyone's hair texture, porosity levels, density, dryness levels, not to mention climates and dew points are different, how in the heck can we assume that this will work for everyone?

I have learned a lot from this site and from these forums so I'm super glad to be more educated about my hair. I look at old pictures of me and my hair and cringe so I've definitely come a long way, it's just the whole being outside in the summer humidity that's making this journey more difficult ~ for me. For my hair's sake, I wish I worked in an air-conditioned office but I love my job and I love where I get to spend my summers Mackinac Island Pictures (the 8th picture down is actually an old picture of me when I used to drive horses) , so I hope I can find a summer routine that works for me.

I don't agree with the statement, " If your hair is moisturized enough then it shouldn't frizz." Well, if it's too moisturized then it will frizz, or if you have too much build-up then it will frizz, or if you use glycerin in low dew points your hair will frizz, if you breath on your hair it will frizz! I'm literally going mad!

If you keep doing the same thing and expecting different results…you know…
