DevaCurl Set IT FREE How to use it and do you like it
Any advice on how to use this stuff? Is it a gel like styler? Do you put it on wet hair before stylers or after etc.etc. etc.

As the name implies, it's a setting spray. You use it AFTER your gels, etc. I didn't like it. I liked the scent a lot, but I didn't find it did anything other than, after a while, a sort of waxy feel.
But others like it fine and review it well, so I'm sure they'll chime in. You can do a forum search to find threads about it.

I wanted to love it! My hair is just too fine. It made my hair feel greasy. My hair is super shiny, fine and non-porous. I would think drier more porous types might love it! My kit said to use the gel, flip hair over and let curls fall naturally and then spritz with SIF. Diffuse dry or air dry an then final set with another spritz. It was just too much or I was too aggressive with my spraying!
Hope that makes sense and helps!

I used it as a finishing product to help keep the frizz at bay - a few squirts into my hand, rubbed hands to gether then smoothed over my hair. It worked really well though not well enough that I'm prepared to pay the p&p from the US.

A few squirts in the hands would have been a MUCH better way for me to use! It is the consistency of One Condition but in a spray bottle. To really spray on my hair, I need more of a liquid. Thanks for the tip!

I've had this sitting on my counter for several years, but never used it consistently. I'm not into sprays, and I didn't like how it seemed to get all over my bathroom when I used it. I would use it on really humid days, and it seemed to help the frizz a bit.
Recently, I discovered this site and the CG method and how to properly care for my curls and to use certain products. Now I'll squirt several shots in my hand, rub my hands together, and use it to SOTC. And that seems to work really well. It seems to help bring my curls back to life at the end of the day, too.

The bolded. I also use it before my gel after I shower. It really helps cut down on the frizz.

This is one of my favorite products, and the only Deva product I still use. I spray it on my hand, smooth it over the canopy, spray more on my hand, and scrunch up my curls. I sometimes also use it to massage the roots and get a little more volume. I don't spray it directly on my hair, because it makes it look producty and you can see the droplets of wax :b Here is what I use it for:
- Second day hair - still the best 2nd day hair product I've tried (much better than Mist-er Right, which just feels like I'm spraying water on my hair)
- Lazy days - when you don't want to spend time styling your hair with gel, but you still want it to look presentable This is probably best for 2B-3A hair that can go without being styled with gel.
- Touch ups - I carry a mini bottle in my backpack at work. Since I work in the hospital, after a day of wearing a scrub cap this is good for ruffling the roots and re-defining waves/curls.
- My stylist recommended using it under gel as an additional anti-frizz measure. I haven't seen much of a difference, but it may work for some people.
I am still looking for a replacement though, because I really really hate the smell. It is also a little bit sticky which may put off some people.

I have it... but only used on dry hair... and it's so sticky!!!
Does it work better on wet hair? What am I doing wrong? It got best of the best 2010 this year!!! LOL Maybe my coarse hair just doesn't like it?

+1. I use SIF only on dry 2nd day hair (doesn't really work on my wet hair). Spray 12-15 sprays in my hand, add a pea-sized bit of my favorite butter or a tiny squirt of oil, and scrunch into my dry morning bedhead. This is one of the very few products I've used since I went naturally curly, and still use almost every day. I also use it for dry twisting (twist and curl).

use a very small amount
I just started using devacurl products and really like them for how they make my hair look. I use the Arc Angel after I wash and condition, but needed something besides that to help with frizz and tangles. I tried the Set it Free spray while my hair was wet, before the Arc Angell and I do like it, but I am going to try and use less next time. If I don't use it at all, the hair close to my neck becomes a tangles mess and the hair by my crown gets a lot of "fly-a-ways". If I use to much, it seems to loosen the curl a little too much (never thought I would say that) and take away the volume. Bottom line: I am still learning how to use this spray, but think with a very small amount it will do the trick.
My hair is pretty much 3B-3C, but kind of fine and straight right close to my neck.

This is one of my hg products. I use it as my final step on wet hair and notice extra shine. I also like to use it to give life back back 2nd or 3rd day hair. Another way i learned is before bed at night i spray some towards my ends and its been helping to keep moisture in my hair all night

When I first tried it via the trial kit I thought it was nice but I wasn't so impressed. I sprayed it over wet hair after having finished styling. It smelled very good to me and it did contribute to shine but I wasn't going to repurchase. This week however I used it midday to refresh my curls and fight frizz and it worked great! I sprayed it into my palm, smoothed it over the crown and frizzy patches. I also smoothed it over a few curls that had gone roundabout and then scrunched up. Voila! Frizz free defined curls. I think I may repurchase it now once I'm done with my kit. Especially if I wind up liking Deva's Ultra Defining Gel which is in the mail and due to arrive tomorrow. I'm very excited. Squee!
